Here in South Australia we're cooling down after a sweltering couple of days. Bushfires are always a worry when temperatures get so high, so it seems almost ironic that some of the first homesteading posts I came across discuss fire. @miztajovial had a fire go through the banana plantation due to a combination of a child's mistake and a dry season.

Then @gentleshaid raises an interesting debate on a different type of fire, the domestic cooking fire. Many homesteaders use fire wood for cooking or heating, but does it cause more harm to our environment than other cooking or heating methods?

It's lovely to see a garden update as the northern gardens go into hibernation. @lex-zaiya's cucumbers are looking promising and the blueberries too.

In the pre Christmas craziness I'd forgotten all about @paradoxtma's yardfishing challenge, so it was fun to see @elisaday7's response to that. It's actually quite surprising how much variety there is in people's approaches to this "sport".

Sadly a couple of my highlighted posts got missed for a large curation, so I'm going to give 20% beneficiaries to the authors of those ones, @elisaday7 and @lex-zaiya.

what a sad scenario to know that a banana plantation got on fire.. A huge loss. It's really dangerous when a child plays without our supervision especially that time was dry season. It's so easy for fire to burn something.
And those bluberries looking good..

A very sad loss. Hopefully a big lesson was learnt by the child.

Fires affect our nature a lot, going from intense heat to cold is quite uncomfortable, here where I live there is still a lot of heat and rain.🌼
The publications shared are very interesting and it is gratifying to read your experiences.
I feel grateful that you have taken my post into consideration for this occasion. Congratulations to everyone mentioned. A big hug.🌼

It is hard to adjust when temperatures change so suddenly. We dropped 20°C from one day to the next.

It was good to read your post. I'm glad you joined the yardfishing fun. 🙂

This is bad news, I was very sad to hear that when the banana plant garden caught fire, and I was sorry for the disaster that happened to the banana plantation.
Indeed, when the dry season arrives, we must be very careful.
