THE WAEKNESS OF THE HEART

The weakness of the heart
Italy's central university has always been in the international university ranking, and the country is respectively well known in its culinary area, there was no better choice than this if you wanted to study gastronomy. For Luna Romero, the perfect choice.
The first day of classes would start to go like every foreign student's dream, much like in the movies. Just at the end of her classes, when she was on her way to her dormitory, the typical thing of every romance movie happened, what every young girl dreams of, when crossing a corner a boy appeared out of nowhere and they collided when they were distracted. A quick thought crossed Luna's mind, this is the beginning of my beautiful love story, and she didn't know how wrong she was.
"You should watch where you're going" complained that tall, Asian-faced boy with unkempt hair and distinctive freckles on his cheeks. "You're new aren't you?"
Luna shivered a little at his aggressive tone. "I'm sorry."
"Don't apologize, I don't gain anything from it."
"I'm sorry," she replied not knowing what to say.
He squeaked obfuscated with the girl's shy behavior, looked at her for a moment, and glared without saying it. He cleared his throat regaining his composure and continued on his way without picking up the notebooks as an act of chivalry.
At the same time Luna was dying of embarrassment as it was her only thought: his face is so cute, as she watched the lout who gave her a hard time walk away. She watched him until he was out of sight, then picked up her notebooks from the floor trying to regain her dignity.
That night they were both in each other's minds, the gestures, the look, the sound of his voice, and unable to help it, a grudge also began to grow in her breasts, though with different motives. Hide was thinking that he shouldn't approach that girl, he didn't hang out with weaklings anymore, and Luna was thinking that as much as she wanted to she shouldn't try to meet the lout, but in the end she couldn't judge him by the first impression.
A month passed without their paths crossing again. Until a crossover between their classes altered fate. When Luna entered the business administration classroom their eyes met without being able to avoid it, she tried to act as if she didn't recognize him, but the intense gaze of the brown-haired man didn't stop bothering her.
Those students would be the judges for the 3-A gastronomy class. When a slight laugh in front of her made her raise her gaze from the floor, her heart skipped a beat, he was there, watching her with a hint of mockery, is he a jerk by nature or what, Luna thought.
"How do I know I won't be poisoned by this dish, Professor?" Laughter made its presence known.
"You'll die first digesting your acidic words" declared Luna harshly.
"Uyyyy" scoffed a tall boy standing behind Hide.
"Dante, I've already told you that those who take an interest in me always end up hating me" said Hide mockingly.
"Come on Lucia, I told you it was a bad idea for you to put liquor in your food do you see how stupid it makes those who can't tolerate it?" more laughter could be heard.
At the teacher's warning, they left the classroom early. Hide felt embarrassed and annoyed, that little girl had really gotten his attention, but in the wrong way, now she felt like annoying the life out of him.
Weeks went by, but from time to time they started to see each other in some hallways, they avoided each other as much as possible, although it was noticeable that they wanted to insult each other from a distance, and it wasn't until two months later that they both got a big surprise that would join their paths.
Lucia, Luna's classmate and the only one she had made friends with outside of class, and that tall guy named Dante -who to her surprise was Hide's best friend- started dating.
It was Friday night, and they had been summoned to one of the bars near the university by their respective friends. They came from different streets, but as if it was a bad joke, they coincided at the entrance of the place.
"What are you doing here?" they both asked defensively.
"I can go wherever I feel like" he replied with an angry look.
"Same thing" Luna dodged him and went in first. She visualized her friend at the end with that boy she vaguely remembered. "Hi, Lu." she greeted confused.
"Excuse me" Hide pronounced in front of the table. And Luna looked at him with irritation.
"Is it that you can't forget about me or what?" Luna tried to tease, not knowing what was coming.
"The world doesn't revolve around you, you idiot" Hide replied from his great height.
"Stop both of you, please" Dante requested high-fiving Hide and inviting him to sit down. Luna turned to her friend asking for explanations with her eyes.
"I wanted to comment to you earlier, but I thought you would refuse to come" she confessed crestfallen.
"I wanted to comment to you earlier, but I thought you'd refuse to come," she confessed crestfallen.
"What's going on, Dante?" Hide asked irritably.
"Bro, this beautiful girl is my girlfriend, and she's his best friend" he sentenced looking at Lucia tenderly, but Luna and Hide were shocked by his words.
"We know you two don't get along, that's why we hadn't said it before, but we were sick of not being able to share if you were around" explained Lucia.
Luna sighed and decided to give in, Lucia was a girl she had learned to appreciate a lot, and she was hopeful that this was the beginning of a long friendship between them.
"If you're happy, that's what matters" Luna hugged her smiling.
Hide felt something in his heart as he watched Luna accept the situation, now he couldn't refuse because he would look foolish and childish, he suddenly felt like screaming. He looked at Dante and thought about their friendship, it was their third year together, he hadn't had a friendship this stable ever. Dante had been around since the beginning, he put up with his jokes and his bad jokes, he was someone extremely funny and not intimidated, they had shared too many moments and although he wouldn't tell her, he really felt proud because he had found love first.
"Hide?" Dante asked seriously, giving the brown man to understand that the situation was serious.
"Good for you, you've grown up," Hide teased.
Dante let out the restrained air. "Thanks, man. I've really wanted to say that for days now."
"Well, now that we're all happy let's get those drinks coming!" shouted Lucia.
"Here's to you guys," Hide said with a big smile.
Luna felt that it was someone else who was in front of her, because when he smiled he looked like someone else.
The hours passed, everyone was celebrating and drinking while the music livened up the atmosphere, and on several occasions Luna and Hide were left alone at the table when their friends were dancing. Luna didn't understand why he seemed to hate her and Hide didn't understand why her attitude bothered him so much. When it was 12 o'clock, neither Lucia nor Luna seemed to be the same, they were too drunk and cheerful.
