Why "Greedy" Bird?

kakaotalk_20211123_154550821.jpg

A few months ago the price of POB was high and some people complained that Mineopoly won too many contests on POB. One person even called me "the Greedy Yellow Bird". It's true that I was all over the place collecting POB, but what good was it if I had collected thousands of POB but had nothing to do with it all?

This gave me the idea for the "Greedy" Yellow Bird game. It's called the "Greedy" Yellow Bird game not because the yellow bird is greedy but because one of the greatest motivators to participate was greed. In this game a prize is given to comments that are counted at number 11, 21, 31, 41, 51, 61 and 71. The other comments don't get a prize.

The object of the game is to get others to put their comments before your so you can swipe down and get the target comment. Without some initial (edited) driving force nobody would even place a comment. The early comments can be called base comments. As base comments are built higher the winning prizes increase.

Greed combined with impatience motivates the contestant to invite other users to come and join the game so that later on in the game they can take the high prizes. The game is set up so that greed is used to reach out to others and draw them to participate and encourage others and build them up. Ultimately this motivation is so that they can win the prize.

The game is under control because of unknown variables. In some editions a user could edit a previous comment making that comment invalid so all the greedy people counting on the position of that comment would unexpectedly lose. A little bit of greed is necessary to join the game but when it comes down to it the players in the game must be free from greed enough to invite others and help them. Greed is activated and entices more and more people to call their friends. Now each time I do this contest it has the most comments for the day.

Greed plays a big role in motivation for games and participation in everything from classroom games to using a coupon to get a discount at a store. Another game that uses greed for motivation is Mr. Beast who offered 500,000 to anyone who stayed in the circle the longest. At the end of the challenge ten remained and were to be eliminated through a game of tag. This greed brought out the best in their survival instincts.

If greed completely controlled any game then nothing good could result. Every player would be trying to trick the others for the prize. It would be more like the Netflix series SQUID game. This game is actually ruled by the power of greed and fear.

Simple games like red light green light, counting marbles and Cookie game, Tug of War, counting marbles and hopscotch up the stakes to a single winner getting a huge grand prize and the other players losing their lives. Greed led contestants to lie, betray, steal and cheat others.

For some the world is a game and greed gets the better of them. Human history is plagued with a deadly greed that cannot be satisfied. Good for gold in history caused nations to invade other nations and people groups, strip their land and murder their people. Greed for money and resources in more recent history has caused environmental, social and political damage around the world.

If Greed is placed before human life it is not a game anymore but a tragedy and deadly sin. Maybe I use the word "greedy" too lightly. For anyone who wants to win the prize has to be a little bit greedy.

Greed gets its power when combined with the power of fear and death. Most people who get into finance and crypto have a danger of falling into a trap of greed. It is something that should be brought into the light. That is one of the reasons I kept the title "The Greedy Yellow Bird Game" even though it is a deadly sin.

It's really your call. If you think games motivated by greed are too dangerous then don't play the Greedy Yellow Bird Game but like many you may just enjoy the rush and the feeling of winning. Although there is some greed involved there is a great joy in the rush of winning. Really no one loses and although motivated by greed, each one who participates finds new virtues of humor helping others and at the same time their brain is tested to new limits. Although originally initiated by greed the true driving force behind the "Greedy" Yellow Bird game is wit and challenge and fun. But I don't think they would be there without some kind of financial reward.

My username "Mineopoly" came from my desire to mine all the altcoins like a monopoly game. As I started writing and blogging I found a lot more than some cryptos. I found that I was really mining for a heart of gold. I found that I like to tell stories. I like to draw pictures and I like to tell jokes to friends. My first motivation for writing was fear and greed but it was followed by a sincere desire to find a heart of gold... In my case to find out who I am and where I come from and where I am going.

I love the sincerity of Neil Young as he tries to find his harmonica and sing this "new" song to an audience much larger than he could ever imagine. I hope his message can speak to you. Every time I hear this song it speaks to me. I have tons of work and a large speaking session to prepare for this week but I kept the Greedy Bird game alive not inspired by greed but inspired by the excitement I see in those interacting. They are not greedy snobs but they are having a minute of fun. They each come from different backgrounds and countries. They have tons of problems but for a few minutes when they play the Greedy Bird game their problems are put on the shelf. In the end they are all winners. Maybe they were inspired by greed at first but they walked away with some virtures and more importantly a smile.

You're right, at first all I wanted was to win some POB but after my first participation I realized there was more than just POB prize, this game challenge the creative side of me and the fun one derive from yellow greedy bird game is just amazing.

