Evolution of Social Media
INTRO
Hello and welcome to my blog. I'm excited to bring you another publication in response to the weekly #hivelearners prompt. Every week brings a new set of editions and topics. This edition discusses the evolution of social media, as well as likes and dislikes of it. Before I continue, let's take a quick look at the edition's topic as published by the community.
Week 05: Edition 03
The Evolution of Social MediaSocial Media came to the forefront about ten to fifteen years ago and since then it has grown in popularity and there will be no stopping it. Over the years, more platforms have emerged and changes have been made to existing ones. Tell us two reasons you like social media. And also two reasons you feel it is bad.
What is Social Media & How Did it Start?
Social media is an internet-based technology that allows people to share ideas, thoughts, and information via virtual networks and platforms.
Social media began as a way of communication between friends and families but was later adopted by businesses willing to take advantage of the new popular form of communication to engage their customers. The power of social media is the ability to relate, and exchange information with anyone on the planet, or with many people at once.
The invention of the telegraph machine in 1844 marked the beginning of social media. Samuel Morse sent the first message from Baltimore to Washington D.C. at this time. The emergence of a research network known as the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) later led to the rise of social media. According to a Miami University Blog, this research network enabled scientists from four universities to connect and share resources from the comfort of their own offices. However, with the launch of NSFNET, a vibrant, fast, and more digital network by NSF, social media became more robust.
What is the future of social media?
Web 1.0 Social Media
The first form of social media existed in the form of a web 1. This is when one person or organization distributes content to a large number of people through websites, e-mail newsletters, and other means. It is typically a one-way communication system that is not particularly interactive.
Web 2.0 Social Media
Web 2.0 was the catalyst for the establishment of a two-way communication system in the online domain. People can make public posts and communicate with one another and organizations. It is the act of one person or organization publishing content to many people on social networking sites, who then republish your content to their friends, fans, followers, connections, and so on. Web 2.0 social media is the one that is currently being experienced through platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, and many others. Both web 1.0 and 2.0 social media have drawbacks, which stem primarily from their centralized nature.
Web 3.0 Social Media
To put it another way, this is the next stage of social media. It provides a high level of information autonomy and is completely uncensored. Web 3.0 encompasses all of the preceding, with the exception that the Web experience is no longer limited to desktop and laptop computers while stationary in one location. It's the Internet on the go, powered by smartphones and tablets. To drive traffic to your mobile website, group text campaigns work in the same way that e-mail newsletters did in Web 1.0. Text-to-Give technology enables you to make quick, easy donations from your mobile phone in response to urgent calls to action. Smartphone apps make it possible to publish and share information while on the go. The Hive platform is one example of a web 3 platform.
My Likes & Dislikes of Social Media
Likes
Social media has a high number of users, making it very easy to reach a significant number of people. It allows individuals and businesses to reach out to a vast number of people who are interested in their products and services. The finest element is that it allows people to engage directly with their audience without the involvement of a third party.
Aside from simply interacting with people, social media aids in the promotion of one's brand. The option to post free organic content allows you to create brand identification with your audience over time.
I can also add that it has prevented many cases of depression since lonely people can find comfort and company in their regular use of social media.
Dislikes
As ideal as social media appears to be for disseminating information, it also has a drawback in that it makes it easier for people to spread incorrect information, which can cause harm to others or lead to conflict.
Second, fraudulent activities are easily carried out on social media, resulting in naive individuals becoming victims of a platform they had planned to gain from.
In conclusion, social media is typically regarded as beneficial because its benefits outnumber its drawbacks. Second, the majority of its drawbacks are due to the mischievous character of humans expressing themselves openly, rather than a flaw in the system.

Thank you for reading
It's my pleasure dear.
I love how you lectured us on social media from it's inception till data in an article that's under 1000 words.
I also like the social media theme approach, I see what you did there with the "Likes and Dislikes" subheadings. They're just cool.
The issue of fake information and the speed at which information travels through social media is a really pressing one. I wonder what can be done about it!
About the fake information, I don't think much can be done about it. People just need to get wiser and be able to distinguish fake from real because if restrictions gets introduced in social media, it will no longer be any fun as it is now
Yea. True. There's truly no way to tame fake information. Though, most social media platforms are trying to reduce it. But it still prevails!
I can also add that it has prevented many cases of depression since lonely people can find comfort and company in their regular use of social media.
Very correct, social media is a cure or a remedy for depression and loneliness. With social media you can easily reach the world in a minute and as a business person you can advertise your product on a very cheap amount of money no longer the newspapers and television ads which consumes more time.
Thanks a lot for sharing this with us 🤝
Very much on point. Life is much easier with Social Media. Thanks for reading
