Hive Blockchain Merch Now Available on Redbubble
I recently opened a Print On Demand Shop through the online company Redbubble.
What redbubble basically does, is let artists come up with designs, curve and change the designs to fit on different mediums such as t-shirts, mugs, stickers, shower curtains and more.
Each design lets you print on 78 different items.
It is quite impressive to come up with a design, and then be able to see it on leggings, on models, on a jigsaw puzzle, and even greeting cards.
The First Designs I uploaded were pride month designs.
Simple pride month designs which were cleverly translated into Nahuatl, and turned into an Indigenous Pride Month Collection
Once I got those designs out of my mind, I decided to create something for the audience who I already know I have
The Hive Audience of course.
I created a silly baby booking graphic and called it "Hodl Just Like a Baby"
Then I got a happy looking stick figure guy, and made him look like he was happy to be looking at the Hive Logo
Then I played with the "at home with Hive" saying and came up with this:
Finally, I got the regular ole' Hive Logo and turned it into a mini skirt print
I have been having fun with the designs
But also I am aware of how redbubble is just a monster of a company who has figured out how to do great SEO so that something gets found.
Redbubble wants you of course to advertise your designs on social media, but they are so far up with the search engines, that if you "just" tag your merchandise correctly, anyone who is looking for it will find you.
Seems like a good deal.
Let's see if it works.
So far the analytics have been pretty horrible, with just six individual views on my wares.
Still, its only been up for a few days.

I really love that skirts with the Hive logo camouflage. We need this kind of initiative to be widespread in the retail market to cause a chain reaction in marketing.
Yes. It was fun playing with the logo.
I made another one I'm just uploading. A baby with a hive head on it... it made my kids laugh.
Really cool designs, @metzli. Keep them coming.

I've seen services like Redbubble and Cafe Press which let you use your own designs on items ranging from t-shirts to coffee mugs. There's one thing I'm not sure of: who owns the copyright to your designs if you use those platforms? Do you still own the copyright, or did the company take control of the copyright as a condition for using their service?
From what I understand, your designs are still your designs. However, copyright violations, and "content thieves" are very common on there.
The designs I have uploaded have been simple designs made on Canva Pro with my own little twist to them.
My husband however, was very interested in uploading his Dad's original art to those platforms and I advised against it.
I've wanted to set up a store on and off for years, but I held off due to legal considerations. I don't want to end up in a situation like what Bruce Willis had with iTunes music library or what many people on Amazon encounter with their Kindle-based books disappearing from their readers at the whim of Amazon.
As for what your husband wanted to do with his father's original art, I think you made the right call. At best, more research has to be done to find a platform willing to keep a low profile and let the creator retain ownership of all related designs and legal rights associated with them.
This could be yet another niche Hive could fulfill; I don't know how practical it would be for the developers and investors, but it seems good in theory.
