Finding a SUPERSTAR - a contest for (un)talented singers

American Idol

Hi guys! The talent shows bring out a great interest in people to watch usual people turning into a star and acquiring their dreams.

Although some people enjoy the best auditions as much as the worst ones, what sometimes happens on the scene when an extraordinary voice arrives is completely miraculous.

The new Idol/ Superstar contests seem to be very well received worldwide. However, these kinds of contests also play with people's expectations or orchestrate the show a lot behind the camera.

Besides the harsh competition, the jury can be sometimes very rough and that is incredibly downshifting for participants, especially when they are teens.

But what I have discovered lately through my searches I think overtops a lot of the classics X Factor or American Idol.

Superstar USA or The American Charade

Superstar USA is a television show aired on The WB in 2004 which misled contestants into believing they were looking for the best singer when, in fact, they were looking for the worst.

So, the show doesn't only award $50,000 in cash and a $50,000 budget to make a previously unreleased record to a contestant that couldn't hold a tune (Jamie Foss), but it just didn't reveal the truth to her until in front of the audience for whom she had just performed and after being announced she won.

Here is the incredible moment...

You can see here how Jamie's voice sounds like.

And things didn't stop here. Concerned that the live audience members would be unable to remain respectfully composed during the final performances, one producer falsely informed them that the singers were all terminally ill young people whose wishes were being granted by a charitable organization.

Well...that is way too much. So I am wondering...any American there who knows the show and can tell us the story behind it? I am curious how did the jury committed to that, nobody in the audience cared about how awful their voices sounded like...did all contestants have bad voices?

Oddly, I never heard of this. Sounds horrible and hilarious though, so I may have to check it out.