I think we should give you the name "king of POB interaction". You sure knows how to get in our head and bring out the humor in us.
Thank you!

Hi @funshee,

You are mastering my game quickly. It's fun for me to interact and we have a small community built on the game. I will try to think of a simple challenge to add each time to make it more interesting.

"King of interaction" is too much... Maybe POB MC

Wow this has been a rather interesting and stimulating read as it went from another comment and found and clicked through to figure out what this greedy yellow bird thing was. Lol I love your use of satire to catch attention, but could you have been rewarded by such metrics and those are the areas you leaned towards most?

I'm not saying this out of judgment, but just as a critical question to ask yourself. So a little about me is I've been a card gamer/trader a large entirety of my life and I really wanted to build something special for the community and 2 times now I've realized I busted my butt off to build something for a community who didn't even value you, but instead took for granted my nurture.

It didn't start there although just like the old show cheers which centered around a bar where everyone knew your name and you were welcomed, that was always my long term goal for a gaming/card store, but at first I was a rather relentless trader/gamer who would stop at nothing to do countless of trades and amassed a physical card collection of 1million cards by traveling the nation. I'm not exactly sure when I had the epiphany of that if I really loved the card community why do I have so many cards and lead me to think about tcgplayer's growth metrics as well and now they hold a lion share of the card supplies and people don't even realize or connect such dots.

I think within the gaming system there is a huge flaw in that it teaches us there is a winner and a loser and in all honesty who really likes losing. Especially if they have a competitive nature so I think within that is just a war of egos of sorts that I realized I wanted out of this particular rat race. I'm not saying good outcomes can't come out from original greed metrics, but I'm curious to see your response to all of this. (Quite honestly no matter what you say it may be hard for me to trust you just to be completely honest, but that isn't moreso you but many many many past experiences that lead me to question a lot of people and "intentions")

This is not so much for you or directed at you, but this writing of yours just made me think in a really indepth way and I'm curious what would transpire from this conversation if anything at all.

Hello @infinitytcg,

I'm glad you started thinking in depth,

Looking back at the writing here I see I have been struggling inside about motivating factor. There is no use doing something good if our original motive was bad. In the same way it is no use to continue something if it fell so far from its original purpose.

Your comment has given me some time to think about the word "intentions".

I think quite deeply most of the time lol I wish at times I can just shut it off, but it is what it is. On a small part I would have to disagree with "There is no use doing something good if our original motive was bad" I think I'll be a great example of this one day but time will just have to play itself out as I discover this ecosystem first.

For me I think its about historical context was the action good for the overall world a net positive or net negative. I think for a few individuals I'll end up being their worst nightmares, but to the greater mass I'm going to empower a lot of change, capabilities, and far more.

Life is a series of trials and errors. Yeah not saying you do, but I feel that people often lead with the thought and ideals of "good intentions" but in reality it was a self centered basis of that word instead of looking at it from their audiences viewpoint.

I see what you mean. On the big picture our "bad" motives were used for a good purpose but on an individual level I think it would be better to avoid going into this situation intentionally.

Some things in life can't be avoided, but to figure out how to make the best of what you have. Well on a personal level I think many people are disillusioned with reality and often times just settle for complacency, but that is why I don't think of things as simply good or bad as most people use a basic frame of reference to comprehend.

I mean many people call others friends, but even some of the people that know me best and we've spent dozens of hours having in depth conversations I refer to as an acquaintance. I mean different people just choose different words and metrics, but for me I rather use my actions. I probably treat most of my "acquaintances" better than most their "friends" would

I think as individuals most people just like to simplify things to reduce conflicts or discomfort, but just like through working out muscles are built through the tear downs, I feel the same way as of that of personal development. A lot of people do "good" for vanity reasons not often times apparent (not referring to you but just a generalization). Lol its funny I even have to put that in parenthesis but I feel sometimes people take things to effect them on a personal level, but I think that says more about them.

I think you get it. I wouldn't have guess a card trader what have put that much thought into it. I have to go about my day's responsibilities. It was interesting to read your comments. I suppose a majority of us here are human and that means a lot !LOL

I love your name @mineopoly ...you've also succeeded in mining our hearts. But I'm wondering what you'll mine next, lol.

I think we're in this platform out of greed, good greed bad greed, all is greed any way you look at it. But then it led us to meet amazing people like @samsmith1971(sorry I keep mentioning you,😏), @funshee , @vikbuddy @merit.ahama @ijohnsen , @dreemsteem and you too.

