Journey of Blind Submission

Proof of Blind

This may be the best solution for Hive users starting out. Some on Hive write good original content but just aren't being recognized. They miss out on big rewards and come off with just a few cents on their posts every day.

Many of these writers become discouraged and think it is impossible to make any money on the Hive blockchain. This was my case when I started out. Most of my posts got only a few cents. I felt like I was posting into outer space. I'm glad I didn't give up then. Because today I found a community alive with support.

For new authors I recommend @proofofblind and @blind.submit as a place to start and build an audience and get some rewards.

The Test

I tested three similar posts over a course of time on my blog. Each holiday season I like to make a post about Korean culture. I think holidays and the way that people celebrate holidays signifies what a culture considers to be important.

A year ago I wrote an article about Parent's Day in Korea and how this holiday differed from Mother's Day and Father's Day in the United states. This post was voted at 0.88 Hive.

An article I wrote about taking the train to my hometown two weeks ago was voted at 1.29 Hive.

I wrote a similar article about the things we did in the home town comparing Korean Chuseok and American Thanksgiving. This post was voted at 5.59 Hive.

Writers in Proof of Blind keep 85% of the post earnings. This is more than I made from the earnings of the other posts I wrote about Korean holidays. So it was not a waste of time to post in proof of blind. If I had seen something like this two years ago I definitely would have posted every day in proof of blind. I really recommend posting at least once in proof of blind if you are new to Hive.

You can find the instructions about how to submit a post to proof of blind here. I think it is a great project and I'd like to see more writers when I drop in at https://www.proofofbrain.io/@proofofblind to curate. I noticed that all the posts on proof of blind got some kind of comments. If nothing else it is a good way to meet people in the community. The post was also voted for more than 40 POB.

Blind Submission

My submission for Proof of Blind began here on the blind submit request post. It all began with a comment. I entered the comment and then edited that comment. I learned that I should edit the comment with the words "Ready for Review". My whole blog entry was edited over with just those three words: "Ready for Review".

Here I was reminded to have made a statement in the article like this : "I affirm that all images that do not have an 'Image Source' link after them are my own original work and that I own the rights to publish them." After I added the comment the article was published that day.

Hive Block Explorer

I didn't know how it was possible that anyone could find my article in an edited comment. Then I looked through Hive Block Explorer at https://www.hiveblockexplorer.com/ by @penguinpablo. It was easy to search @blind.submit and find the original comment that existed before I edited the comment. There was all my article and the markdown that was used to create the article. All anyone needed to do to publish the article was to copy and paste the content of the comment from the blockchain.

Every single record of the block chain is recorded as a block transaction including comments and editing and posting. This record is maintained in a block of code. Anyone can go back and find this information. It is an immutable chain containing the interactions of our social network the Hive.

You can search any transaction or user on Hive and find the content of the block chain. Here I found my comment complete and ready to be published as a post.

Take home lessons

I will use this Hive Block Explorer some more in the future to make some hints for the Greedy Yellow Bird Game and then edit those hints away. Anyone who has the brains to check the Hive Block Explorer will catch the hints and win the game^^ It's only fair.

In conclusion,

I recommend trying @blind.submit if you are producing good original content and are not being recognized. Keep posting on your own blog and every once and a while send Blind Submit something to keep them busy^^

Did you know that Dewey Bunnell from the band "America" was actually born in Yorkshire, England?

It does work. I tried it myself when you suggested this to me. Thanks for running this @proofofblind.

Be sure to read carefully as there a good amount of rules to keep the content quality high.

Thanks for more of the in depth working of the blockchain @mineopoly. This is very helpful to me and I'm sure others.

I was glad to see your entry @buffalobison,

I'd like the program to continue as it is hard for new writers to start out here.

I submitted another one today. Let's get the word out to the new people. I know all about how difficult it can be for newcomers.

These are the initiatives that make the big difference. Posting into the void is the term I often think of when you start out on any new platform. I've been lucky and have run into very helpful people like yourself and countless others.

The people on the platform make it or break it in my opinion. I hope everyone finds at least a single person they can interact with and others will soon notice. People are very friendly and welcoming here.

Great @buffalobison. I wonder if you attached some kind of picture this time?

Lots of pictures this time. Finding them and adding them took almost as long to write the article.

Do you use any specific type of markdown editor or do you format it in the frontend of your preferred posting frontend?

You can add pictures as much as you want as long as you properly source them and for original pictures add the statement in your article that these are your original pictures and you have the commercial right to use them (or something like that. I can't remember the exact words.)

I suppose you can write on any markdown editor you want and also post the comment on any front end. Just remember to edit the comment. I look forward to reading yours.

I've been following Proof of Blind and the Gradnium student project and curating both. I plan to give Proof of Blind a whirl in the near future. Just been crazy busy with month-end at work this past week and had my WOTW challenge round article to write. Should be a bit more freed up this next week so I'll look to give it a go ;-) where's your WOTW article @mineopoly? I've been looking forward to it 😊💗

Awesome @samsmith1971,

I hope in time the project will pick up in popularity. I somehow missed the Gradnium student project.

Just been crazy busy with month-end at work this past week and had my WOTW challenge round article to write.

Everyone around me keeps getting sick for different reasons. Their illnesses are various like a broken ankle, back pains, reflux, corona, another is unexplained (personal). Well this all just makes my load heavier to carry. I'm happy to help them but I'm tired at the end of each day and not a lot of creative juices flowing. Tomorrow I have the day off and will sit down and write what is in my head. I do have a story.^^ I give the wotw week a lot of attention and check it. Right now I have nothing but a story in my head. I probably won't make any post today and spend some time to write the story down so I can proofread it tomorrow. I will read your entry now.

My VP is low so excuse the low upvote on the comments ;-) You can find @trostparadox 's Gradnium project here. Essentially his students have to submit a reflection weekly on the work they are covering, as well as a question post based on what they are studying and then each have to answer one of the other students questions too. I read a selection of them each week, upvote and comment. I've even started following a couple too. I find it intellectually stimulating and a good learning experience for all concerned. This is the first semester @trostparadox has got them all to do it on the Hive 💗You an scroll down to his intro post to find out more about it. Sorry to hear that those near and dear to you are struggling with life at the moment. They are lucky to have you 🙏All the best with your WOTW post. A story...yay...I am even more excited now🙌

@trostparadox is good example for me to learn from in getting students engaged. I will check that out. Don't worry about anything. Just take care of those beautiful kids.

At a glance Gradnium seems to be connected to the Hive blockchain. Pretty cool.

That it is :-) He had them open accounts on the Hive and he upvotes their class work so that they can earn as they learn. They also get the benefit of engagement with the community. Very very cool teacher. Very progressive.

Much of an eye opener @mineopoly..I didn't have any idea how the Proof of Blind actually worked. I'll be willing to test it now.
Thanks
