Isn't Easy Trying to Forget a Betrayed Trust

Not everyone can be trusted. Sometimes we build trust in people, and they end up disappointing us. For me,I have learned to approach trust cautiously, and if I choose to trust, I do so with a clear mind. Distrust can occur in different angles,I don't trust people once I see they lie so much and don't stick to plans, old time friends can end a long built friendship due to trust issues same thing with relationships,a customer can stop patronising a seller because he's not trustworthy, the list is endless.

Years ago, something happened to me that taught me never to easily place my trust on everyone and to approach trust with careful consideration. I had a friend who hated investing in anything online. According to her all online businesses are scam. There was an investment platform running successful then and I thought taking advantage of it while it last would be a wise decision. A thought of opening two accounts crossed my mind but there was a rule of not creating more than two accounts.

I confided in my friend about my plan, I investing 100,000 naira ($167) using her account details, with the understanding that I would withdraw the funds using her bank account. She agreed, and I proceeded accordingly.

When the 30 days elapsed, I initiated a withdrawal request. The platform's dashboard indicated that the payment had been cleared and made. I inquired if she had received an alert, but she denied it. Initially, I attributed it to banks and their delays. However, as time passed and her responses remained the same, I became worried.

I asked her for a bank statement and she promised to obtain it the next day. But for three consecutive days, she avoided my calls. I knew where she lived, so I decided to visit her house. Arriving, I explained the situation to her mother.

With her mother's ending yelling her name, she finally came out, at first she lied that she received the money that afternoon and planned to inform me later. I didn't want to call her a lair so I requested her to transfer the money to me. However, she began offering excuses that got me angry and disappointed. I conducted myself before her mum as I knew she was the only one that can help me get my funds.

As her mother pressured her, she reluctantly opened her banking app. The balance in the account was 150,000 naira ($250) and upon inspecting recent transactions, it was clear that she had used the money for various transactions. It was a bitter realization that destroyed the trust I had placed in her.

I insisted she transfer the entire amount, but she refused. She convinced her mother that the money that belongs to me was only 100,000 naira ($167). Frustrated and angry, I chose not to escalate the situation further. I told her to send me the 100,000 naira ($167) and she did.

After that incident, the trust I had in her diminished. Our friendship changed, and I distanced myself from her. Although she later apologized and I forgave her, the memory of the incident remained. Making me realize that not everyone can be trusted, sometimes we build trust in the wrong people, and they end up disappointing us. For me, I have learned to approach trust cautiously, and if I choose to trust, I do so with a clear mind to accept whatever the outcome yields mostly money matters.
