Market Friday - Last Visit To The Fresh Market Before Leaving Andalusia
I haven´t been here in a while and today I finally made it to write this post. This had been my last #MarketFriday before we left Andalusia. I was striding the path to each of the stalls, there were many tourists visiting this week as it has become mild with the temperatures surging at 22°C, a summer like weather.
I saw familiar faces of the dealers, some come from Senegal, Morocco and Algeria selling their goods such as leather bags, belts and the others sell fancy jewelries and the other sell clothing and accessories.
Located at the Avendída de Andalucia , the Rastro as what the locals call the fresh market is located beside this hotel, the beach is not far away.... where at the end of the playground and exercise tools comes the Ferrara Beach which is just a few yards away from the market.
The market is a mixture of different cultures, both locals and dealers from Africa and tourists coming from various parts of Europe enjoy a chit-chat about daily life. Visiting the Rastro has already become part of their way of life of each retiree who stays here during winter time.
You can get freshly picked veggies and fruits either being sold by the farmer himself and some coming from middlemen.
I got myself a kilo of the flat green beans and cook them the same day. Stir-fried , very crispy and delish!
There are also dealers selling clothing and other apparels.
Plenty of fancy fashion jewelries to choose from.
Cloth or bedspread in abundance, I got one below made in India. I love the design, color fits the curtain I am about to sew for the bedroom. I paid 10 euros for the Indian cloth which I can use as bedspread, its cotton used is thicker.
Most African dealers sell leather goods and although the designs were not so modern, I am sure they were made to last long.
The Spices
The one stall I would like to pass-by everytime I went to this market is to look for various spices. I bought cumin powder and they are not so expensive. For a bottle of about 100 grams, I paid 2.50 Euros.
The last item I bought is a shawl below for my neighbor who takes care of our mails. I paid around 8 Euros and I just I hope she will like it.
Love the strawberries, big and look fresh from the farm.
Yeah, the farm here would be in Almeria where all those gigantic area full of tents and green houses..They grow the best strawberries. But most local farmers here have their own grow tents with srawberries too.
Their market looks so clean and neat. Plenty of flower plants on display, they are so lovely. The bedspread looks sturdy.
Yeah, the market place is new not even a year old... so everything is clean
Super nice naman diyan ate andaming pwedeng bilhin. Sarap din mamasyal at mamili diyan 😍
Yeah, kahit ano puede.... so I got a few things yung mga dadalhin for my neigbor.
What a beautiful marketday. I enjoyed roaming with you dear! Thank you for sharing
Yep, I am glad you lkike the tour! Thanks.
I love those cloth or bedspread and leather bags 😍 Tita @mers ang ganda naman mamili po dyan & the place was very clean.
Yep, you can always ask for a lower price and see if the dealer goes for your price. If yes, you get it at yout price
whoah!, the fresh veggies and fruits makes the market friday so exciting and since it's the last day of your stay in Spain hooe yoy have a safe flight to Vienna.
Hive on👍
Thanks my friend... It was a turbulent process, we almost missed the connecting flight. But I will discuss it in another post.
Thanks God you're back at the home base and now enjoying the weather.
Yeah, no more gusty winds! Thanks!
I enjoyed the market day ate..looks Iam the one buying those goods and fresh fruits...
Hahaha.... that´s the reason why @dswigle set up the community, so wecan see the different market cultures. Thanks for dropping-by.
This is absolutely wonderful! So much to be had in this one market. You are already leaving Andalusia? Nooooo. It is such a beautiful part of Europe, although I am sure you are ready to go home and enjoy your life there. I did like the shawl. I am sure your neighbor is going to love it. I know it is probably warm and cozy to wear and it looks nice too.
What large strawberries they have! Pardon my excitement, our farmer's markets are not quite open yet! :) A few in tents and temporary structures, but, not anything amazing. I really liked the fabric and I agree with you that the Indian fabric is much more durable, but, there were a couple hanging that had a beautiful pattern.
Le sigh. I love fabric!
The purses, I am with you on that. They may not be top-notch designers, but, they don't carry that price either. The one thing I am really careful about when buying leather from the market as some are not tanned as well as others. But, you can usually tell when you handle them.
I hope you grabbed more spices and the chili peppers! Flowers for on your way home! Safe travels! Thank you for thinking of me!

Hi Denise! Wow such a wonderful reply, thank you so much... I know you are very busy dear but you still manage to write back anyway you can and it´s so lovely to hear from you my friend. After 22 months of not being in Andalusia, we came to make repairs in these 4 months...yep, you won´t believe what those little birds have done building nests in the gutter and ruined the ceiling of the two bedrooms.
Have a wonderful Wednesday ahead. Hugs and kisses to you amiga! Chat with you again later.
