How is your culture when it comes to cleaning

(Edited)

Good morning everyone,
I trust you all had a blissful night’s rest. As for me, I slept like a baby and woke up feeling refreshed, strong, and ready to face the day with a clear mind and positive energy.

This morning, I decided to take some time to care for my environment, just as I make the effort to care for my body and living space daily. I believe in the power of cleanliness, not just for physical health, but for mental clarity and spiritual peace as well. There’s something deeply satisfying about being in a clean space, it uplifts the soul. So I picked up my broom and began with sweeping. I didn’t stop there, I also took down cobwebs from the corners and edges, and even uprooted some stubborn weeds growing beside the fence. I wanted my surroundings to reflect the same level of care and attention I give to myself.

You will probably agree with me when I say that cleanliness is next to godliness. It’s a saying we all grew up hearing, and over time I’ve come to see the truth in it. A clean environment reflects a disciplined and respectful mindset. It shows responsibility and appreciation for the space we occupy. I did not just wake up one day and become passionate about cleanliness. This value was instilled in me right from my days in boarding school. Back then, we were trained to wake up very early in the morning, sometimes before sunrise, to clean up the school premises thoroughly each after morning mass before breakfast and followed by class teaching.

Each student was assigned a section whether it was the boarding area, the classroom blocks, or the staff quarters. No place was left untouched. We even paid attention to facilities like sports fields, science labs, and other learning environments. It was part of our daily routine, and though we sometimes grumbled about it back then, I now appreciate what that routine taught us. It taught discipline, teamwork, and the pride that comes with creating a clean and orderly space.

That experience shaped me deeply. It became a habit I carried into adulthood. Now, no matter where I find myself, I make it a point to replicate what I learned. I don’t wait to be told to clean, and I don’t leave it for someone else to do. I see it as a personal responsibility and an opportunity to lead by example. It’s not about impressing anyone—it’s about doing the right thing, and doing it with the right attitude.

So this morning, I approached my compound cleaning with a great sense of purpose. I didn’t rush through it. I took my time, paid attention to detail, and gave it my best effort. I swept every corner thoroughly, packed up all the debris neatly, and ensured that the space looked well cared for and inviting. I did all of this not because I was told to, but because I believe in the power of a clean environment. In my own small way, I made a difference.

Let’s always remember that when we care for our environment, we are also caring for ourselves and everyone around us. A clean space brings peace, comfort, and a sense of order. So, I encourage us all to make cleanliness a habit, not just in our homes but in our communities as well. If each of us takes responsibility, the world would surely be a better, more beautiful place.

Have a wonderful day ahead.
