Where Replacement is Needed in Education System
Educational system in Nigeria is one I look at and I regret and ask what the essence of actually going through the system really means when the majority of the graduates don't have anything productive as a result of their being graduates.
It is very painful how a man practicing welding would be richer than a graduate. I feel it shouldn't be that way. There should be something that would make a graduate proud to be one after the tussle and stress of 4 years .
If not for the delay students experience during strike, ASUU is one arm in the university that I love so much. If I want to make any improvement in the educational system, it would be the infrastructure. The majority of the tertiary institutions have a very poor learning environment, no serene learning environment, and not enough learning infrastructure.
How would students grasp what lecturers are teaching when the hall is stuffy due to the crowd, the seats are not enough for students to sit. Can someone in a discomfort state understand a lesson?
One thing I will remove is the policy of admitting too many students that won't be productive after years of effort and restlessness. The lack of a good learning environment is actually contributing to the poor academic result in the life of graduates. The rate students use chits to pass exams is alarming and this is a poor quality learning environment.
For instance, consider a library: it's rare for someone to claim they spent three hours there and gained nothing. The peaceful and conducive environment motivates students to study.
That can be felt in the learning level if required resources are provided. How can a computer science or computer education student be learning the theoretical aspect of ICT, all courses in the university require practical but the students get the opposite.
Giving access to technologies in this digital age would be a good start. There should always be a reform in the overall curriculum and not every year the same thing. The course outline, handout I used in 2017 is the same use year after year. No minus, no addition.
If the governments are really concerned about the futures of the upcoming leaders, then a thought of quality and not quantity should have been implemented. But no, the students are invested, they prefer to bring in a crowd who at the end of the journey won't be able to defend themselves and the course they studied. If I remove something it will be the number of admitted students in every academic year.
If the number is moderate, the learning would be interesting, the students would want to challenge each other and learn from each other, and the lecturer would have time to endorse and teach effectively. When the necessary things needed to take care of are taken care of, it will make earning fun and beneficial.
THE END
I AM @marynn,
THANKS FOR VISITING MY BLOG AND FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ TILL THE LAST WORD, YOU ARE AWESOME 💞 AND I'M GRATEFUL🙏. 🌹
You are right. Everything has to be done moderately even in education. If the government put into consideration all that you have pointed out, education will save its purpose better.
I'm glad you understood my points @iskawrites. Education is seriously not serving it purpose to some extent. When the majority are left out in their respective field, then there is need for the government to see and look into the admission policy among others in all the tertiary institutions. Quality is far better than quantity which I know they know better.
Although this situation is not seen in some schools but I experienced it big time.
We used to stand with sweet in the jam-packed hall to learn. Our school system needs to do better
If you say so for private sectors I will say yes but you see federal universities, it is a rampant thing o.
Yes ooo!
Very rampant
We have learnt enough of the theoretical knowledge which end up been a waste in the end, we need a more practical knowledge and a conducive learning environment.
You need to see how we have often sat down on the bare floors for lectures in my university days, very embarrassing but we have no choice.
I mean eeeh my sister..., if only these lecturers would have conscience and do the right thing. Because they know more than we do but what's their business.
It's indeed very embarrassing for real. It's still happening now. Even worst now with the merging of two sets when there is no conducive learning environment, lack of spacious lecture rooms. It's embarrassing indeed.
