Diego, el Burro Trabajador / Cuento [ESP-ENG]

Diego era un burro que vivía en una granja junto con otros animales, desde pequeño vivía allí, pues con solo meses de nacido se lo dieron a la hija del dueño como regalo de graduación. Así que aquella granja era su hogar.

Su vida no era como el resto de los animales, ya que desde pequeño le tocaba levantarse bien temprano a ayudar al jefe con las labores diarias de la granja, como trasladar cosas, buscar alimento para el resto de los animales y acompañar al jefe a la ciudad a comprar las cosas de la casa.

Aunque Diego se pasaba la mayoría del tiempo con su jefe estaba lejos de ser su animal favorito. Sin embargo, eso no lo hacía perder el ánimo de levantarse todos los días a trabajar. Se esforzaba por pensar que su trabajo era muy importante para la granja y aunque la mayoría no lo valorara, era más importante servir a los demás.

Todas las noches, antes de dormir meditaba en la ayuda que le daba al jefe y todo el duro trabajo que le ahorro. Se repetía “lo importante es servir a los demás, algún día mi trabajo será recompensado”, eso lo hacía dormir feliz.

Diego no tenía amigos en la granja ya que la mayoría del tiempo estaba trabajando. Los otros animales pese a que él le buscaba el alimento no lo querían porque no era como los otros animales que solo comían y descansaban todo el día, así que Diego no era un animal normal para ellos.

Con frecuencia se burlaban de él, y decían chistes de mal gusto. Le preguntaban:

-¿De qué color es el cielo? Y ahí mismo contestaban, no sabe porque es un burro jajaja.

-¿Por qué Diego no es feliz? Porque trabaja como un burro jajaja.

-A ti te quieren solo para que trabajes, nosotros somos los favoritos del jefe que no hacemos nada. Deberías dejar de ser burro jajaja.

Tantas eran las burlas de los otros animales que un día Diego se sintió muy desanimado, se levantó sin energías a trabajar y todo el día estuvo muy triste, no rindió lo mismo que otros días, así que no trajo la misma cantidad de comida a los animales. Ese día muchos de los animales pasaron hambre en la granja y en vez de animar a Diego de nuevo, lo culparon por la falta de comida.

Esto hizo que Diego se sintiera aun peor, parece que servir a los demás no valía la pena si nadie lo valoraba. El desánimo lo hizo perder las fuerzas.

Aquel día llego su dueña de la ciudad y fue a visitar a Diego, lo trato con tanto cariño que lo hizo sentir especial de nuevo. Eso le hizo recordar las palabras que repetía cada noche antes de dormir “lo importante es servir a los demás, algún día mi trabajo será recompensado”.

Diego se sintió tan feliz por la visita de su dueña que volvió a trabajar todos los días como antes.

Meses más tarde la granja se vendió y junto con ella todos los animales de la granja, cada uno con distinto dueño. Pero Diego fue el único animal con el que el jefe se quedó, pues aquel burro había trabajado muy duro y aunque su jefe no se lo dijo antes, sabía lo valioso que era.

Al fin su trabajo fue recompensado. Los otros animales en vez de desanimarlo hubieran hecho bien en imitar el ejemplo de “Diego el Burro Trabajador”.

Diego was a donkey who lived on a farm along with other animals, he had lived there since he was a little boy, because when he was only months old he was given to the owner's daughter as a graduation present. So that farm was his home.

His life was not like the rest of the animals, since he had to get up very early to help the boss with the daily chores of the farm, such as moving things, looking for food for the rest of the animals and accompany the boss to the city to buy things for the house.

Although Diego spent most of his time with his boss, he was far from being his favorite animal. However, that didn't stop him from getting up every day to work. He tried hard to think that his work was very important to the farm and even though most people didn't value it, it was more important to serve others.

Every night, before going to sleep, he meditated on the help he gave to the boss and all the hard work he saved him. He repeated to himself "the important thing is to serve others, someday my work will be rewarded", that made him sleep happily.

Diego had no friends on the farm since most of the time he was working. The other animals did not like him because he was not like the other animals that only ate and rested all day, so Diego was not a normal animal for them.

They often made fun of him, and told jokes in bad taste. They would ask him:

-What color is the sky? And right there they would answer, he doesn't know because he is a donkey hahaha.

-Why is Diego not happy? Because he works like a donkey hahaha.

-They only want you to work, we are the boss's favorites who don't do anything. You should stop being a donkey hahaha.

One day Diego felt very discouraged, he got up without energy to work and all day he was very sad, he did not perform as well as other days, so he did not bring the same amount of food to the animals. That day many of the animals went hungry on the farm and instead of encouraging Diego again, they blamed him for the lack of food.

This made Diego feel even worse, it seems that serving others was not worth it if no one valued him. Discouragement made him lose his strength.

That day his owner arrived from the city and went to visit Diego, she treated him with so much affection that she made him feel special again. That made him remember the words he repeated every night before going to sleep "the important thing is to serve others, someday my work will be rewarded".

Diego was so happy about his owner's visit that he went back to work every day as before.

Months later the farm was sold and along with it all the farm animals, each with a different owner. But Diego was the only animal the boss kept, because that donkey had worked very hard and although his boss did not tell him before, he knew how valuable he was.

At last his work was rewarded. The other animals, instead of discouraging him, would have done well to imitate the example of "Diego the Working Donkey".
