David Vs. Goliath - Cheap Chaos Legion Deck Overcomes Overwhelming Odds | Splinterlands #393

Who doesn't love an underdog story? The kind of story where you face overwhelming odds and yet able to overcome this adversity. If you have been playing the game for a while, you know that immediately when you come up against a Goliath of an opposition team. 99% of the team the Goliath team will win, but occasionally, you pull a David and clinch a victory. And that's what I want to write about in this splinterlands post.

The Cheap Chaos Legion Lineup

The deck I used was mainly composed of cards from the Chaos Legion set.

Kelya Frendul

Kelya Frendul, my most-used summoner, valued at $5.2. It gives all my water monsters +1 armor and +1 speed, which was crucial for keeping my team alive.

Diemonshark

Diemonshark, my front-line tank, came in at just $1.56. It's a reliable tank with decent damage, armor, and health---perfect for absorbing hits and it can do some mean damage at the same time.

Flying Squid

Behind Diemonshark, I had the Flying Squid, valued at $0.7. For less than a dollar, thanks to Reach ability, it can attack from position two and deals three melee damage at four speeds, all while being protected by Diemonshark.

Djinn Oshannus

Source

Djinn Oshannus, another key monster only, that I was surprised is valued so cheaply. This magic damage dealer with high speed and health is primary source of magic damage in the lineup.

Deeplurker

Then there's Deeplurker, valued at $1.40---a potent melee monster that can attack from the backline with high speed and high damage.

Igor Darkspear

Next is Igor Darkspear valued at $1.86. Igor is a low-mana cost monster with high health in relation to its mana cost and provides support range damage.

Swamp Spitter

Rounding out the team is Swamp Spitter valued at $5.40. Swamp Spitter's armor repair ability is critical in buffing Diemonshark and aiding its survivability, while its doing range damage from the backline.

The Battle

The opposition had a stacked team that probably cost a decent chunk of cash to purchase. Doctor Blight and Lux Vega alone would set you back $3400 if you had to purchase them now on the secondary market. When I saw those cards line up, I thought the battle was over before it even began.

As the battle began, the team went to work with Diemonshark absorbing damage while Deeplurker and Djinn Oshannus started to do damage from the backline. Doctor Blight and Lux Vega tried to take control of battle and when Diemonshark fell, I thought I was in trouble, but the backline held strong and ensured the victory was clinched.

And when the battle result popped up, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. My cheap Chaos Legion lineup had taken down a Lux Vega and Doctor Blight Gold Foil team. It was a David vs. Goliath moment, and I was David with a cheap Chaos Legion deck!

Concluding Thoughts

I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing that a cheap Chaos Legion lineup can take out a Gold Foil legendary team that cost $3k+. On one hand, its comforting to know that the little guy always has a chance to win against the heavily stacked decks. On the other hand, is it a problem that cheap Chaos Legion cards can do so much damage? I don't know the answer to this, but it doesn't take away from clinching a very satisfying underdog win!