Can't feel my face by The Weeknd started to play and Luna stood up full of ecstasy, she loved that song.
"You, dance with me!" she shouted over the noise.
Hide looked sideways in disbelief, Dante made him react by laughing and pushing him.
"Come on buddy, you won't think of refusing" he goaded him.
"You owe me one, Dante."
"You and I both know it's you who owes it to me" the alluded one looked at him suspiciously, but he walked until he approached the girl who was already dancing alone on the dance floor.
The rhythm was really contagious and without realizing it, they were both dancing very close to each other. Bless The Weeknd, thought both influenced by alcohol, because one thing was for sure, no matter how much discomfort they felt for each other, the attraction was there, it was always there.
The minutes passed and so did the songs, but they were still on the track. When the music changed to a slower genre, they decided to sit down.
"Thank you" Luna whispered looking at the table.
"Why?"
"I thought you'd turn me down" Luna looked at him warily, her cheeks were flushed and Hide didn't know if it was because of the alcohol or the situation.
He bit his tongue to avoid saying something stupid and ruining the moment. "It's morning, let's get you back to your dorm."
"Really?" Luna looked at the time on her cell phone and was amazed. "Welcome Saturday" she laughed to finish her beer.
"Come on, I don't think you're in any condition to get there alone" Hide held out a hand.
"Sure I can, I've never needed a man" He felt hurt, but he didn't say anything, not because he insulted her would he leave her alone, he couldn't. Luna noticed the expression on the boy's face and knew she should learn to shut up. "Sorry, thanks for offering."
She corrected herself, but Hide was already back in his spite-filled bubble.
This one just nodded with his hands in his pockets, then they said goodbye in the distance to Lucia and Dante. As they walked through the university campus they walked in silence, Luna was trying hard to hide her condition and Hide looked like he hadn't had a drink all night. When she nearly fell when she tripped over her own feet, Hide had no choice but to carry her in his arms.
"You should eat more" he sentenced as he felt the girl's light weight.
"I've always been high metabolism" she confessed closing her eyes and letting herself go.
A few minutes passed and Hide stopped. When Luna opened her eyes intrigued, their gazes collided. His face was really close, she could enjoy those beautiful freckles and felt the desire to kiss them.
"What's wrong?" she dared to ask bringing the boy back to himself.
"Mm, I don't know where your bedroom is" he answered without stopping looking at her, he seemed spellbound.
"6th module, room B64" she indicated and closed her eyes again to stop her frantic heartbeat, she really wanted to kiss the boy.
The steps continued, calmly, slowly. They both clung to each other, the breeze caressed their bodies and the street lamps illuminated their path.
"We're here" Hide warned before putting her down "can you get in without help?"
"I think so" replied Luna leaning against the wall, she felt unprotected not being in his arms what was wrong with her?
The cicadas were adding to the tension and the wind was ruffling her hair, and maybe her feelings.
"Okay, bye" Hide gave a slight backward turn to leave.
"Don't say that" Luna whispered "don't say goodbye, say see you later."
The silence became suffocating, she wanted him to say something, he wanted to hear her speak again.
"Hide" she called out to him and no matter how much resistance the alluded one tried to have, he turned quickly and kissed her. He could blame it on the alcohol, the late night, the stress, the anxiety, the cold or the heat, but it didn't matter at that moment, he was kissing her and he didn't know he wanted it so badly.
The kiss was slow, wet, delicate.
They both held their breath throughout, and broke apart for lack of air. Luna touched her mouth when Hide turned his back to her, it was very tender, she thought.
"Come in so I can go quietly, Luna" when she heard him, she knew why he kissed her, he called her name, she had never done that even though she had known it for months, and now that he was calling her name, she wanted to kiss him again.
But she didn't, she needed to think.
She opened the door as best she could and before she closed, she heard him say goodbye again.
"See you later" is the last thing Luna remembers of that day.
The possible beginning of a story together.

This does go a little over, but every now and then the muse strikes and we have to respond. You did a really good job. The story couldn't be shorter without ruining the flow.
Thank you for posting the story in the Ink Well community. We appreciate that you engage with other writers.
Thank you, I really appreciate you allowing me to be here, a hug.
This was a really nice read that went buy fluently which is not an easy task in 2K+ words story. So I really appreciate how it went on and it still felt tight as a story and not too "wordy".
Excellent work here.
I'm so glad you read it, I tried as much as possible to keep the plot from getting tedious, it makes me happy to read that you enjoyed it.
A story of young love, between encounter and disagreement, well told, with successful elements of psychological interest, and a happy ending, although open-ended. I liked the title. Beautiful photo! Regards, @marysenpai.
The title was born from the memory of an old love, I thought that those words with which I was once rejected, would be appropriate for this story and transform it into something pleasant to remember. I like to take pictures, that's where the cover comes from, thanks for reading.
Dear Mary,
I saw that this is a long read, so I thought of maybe reading it later,.. but I did the first paragraph and promised myself that I'll just stop if the story doesn't capture my curiosity and disciplined attention.
And here I am, 15 minutes later glad of well enjoyed time with a romantic hopeful story planted in my mind :)
Thank you, it was a pleasure to read!
Happy Sunday!
Actually my biggest concern was that you would decide not to read it because of the length, I know that time sometimes does not allow us between so many things, but it is a relief to know that the first paragraphs do the job of capturing the attention, at least in you and those who commented me, thank you very much for your support.
I can't not read your stories, Mary!!
Keep the good thing coming!
Thank you for sharing your beauty!!
Happy Tuesday!!
¡Felicitaciones!
