Garden Journal Weekly 29th December 2021
I hope everyone has been having a lovely Christmas time and hopefully even a bit of downtime. I was a little worried no-one would have found time to share their gardening this week, but I needn't have been. It's been a wonderful distraction as always to go through the gardening and homesteading tags. So distracting, in fact, that I kept forgetting I was supposed to be collecting some together for this curation!
I love the creativeness of those with a passion to garden, even if they don't have ground to grow in. This week @mers shared some photos of a communal patio garden, which showcases just how clever you can get with pots and salvaged items, to create a beautiful display.
Staying with the subject of plants in pots, I rather enjoyed this simple re-potting of a bonsai from @almightymelon. It's surprising the difference that seeing this little tree move into a traditional bonsai pot makes aesthetically. It really brings the feel of nature in miniature.
I've heard mention of sacrificial plants before, but always been left to guess how to best utilise them. Now I no longer have to guess, because @ligayagardener goes into more detail on how he uses sacrificial plants and when to get rid of them.
@buckaroobaby has been talking about her riches this week and is enough to make you green with envy. I doid't know which post to choose, her one on caviar compost or her overflowing cup. Either way, it seems that it's the time for giving and nature has certainly been giving to the Buckaroo farm.
Thank you everyone for continuing to share your gardens and knowledge. The featured authors are beneficiaries of this post.

Thank you so much for featuring me. I really appreciate the interest and support.
You're welcome. I love seeing bonsai and how they are done, but don't think I have the skill for it myself, so I live vicariously through posts like yours. 😁
I will tag hivegarden from now on for sure.
I'm so happy to see the weekly journal. It a good thing to see more and more updates about gardening.
That’s awesome thanks for the compilation! Now I’m going to check them out and see what they’ve got going on!
Ooh that patio garden is right up my alley. I can't wait to set up my balcony this year as I have a bit more room out there, plus now we have the courtyard planter boxes and one of them is for me. :)
Oooh, will we be seeing a patio garden from you soon?
Well it's December in Denver, so not soon, lol. But eventually!
That's ok though, because I am still settling in after the move. I need the time to set up the balcony (it is currently a messy pile of stuff) before I start planting anyway.
Thank you for the double mention @minismallholding! I love the photo you chose. I find it fascinating to see which photos grab different readers. On that note, that photo of @mers is really a winner!
Those are certainly stunning patio gardens. Your dam pictures were pretty stunning too. It's funny how you appreciate water so much more when you've missed it for so long.
Many thanks dear for featuring the Spanish patio, appreciate it much!
Thank you for sharing. There is some great inspiration there.
You are welcome...glad it brought some ideas for the readers.
Yay, glad you like my post about the Spanish patio! I really admire their creativity and that is why I promise to do my balcony wall no matter how small space I have now, I just have to do it! I miss my former Spanish wall but that can be sorted out next season. Thanks for the lovely comment.
What a fun bunch of gardens!
thanks for sharing them, and introducing me to new gardeners
Always an absolute pleasure. 🙂
Great to be included again. Thank you.
wow that potted garden is beautiful, it looks like spain or portugal. thanks for sharing
I believe it's Spain. I'm guessing you've spent time there.
