Adventure awaits at Greenside Nursery with all the roses!
Well hello, stranger
We all get a bit annoyed during the week, be it due to work, kids, lack of sunlight or just because we are human. I've realised that when I get annoyed it's due to the fact that I haven't been doing something I love and enjoy. Don't get me wrong, I love my job, but I tend to get caught up in it. It's been almost a year since I sat down and painted... Mostly because I'm too tired over the weekends to do something that requires my brain to focus. But I still need to do something, otherwise, I end up being grumpy the following week. So in order to keep my happy personality for the week ahead of us, I forced @technicalside to take me to the nursery.
But who am I joking, he enjoys nurseries just as much as I do. I'm incredibly thankful to share my life with someone who values nature just as much as I do, perhaps even more.
So during the weekend, we made our way to our local nursery. It's the perfect time, seeing that we are in the middle of spring. Everything is blooming, the weather is perfect and you don't feel the need to stay indoors (YET)...
I took nearly 60 photos, narrowed it down tp 32 that I wanted to share... Until I realised that's still way to many. So I made collages of three to four photo's so you don't have to scroll for days.
What is an adventure without the unwanted photos? I think I'll never get use to @technicalside taking random candid photos of me. But nevertheless, it serves as proof that I did something. And yes, we are experiencing temperatures close to 30 celsius, but I will still wear my yellow cardigan...
The nursery feels like a tiny forest for me. The entrance has always been lined with bushes, shrubs and small trees. It is weren't from the shading and other objects, it would truly look like a tiny forest. The nursery is also significantly cooler than the surrounding areas. This just shows how amazing plants and trees are. We should start incorporating more natural elements around our homes.
We wondered into the green space and admired all the plants and birds around us. The first section doesn't have much colour, but as my grandmother used to say "green should be our favourite colour seeing as it's what we see most of each day". As we were making our way to the smaller plants and flowers I spotted the colourfully trees.
I was bejond thrilled when I saw the purple and orange flowers on these trees. I've only ever seen the pink ones. Maybe I've seen other colours before but just never registered it 😅. The photos does no justice to the bright orange flowers, but it is still beautiful.
We finally moved past all the green bushes and trees, and entered the blooming plant section. So naturally I abandoned my partner and went to the hunt for pretty flowers.
I have now idea what the green bean looking thing is. When it opens up it looks like a paper flower. However, in this form it looked like a snap pea/ sugar pea. I added a close up of the purple flowers. And I saw a very unique succulent. Now I'm aware that they exist, my brother has had one for a few years, but it's not something I see a lot and if I do they are wayyyy out of my budget.
When I was younger I used to call these "Hawaii flowers". If I'm not mistaken they are Hibiscus flowers. They still look like cartoon flowers to me, like something way to beautiful to exist.
After I spend my fair share of time in the blooming section, I went to find @technicalside. We made our way to the succulant section, and I was told plenty of times to "look not buy"... But I agree, I have a bunch of plants and Arum lilies and they keep me busy.
I must admit, I've had around 9 of these little "olifant vote" plants (rock succulents). And of all the ones I've gotten as presents and bought for myself... Only one has survived... But I think I figured him out, he seems to be happy being neglected 🤷♀.
I had to share all the fun accessories that we found. The pot butler seems concerned about the leave touching his leg. And I almost spend 1/4 my salary of the unicorn pot. I bought an octopus pot a few years back, I think it's time to get him a friend.
By this point I was hungry and as much as I wanted food, I was destracted by the roses. So I dragged my partner to the roses and we spend a few minutes looking at all the different colour and shapes of roses. We realised that the nursery sells a rose, that is named after our hometown.
A few photos of the roses that I wanted to share. Yes, I'm aware that the right hand corner is not a rose... But it is just as beautiful and deserved to be included in the post. They remind me of Zinnia flowers, but apparently they are not Zinnia's.
This rose was to perfect to add to a collage... The queen of the rose garden!
By now I was starving. And as much as @technicalside loves food, it took time convincing him to get something to eat. In the end we both enjoyed the peaceful time outside under the trees.
The entire time that we were there, little birds were jumping around the table. At one point there was nearly 20 of them just staring at us wanting for something to eat. We also saw a chicken roaming around looking for chips and bread crumbs.
Naturally we chose the table in the corner, away from people... But it was beautiful and quite. So no one was staring at us or listening to our weird conversations. I think people wonder about us sometimes 😂. We might be responsible adults, but we are both still kids at heart and can end up having the most random conversations.
We both ordered something small to eat. My favourite is bacon and banana toasties, and I've heard plenty of times that it is a kids meal. We settled on milkshakes since it was a warm day, and this is also the only place where I can get a lemon meringue milkshake. The funny photo was intentional, as we where both excited about food!
We enjoyed our meal and gave away some of our chips to the birds and Mr. chicken. Afterwards we took one more strole through the nursarey and made our way back to the car.
While some will say this does not count as an adventure, I believe everything counts as an adventure. Even grocery shopping can count as an adventure is you go into it with the right mind set 😅. I'm leaving you with this photo of the trees. Sometimes when life gets to much, all we have to do is look up and appreciate the natural beauty all around us. If the birds can be happy in the trees, we can be happy in the shade.