Greed can be a driving force to unlock potentials we never knew existed. Besides that you didn't stack up your winnings away out of greed but decided to share with others through a fun game. It's quite nice.. having fun and still winning prizes, if only life was that easy.

Wonderful initiative bro 💪❤️

In the end I question myself on this one. The ends really don't justify the means. Every step of the way and every action we make really matters. On a blog article I can go back and edit a line, but I cannot edit my relationships.

@mineopoly's heart isn't digital unless you're speaking of his genetic coding. It is...digital? Jesus Christo.

Hi @chincoculbert,

When I look deeper into greed there is nothing good there. I kind of wish I never entered the POB-WOTW challenge this last round. It is a frustrating challenge. None of those deadly sins did any good for anyone but there is something deeper a desire that needs to be satisfied. Those sins are just liars that tell you it is something that could be met and satisfied when it actually can't.

I thought I was done mining my heart but I have a lot more to go. It was fun to collect POB and even more fun to give away POB delegations. The best way to get rid of greed is to give away what we really don't need.

! "GREETY YELLOW BIRD GAME" !
For me your greedy game is simply fun and, very important too, it's about getting in touch with new people.
The "YELLOW BIRDS MEET N GREET GAME" :-) because while staying with the game, you give and get a lot of answers to the others, not only once but several times with the same guys you get to know there, learning something about those people all around the world :-) i !LUV it :-)

I !luv your reply and I think that is the attitude of the whole community @beeber,

They are great people who like to play. It's a fun game. Greed may or may not have a role in the initial step of participating but that is not the motivation to play. I want to get rid of the word "Greed" from the title of the game. I'm glad I wrote the article because it brings up an important aspect of interacting with others. It also gave me the opportunity to see what a lame title it is for a game. That's why people kept calling it POB SQUID... Your name is better.

The Greeting Game!!

Sounds beautiful.

To be completely honest I never liked the name with greed in it.

Without greed as the driving force nobody would even place a comment

I sure hope this isn't the case and if it is I'd rather not participate.

Please remove any delegations you've given me. Thank you.

I'm looking back at this article now from the point of view of the community who participated in the 8 contests with a lot of fun.

These kinds of contests are what gave me the motivation to post something and participate in the community over the years. I participated because it was fun and an experiment in idealism. When I won several times then someone called me "greedy yellow bird". I wanted to do something to give back to others to show them I'm not greedy. So I made this "Greedy Yellow Bird" game. I should have considered the weight of the word greed.

Greed is "an intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth, power, or food". That desire is part of the reason collecting rewards is addictive. I don't want greed to play a factor in my interactions online or offline anymore.

Without greed as the driving force nobody would even place a comment

I can see how this statement comes as a total insult to those who participated. It's not just a matter of word usage. I'm sorry I used this analogy at all. All of the contestants have showed themselves to be a great sport. I only wish I could offer more. When I started blogging Aggroed called himself Santaggroed and offered 10 Hive for anyone who interacted with palnet. Without that 10 Hive I couldn't even start my account. It's these people that bring life into the blockchain... not a game or a delegation.

You can look at Beeber's comment. She gave some good suggestions for improvement.

I'll tell you truth though @buffalobison... without you there is no game here.

Maybe the best for all of us is to take a break for a while.

Yes. This image is 100% my own image. The picture was taken on a boat with my camera. The coins were added through an art program on my cell phone^^

The article gives me a headache and I'm not sure what to think anymore. I see I was greedy at times but those times gave birth to creations that were good. I think the world uses greed as a motivator for many things and I would rather not.

I don't think we can avoid greed. I feel that greed and envy are driving factors towards improvement in society, but it can be taken to extremes.

I see the same thing in my classroom. Kids are super competitive. I don't even offer a prize and they are greedy for attention or recognition or just to win. I don't like it but without that motivator the kids would be more interested in what was on the lunch menu than what they are learning. The use of greed definitely needs professional supervision. Maybe I willl change my contest to "Generous Yellow Bird Challenge".

Perhaps "Professionally Monitored Greedy Yellow Bird Challenged"? Anyone capable of feeling or detecting greed would qualify to be a monitor. Of course, those people that can't would have to be monitored too.

Just a little greed can be a driving force to achieving something big.

This is my first time hearing of the greedy yellow bird game. Is it a weekly contest or what?

It has been bi-weekly and my friend buffalo has been a star player but her intentions had nothing to do with greed. She has been a good friend online to many and wanted to see us all share and grow.

