HiveNaija Contest WK 12 -| My Favourite Season
If I were to choose between the rainy and dry seasons, I would without thinking twice go for the rainy season. The dry season is one that i can't even endure for a month once everywhere start being dry. The rainy season brings along numerous benefits that make it my favorite.
Personally, on some days, I just find myself feeling super happy when I hear the calming sound of rain on my roof, especially when I'm comfortably laying on my bed. I know rainy season comes with its own disadvantage, for a country like ours with bad roads, driving or walking during this season requires wearing boots and getting ready. But it's still better for me than the dry.
We all know how scorching the dry season can become. The non-stop sun can make one feel as if the brain is being fried. Even to this day, I can clearly recall the experiences of walking under the scorching sun during my high school days. The heat from the tarred road would seep through my All Stars shoes, even when the sole of the almighty All Stars is high. It's not just humans who suffer; this extreme heat affects other living things as well.
The dryness of the season causes the grass to die off, but the rainy season breathes life back into these parched landscapes. In my village, I have witnessed how farmers pray for rain during the dry season. This shows the true value of the rainy season.
I remember my uncle, a farmer who was into crop production and animal rearing. During the dry season, the leaves of his crops would often get eaten up by locusts and grasshoppers, and without rainfall, many of his crops struggled to regenerate. His goats faced the brunt of the dry season, as finding pasture was a constant war. The only way to keep the goats alive was to let them forage for themselves, and this often led them to people's cassava farms, causing no end of trouble.
Due to these hardships, my uncle adopted a strategy. As the dry season approached, he would sell off many of his goats, retaining only a few that he could manage. Then, once the rainy season arrived and everything turned green again, he would multiply his flock and restart his business.
The rainy season is the season of growth and renewal. That moisture in the earth brings about a sense of renewal. This season is also one when you can enjoy the sounds of living creatures like frogs, toads, and crickets in the night, creating an atmosphere that feels pleasant.
Unlike the dry season, there's no scorching sun, no dying leaves, no dust, and no drought to contend with during the rainy season. This makes me wonder how humans can cope with agriculture without rainfall. While both seasons have their role, the excessive sun during the dry season can be an hindrance to the crop growth, especially to the germinating plants in their delicate early stages.
In addition, the rainy season is a blessing that not only renew the land but also gives respite from the harshness of the dry season. It's a time when everything shine and grow, and the world is transformed into a lush and vibrant landscape.
One just have to learn to embrace all the seasons, because they both come with advantages and disadvantages that makes it tough to choose.
Dry season cracks my skin, which is why I make use of oil to help sort it out.
Rainy season makes roads and footpath unbearable to walk on depending on how bad the area is.
With all this, they still have their positive impacts to life.
You are right, nothing with advantage comes without disadvantage. Learning how to adapt is what makes us stronger. I don't know how I survive dey season, the cracking, whitish skin color and dryness are unbearable.
Seriously unbearable.
