[ESP-ENG] Arte en 3D - El mural ecológico de tapas plásticas de la Isla de Margarita. Te cuento mi experiencia como voluntaria.

Es un gusto saludar a esta bonita comunidad. Hoy comparto mi experiencia como voluntaria en el mural hecho con tapas plásticas en la Isla de Margarita- Venezuela, en plena Avenida 4 de mayo, justo al frente de la panadería del mismo nombre en la ciudad de Porlamar.

El creador de este mural es Oscar Olivares, un joven artista de 26 años, que de solo mirarlo, te das cuenta que lo que hace es su verdadera pasión, era increíble ver como realizaba con total destreza los dibujos a gran escala y como colocando las tapas por colores iba transformando ese mural gris en una verdadera obra de arte. Oscar ha recorrido varias ciudades de Venezuela y otras partes del mundo como Arabia Saudita y México, donde ha sido reconocido por esta expresión artistica en 3D, en la cual se le da utilidad al plástico que desechamos y que contamina el medio ambiente.

It is a pleasure to greet this beautiful community. Today I share my experience as a volunteer in the mural made with plastic lids in Margarita Island, Venezuela, in the middle of Avenida 4 de Mayo, right in front of the bakery of the same name in the city of Porlamar.

The creator of this mural is Oscar Olivares, a young 26 year old artist, that just by looking at him, you realize that what he does is his true passion, it was incredible to see how he made with total skill the large scale drawings and how placing the lids by colors he was transforming this gray mural into a true work of art. Oscar has traveled to several cities in Venezuela and other parts of the world such as Saudi Arabia and Mexico, where he has been recognized for this artistic expression in 3D, which gives utility to the plastic that we discard and that pollutes the environment.

Empresas, estudiantes de escuelas, academias, de la Universidad de Oriente (UDO), niños jóvenes, adultos y familias enteras se activaron como voluntarios junto al personal de la Alcaldía del municipio Mariño para recolectar las tapas y trabajar en esta obra que inició el primero de febrero y culminó el cinco de marzo de presente año, donde se re-utilizaron más de 190.000 tapas plásticas entre rojas, doradas, transparentes, azules, naranjas, blancas, negras, verdes y amarillas de diversos productos como refrescos, jugos, lavaplatos, suavizantes de ropa, botellones de agua, licores y del conocido Chimó El Tigrito; una persona donó la mayor parte de tapas amarillas de esta empresa. Estas tapas eran pegadas con una mezcla de cemento y pego sobre 2 grandes paredes, una a cada lado de un gran estacionamiento.Todo el mural mide aproximamente 60 metros de ancho X 4 metros de alto.

Companies, students from schools, academies, the Universidad de Oriente (UDO), young children, adults and entire families became active as volunteers along with the staff of the Mayor's Office of the Municipality of Mariño to collect the caps and work on this project that began on February 1 and ended on March 5 of this year, where more than 190,000 plastic caps were reused. More than 190,000 red, gold, transparent, blue, orange, white, black, green and yellow plastic caps from various products such as soft drinks, juices, dishwashers, softeners, water bottles, liquors and from the well-known Chimó El Tigrito; one person donated most of the yellow caps from this company. These caps were glued with a mixture of cement and glue on two large walls, one on each side of a large parking lot located in front of the well-known 4 de Mayo bakery. The entire mural is approximately 60 meters wide and 4 meters high.

Mi hijo Gabriel y yo participamos dos semanas seguidas , Gabriel todo el día y yo en las tardes después de salir del trabajo y los fines de semana. Gabriel hizo equipo con otros muchachos de su edad, ellos más hábiles se montaban en los andamios para pegar las tapas más que todo en la parte de arriba, la parte media y de abajo la dejaban para los niños y el resto de las personas. El mural está muy cerca de dónde vivimos, lo que nos permitió colaborar todos esos días. La jornada empezaba entre las 08:30 - 09:00 a.m y terminaba a las 05:00 de la tarde.

My son Gabriel and I participated two weeks in a row, Gabriel all day and me in the afternoons after work and on weekends. Gabriel teamed up with other boys his age, they were the most skillful ones, they climbed on the scaffolding to glue the covers mostly on the upper part, the middle and lower part was left for the children and the rest of the people. The mural is very close to where we live, which allowed us to collaborate all those days. The workday started between 08:30 and 09:00 a.m. and ended at 05:00 p.m.

Había muchas actividades por hacer como voluntario, no solo era pegar tapas, se podía clasificar las tapas por colores, también desenroscar unas tapas que eran de las botellas de licor (Vodka) , pero esta actividad era más para los hombres porque las tapas no cedían con facilidad, se requería fuerza, a Gabriel le salió una que otra ampolla en las manos 😓 (en las fotos podrán ver de cuales tapas les hablo) , recortar algunas tapas cuyos pedazos servían para rellenar algunas partes y por supuesto pegar las tapitas sobre el mural que era la parte más divertida, yo hice todas las actividades, la que me faltó hacer fue la de mezclar el pego y el cemento jajajaj pero eso lo hacía los señores albañiles de la Alcaldía. Lo que más me gustó fue el pegar las tapas, esto me mantenía enfocada en que quedaran bien pegadas y que guardaran la armonía de los colores y formas, era como terapia que hacía que mi mente se distrajera y las horas pasaran volando.

There were many activities to do as a volunteer, it was not only gluing caps, you could classify the caps by color, also unscrew some caps that were of the liquor bottles (Vodka), but this activity was more for men because the caps did not yield easily, it required strength, Gabriel got a blister or two on his hands 😓 (in the photos you can see which caps I am talking about), I did all the activities, the one I didn't do was to mix the glue and the cement, hahahahahah but that was done by the masons of the Mayor's Office. What I liked the most was gluing the lids, this kept me focused on making sure they were well glued and that they kept the harmony of colors and shapes, it was like therapy that made my mind distracted and the hours flew by.

Influencers, periodistas, poetas , escritores venían a conocer a Oscar y a ver en persona lo que se estaba haciendo, incluso algunos niños llegaban a contarle sobre lo que habían dicho sobre el mural y las obras de Oscar en sus exposiciones en la escuela, las maestras mandaron tarea para la casa 😂
Una de esas personas que vino de visita fue el Youtuber colombiano "elcaminodejuanse", este simpático muchacho hace turismo en moto y actualmente está recorriendo Venezuela para mostrar nuestro bello país a través de su canal de You Tube. Realmente fue muy emocionante compartir con estas personas y ver como esta avenida cobraba vida gracias a esta manifestación artística.
El observar el mural desde lejos, causaba sensación; pues desde esa óptica parecía que fuera pintado, las personas quedaban asombradas cuando se acercaban y comprobaban que eran tapas plásticas.

Influencers, journalists, poets, writers came to meet Oscar and see in person what was being done, even some children came to tell him about what they had said about the mural and Oscar's works in their exhibitions at school, the teachers sent homework for the house 😂.
One of those people who came to visit was the Colombian Youtuber "elcaminodejuanse", this nice guy does tourism on a motorcycle and is currently touring Venezuela to show our beautiful country through his You Tube channel. It was really exciting to share with these people and see how this avenue came to life thanks to this artistic manifestation.
Observing the mural from afar caused a sensation, because from that point of view it looked like it was painted, people were astonished when they approached and saw that they were plastic lids.
