Are Lazy people smart?

I have two boys and there is a big range in their IQ. Boy A is high and the Boy B is low. Who do you think seems to be the most lazy? Boy A always says that he will do something but does not always do it. When it comes to taking notes in class he would rather just listen and when it comes to studying he just skims through the book.

Boy B takes things a lot more seriously. He writes down everything he hears. He underlines the sentences and circles parts in different colors. As soon as he gets home he does his homework and he doesn't stop until it is finished. Boy A is already playing and listening to music but boy B is going over each concept again and again.

Maybe Boy A is not lazy but it seems like it to me. Perhaps this laziness of individuals has brought about invention and smart people have found ways to become even more lazy. Today there are apps for getting food right at your door or for sharing a ride that shows up at the time and place you need it. There are millions of inventions made to suit the needs of lazy people.

I wondered if there is any scientific explanation for this. I found something written in the Journal of Health Psychology:

https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/1359105314565827?journalCode=hpqa

This is a study of the correlation of physical inactivity and intelligence. Here the premise is that that those who are lazy spend more time inactive and more time thinking so are considered more intelligent. On the other hand those who are more physical become bored easily and need to be preoccupied to escape their thoughts.

The research was done in Florida and I basically think the article is crap. Highly intelligent people can thin even while being physically active. Also the neurotransmitters excreted while exercising increases thought and creativity. Still it is hard to answer deep questions on Analytic geometry while panting for breath after a run.

Not all smart people are lazy and not all lazy people are smart. That's about all there is too it. People learn in different ways. There are exceptionally "lazy" people with great ideas for society. They are stereotyped as overweight scientists eating a hamburger and drinking a cola while hacking the universe. But ideas come from all kinds of people and some people who seem to be lazy are actually quite productive people.

I could use some example like Mark Zuckerberg or Elon Musk, but I want to look at someone closer to home like @roundbeargames. It seems that he stays at home all the time in his pajamas and orders chicken and bear whenever he feels hungry but he is a genius who works hard. He produces videos almost every day. He codes and teachers others to code. He works with code for 3D gaming that I could only dream of. These people may seem lazy but actually they are doing a huge amount of work while moving only a few inches. They are geniuses.

The important thing is not to make laziness the goal or the master. If laziness is above all else then sloth sets in and you become like the worker for the DMV.

This continued slothness can lead to irresponsibility and the punchlines of many jokes including Homer Simpson so I guess we should be lazy enough just until we can get some good ideas and then work hard to get them done.

Have a great weekend^^

Is like this post is directed at me, while I was in school I had a good friend who will come to my house after lecture hours for me to explained some maths work for her even after she had spent an hour staying behind lectures to studied further and will still burn the night studing and me five minutes after lecture and back to my house to shower, eat, take a nap, listen to music and then study for two to three hours maximum and am done till tomorrow again. I do get A's and some B's in my courses and my friend will still end up with few B's plenty C's and some F sometimes.

Am I lazy? I don't think so, I'm more creative and productive when am not too serious, spending lots of time studying bored me and I will ended up not learning much.

I think as an individuals, different things works for different people, one just has to discovers themselves and stick with what works for one.

And one thing about me is I can't seems to rest when ever I needed to get things done and untill my brain tells me to put all my effort in something and do it, I might just be lazing around.

Very informative post, thank you) I think laziness is a permanent quality of every person (we are always looking for the path of least resistance), but it manifests itself at different times and to different degrees, in each person in his own way. Therefore, the connection between laziness and intelligence seems to me very relative..

What's the difference between a taxidermist and a tax collector?
A taxidermist takes only your skin.

The research seems just to support one person's opinion. I dont like IQ tests. For people with high scores they think they are smart and miss opportunities. For people with low scores they feel like they are inept and have a tendency to think they can't do it. However it is heart moving to see one person do their best in their own situation. !LUV

Mark Zuckerberg or Elon Musk are both mind controlled puppets who are barely human!

I was voted laziest in my senior year in high school. I wear it as a badge of honor. 😁 However, I never thought of myself as lazy. I always just looked at where I could get the most while putting in the least effort!

Others perceive one as lazy when the person is actually just concentrating on what makes them tick !LOL

The most wealthy people in the world today are for sure the laziest. They look for hard workers to do their works for them while they enjoy the benefits

Maybe you are right about many and this smarts that the whole world suffers. Although we have made a few advancements human beings have been in this cycle too long.

My middle school son has a lot of questions about the world I really can't answer except looking back in history in hind sight a little love and forgivess might have been a lot more powerful than any weapon.
