Maggie's first birthday
I've always had the belief that birthdays have to be always celebrated, and even more so when it's the first one! So, a year ago, December 16th became a celebration date for our family, when "little" Maggie came to this world to make us even happier!
I obviously can't remember much of my childhood birthdays cause of the situation we lived in with my parents getting divorced and not owning a camera and all that but of those I do have recollection were good ones without a doubt. I remember once I got a pin&pon cake to sing happy birthday at school and once my grandma made an ice cream piñata for one of my brother's parties I enjoyed as well, the thing is, as i grew up i discovered the importance of celebrating birthdays had for me, and i decided that within my possibilities, my loved ones and my birthday would always be a celebration date, whether together or apart, always had to be remembered and celebrated some how!
Here I am, Wednesday, August 12th, 2020... getting ready for my first ultrasound!... Wait, what? -you may say- Yes, i found out i was pregnant having almost 5 months, no sickness, no belly, nothing... I was breastfeeding still so i never imagined my lack of menstruation would mean a pregnancy, but, well, it did mean that... Saying it was a surprise will be an understatement, but even so, it was so amazing to feel that i was going to be a mom again, AND being already 5 months with, again, no morning sickness or dizziness or even cravings (don't hate me) <was totally awesome, plus, i got to know the sex of the baby right away! Another baby girl ... YAAAAYYYYYY!!!
Maggie was conceived and born on quarantine, so the day she was born was a bit more stressful than, for example, the day her big sister was born. Starting for the fact of being completely alone during labor and until the next day at about 4pm cause, because of Covid, there wasn't allowed to have people other than doctors, nurses and women in labor inside the hospital. I started having contractions at 4 am, went to the hospital at 8 am and gave birth at 1:20 pm so that's 5 hours alone, in pain, and quite scared to be honest. The difference with my first pregnancy/labor was from heaven to earth, with my first i got meds, with Maggie i didn't. Mya was a tiny 2.59 kg baby, Maggie was 4.75 kg. And one of the biggest, after Mya was born i was taken to a room where my mom and my hubby were waiting for us, with Maggie, well, i was taken to a common room with three other new moms, that for me was the biggest shock, but everything went away when i saw my precious little girl.
My baby girl is the light of the house, it's incredible how much love can generate a small person but I've seen it first hand with both my girls. I know every mother in the world thinks their baby is the best, most adorable, smarter, more awesome baby, and it's true in every case, although all babies are different, so, my baby is the best, most adorable, smarter, more awesome baby. It's completely impossible not to fall in love with her as soon as you get to spend two minutes with her!
Well, talking about nerve wrecking things, there has to be a special place for introducing your newborn to your toddler... I was terrified of the reaction Mya could have when meeting her new baby sister, but boy was I wrong! she was delighted, very interested and she even told us "I'll take care of her" and wanted us to leave her holding Maggie alone, it was a lovely moment really, te kind of moment that makes you forget about every pain and every fear you had and leaves a warm heart
Now they are inseparable and i love seeing them play together, although it's not always fun and games, but, what siblings relationship is? I'm just happy and grateful they have each other to keep company and grow up together!
When Mya was born i said to myself i'd do the trend of taking a special picture every month of the first year, almost managed to do so, but i missed some, so, with Maggie i just decided i'd take a billion photos each day, doing so, by probability one had to be great to do a recount by the baby's birthday, and so it is! i have beautiful pictures -not on a special setting- of the development of Maggie through her first year!
Well, not really, that was my intention but i think my baby was a bit overwhelmed with decoration or she just didn't wanted to eat cake at the moment LOL, but i bought the small cake with that intention. She dead ate a bit of it and got cream smeared on her face, of course, that made her look even more cute, if that's even possible
