About "Mutzen" and handmade finish bread

Hi Hive friends,
today i want to tell you my experiences on the christmas market in Rostock - the christmas market where i have been probably about 30 times after i moved to Rostock in the north :) Because of the pandemic it was not sure for a long time if the christmas market can take place at all and so it was of course everything else than an easy year for all the artisans and showmen. Nevertheless, the Christmas market then opened on 22 November, but was unfortunately already closed on 09 December again because the numbers rose higher. Nevertheless, I would like to tell you something about the Christmas market here, if you should have the opportunity to stroll there again next year. The Christmas market runs through the entire old town of Rostock, making it one of the most beautiful Christmas markets I've ever seen, in my opinion. If you just look at the Christmas market, you also inevitably pass the university building, which also usually has its gates open, so you can also look at this again:)

Another treat at this Christmas market is the homemade Finnish bread- it costs a hefty 6 euros- but I think it's definitely worth the price: it's homemade from whole grains and you can choose from different toppings, my topping was mushrooms and some kind of salad :)

It also starts very close to my apartment, at the "Neuer Markt", where you can also find the city hall. My favorite snack at the Christmas market are the "Mutzen", although the northerners are still not properly agreed on how to pronounce them correctly;) The Mutzen are super tasty, I think they taste a bit like Quarkbällchen, yet they are smaller and you get a small wooden skewer. so you can spear them. And powdered sugar gibts of course always in addition!:) Unfortunately, there are the Mutzen not with chocolate - so they would have tasted even better in my opinion. What I also noticed: There are no churrows (I have not found them), but the more crepes and savory dishes.

And if it should get too cold, then you can take a Glühweihn at the mulled wine stand and take a little break:) Or you can combine a small shopping tour with the Christmas market stroll, which I have also done more often. This is particularly well possible here, because the Christmas market just pulls through the whole city center:)

Just as well you can add a delicious meal to the Christmas market stroll, for example as here on the picture in the restaurant Burwitz. There you can find pasta, burgers and cocktails of good quality. It is a cozy inn and has in the warmer summer days also a large terrace on the new market, which is always well attended:)

What I can also super well recommend is a ride on the Ferris wheel - as long as the power does not fail: A day later, when I was allowed to marvel at the Christmas market on the new market from above, the news went around with us that there had been a major power outage and that the Ferris wheel for a three-quarter hour could no longer drive - so in case of need to dress warmly, if you do not want to freeze up there;) The Ferris wheel glows in all colors and looks especially beautiful with St. Mary's Church in the background. You also don't have to queue long for the ride, which is very pleasant in the freezing temperatures:D

Between the thin alleys here you can see hung lights, which make the cityscape even cozier and really put you in the Christmas mood. On the first floor of the houses of the old town you can find small corner stores, with shoes, stationery and clothing. If one comes wieter direction Kröpeliner Tor, these small stores rather give way to the large chains such as Only, DM, HundM or Nanunana. At Kröpeliner Tor this year was the end of the Christmas market, but in previous years it extended over the "Dobi" (which means Doberaner Platz) and even down to the Warnow and the small harbor there:)Close to the harbor there were then always the rides, which were always well attended especially by the children and young people. At the Dobi there were rather a few food stalls and a huge tent to warm up and drink mulled wine.

I hope you liked my post about the Rostock Christmas market and maybe Rostock can welcome you next year and you drink a Glühweihn at the new market in the middle of the scenery of the old town:) I hope you all have a happy new year today ! And that maybe next year we can go to the Christmas market without masks and it is also open in full length- For all the showmen and artisans and people who try to give us a nice Christmas time.
