The Gambler's predicament: Two sides of a coin
Gambling, a game of chance, with various opinion. Some see it as harmless entertainment, while other sees it as destructive or a destructive addiction.I think the truth lies somewhere in between,as I am not a gambler but I have friends who does,of which I believe there are two different kind of people that gamble, the responsible ones and the irresponsible ones,I believe the latter are much more than the former though. And I hope you are aware that females gamble too✌️
A responsible gambler sets limits and sticks to it
A responsible gambler sees gambling as fun or lets say as entertainment and not a source of income
A responsible gambler is aware of the odds and risks of gambling so he only gambles with disposable income, with what he knew won't affect either he loses or not.
While the irresponsible ones sees gambling as a source of income, they neglects responsibilities, relationships, and well-being,they bother less about every other thing and are focused on gambling to multiply whatever they have to manage.
They even see it as a means of escape from stress, anxiety and all,of which would definitely multiply after sometime, they even try to conceal or lies about their habits of gambling.
Let me chip in a story about this friend of mine,he was my neighbor that was about 4 or 5 years ago,we were course mate,he started by using his school fee to gamble,it went down the drain,he's yet to be registered as a student because he's yet to pay,but there are others like that,so we go for lectures and all, there was a time we were to group ourselves for practical and pay some certain amount in class,he volunteered and became a group leader for a group, collected the money and guessed what, gambled with it,he went on and in for so long,he stopped attending classes after the first session since he couldn't pay, his mum would visit when she traveled to work around and she doesn't even know,he rented out his room, collected the money and still gambled with it,he became someone who squat with people..,there was a day someone gave us a little change to get something to eat,we were going to buy something and he branched by a shop, used some minutes and finally came out to rant telling me how he almost won and stories of how he thought the money when staked, could multiply and we would be able get more things and foodstuffs, that would be enough to share to sustain us,I was like..is this a joke, are you playing. But that was it.
So For those having problem gambling,I will suggest they seek professional help and counseling, they might not want to,we need to help them, practicing self control also would help and also to consider another or an alternative hobby or something that interest them, and I think the government can also help by Implementing effective regulations and age limits.
Gamblers are always complex individuals, driven by diverse, various and different motivations, circumstances and situations.
Let's promote good and responsible gambling practices, so as to reduce harm to individual, families, communities and support those that are affected.