Hello to you,

I hope you don't mind a longer comment.

I think it can be misunderstood if, in the case of the seven deadly sins, the terminology is watered down and framed in such a way that they become helpers without finding their way there at a moderate pace. And to use philosophical or even spiritual aids to do so.

The definitions help to see the difference. Greed, when connoted positively, can be described simply as "wanting to have something", but it is precisely the extreme form of wanting to have. Greed is, so to speak, the contrast to less strong forms of desire, which are then no longer described as greedy, but perhaps as goal-oriented. You can also let a desire go if it is not characterised by greed. How easily one can let go of a desire then describes the degree of maturity of a person. To use a conceptualisation in a field where there is no agreement on a philosophical or religious form of understanding is marked by conflict. Which does not have to be a bad thing per se, because in a conflict lies an opportunity for clarification. But it can also be the case that one person tries to impose his definition on another by all means, and the very attempt of the other to offer a less final view is itself perceived as sinful.

Terms can be as annoying and confrontational as they are helpful and clarifying. I find it helpful to apply the concept of the four-values-square, in which I summarise a feeling that is difficult for me personally in a term and then expand it towards three other sides in order to find a suitable direction of development for me.

An example: I choose tension/stress as a difficulty. The less exaggerated form is the simple "doing", the state of natural tension, such as when running, compared to the natural state of relaxation, such as when sleeping (resting).

By doing this, I have identified what I call a positive quality by cutting back on the exaggeration and looking at what actually corresponds to the exaggerated state in its original form.

So here I have determined the concept of "creative energy". Now I consider the positive sister quality. As already indicated here, this is "resting".
Then I place both next to each other in a horizontal way; with space in between. There is a positive field between creative energy and resting, there is a balance between the two. So if I go down vertically from both terms and recognise the single term in its exaggeration, with the word "creative energy" I see the "restless doing" (the urge to always have to do something, not really being able to rest even when I am already lying in bed, etc.). So I end up with the negative quality of "restlessness" ( compulsive creating). The "evil" sister of the constantly active is then easy to identify. One goes back up to the concept of resting and finds its exaggeration. That would be complete slackness, total listlessness or inertia.

Now we have also identified the negative field of tension: Here restlessness and inertia look at each other.
Everyone knows this, don't they? After a very stressful day full of nervous activity and continuous performance, you collapse in the evening and don't want to see anything more of the world. (This can also last for weeks, months and years, people are tough, sometimes for a whole lifetime until having a heart attack, for example).

I could write a lot more, but leave it at that. I find it remarkable how you have reflected on the reactions in the comments and scrutinised your formulations to the extent that you mention the explosiveness in them. I found it very interesting and welcome the topic as a whole, although on the other hand I think I also recognise the danger of counter-productivity.

Greetings to you.

Hello,

It seems that you write in pictures. I can see the picture. It is a ying yang or something similar to the second law of thermodynamics. The entropy of the universe is decreasing. If there is a negative on one side there is a positive on the other.

Basically I get it, but there is a lot I am unsure of. I overstated my self in this post and the word "greed" is still too heavy a word when it crosses some people's minds. An excessive desire for more beyond what you need. By that definition some greed can be seen in almost all human beings.

That's right, I had a picture in my head. Like this:

image.png

Now you could also design this graphic as a circle and give it dimensions by putting several layers on top of each other and thinking connections, like by means of a spiral. All the way to the shape of a donut. From this, you can see the complexity of properties and their carriers. Yes, it is similar to the Yin Yang concept, but with added dimension. Whether it represents entropy on the wane, I don't know. In this article I have presented the method of the four-value square.

I agree. "Greed" is a finalised term in understanding. The final is contained in the word "de-finition". If one is too quick to give the term "greed" a positive connotation, it can be understood as a provocation. To go the long way of understanding and relativising, it seems necessary to make use of philosophical or spiritual aids (sources) to take the readers along. The recipient of the statement can only agree when he or she goes along this path. Where he feels early resistance, he will not be able to see anything positive in the interpretation.

Hahaha... Thank you so much for the explanation. This is so true. The virtue of trusting others intertwined with dependacy and self trust with self exaltation. The connections are drawn out well. I have seen examples in life. It takes one to know the other. Perhaps that's why Genesis calls it the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. We know one and the recognize the other even more clearly.

I enjoyed the diagram and usually learn better with pictures. That's how I got through molecular biology and immunology. I memorized the pictures. I didn't learn much compared to genetics or p-chem but such beautiful pictures.
