Butterflies!

The most popular and well known exhibit at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in Chicago is the Judy Istock Butterfly Haven.

This glass domed room is filled with thousands of butterflies, pools of water, flowers, trees, and over 40 different species of butterflies flying around freely.

Every day they do a First Flight Butterfly Release and visitors learn about the life cycle from caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly. Seeing the newly-emerged butterflies and moths take flight for the very first time is an incredible experience!

Chrysalises are shipped to the Nature Museum in the mail from butterfly farms around the world.

Plates of over ripe fruits are placed around for the butterflies to feed on.

I have so many photos of butterflies that I will divide them into a few posts. I hope you enjoy seeing these.

All photos are from my family albums.

There are so many gorgeous butterflies in our world! Exhibits like this allow us to see so many that we would never see in our own backyards.

How do you manage to capture these butterflies so smoothly? Every time I try, they just fly away.🥺 I'm not as good at photography as you, and I don't have the same luck with getting good shots.😭

There were literally thousands of them! Butterflies everywhere! The odds of getting a butterfly photo are good when there are so many. 😁

Magical and beautiful creatures. I adore butterflies and how they transform from literally nothing, that cocoon, into such a gorgeous being 😍

It's an amazing place and it was fun to watch the small children that were visiting their, many of them being close to butterflies for the first time.

The first picture in which a butterfly is sitting on a beautiful flower I found the flower very attractive and beautiful. Because the color combination in it is very perfect and the flower is made up of small flowers. Also numerous butterflies in which each butterfly has a different pattern on its wings it's quite fantastic ✨😍

We also have a "butterfly room" in our city, but it's not that big. This is a very expensive business, you need to create your own world with a certain climate. At the same time, it should be understood that the climate for local butterflies is completely different from that of tropical butterflies.

Yes this is certainly a tropical environment. It's a great place to visit on a cold snowy winter day!

Do you think you will have many butterflies in your new garden? Most of these seem to be tropical.

Not sure. I have seen some white ones already and very tiny black/ white ones and bright blue ones not bigger then a finger nail. I planted flowers and have sown some wild flower and other anual/ perennial flower patches. They are growing but not flowering yet. Hope they attract more butterflies.
The tropical ones won’t be around here.
