Melting snow and macro

Sticking my hand outside to grab some snow and watching it melt as I watch through my lens can create some pretty interesting macros.

As the snow melts and turns to ice the light will start to change how it reflects. Using a Nikon 105mm macro lets me get close but not to close to block out the light. Letting the light shimmer and reflect off the melting ice gives each little chunk or melting snow its own character.

Trying different angles and distances can help you find new ways to be creative and give you some other options when it comes time to review and edit.

I like the simplicity as it doesn't take much effort to gather up some snow in my hand and place it inside. If a set of shots doesn't seem to be catching my interest I just grab some more snow and start again.
