In my childhood, I studied in a public school that still remains and continues to be the best school. There were teachers with a style and dedication to teaching that made no one bored in class.
Even the pressure of taking an exam became less unpleasant because of the advice those teachers gave us. Bullying has always existed, but in my time the educators had more autonomy in the classroom and not only affirmed the basic values learned at home but also taught them and involved them to participate in dialogues that included scenes, such as respecting parents, being good friends or even what it means to be classmates. So it created a harmonious environment, of course, there were always the exceptions, children with real behavioral problems.
I remember a boy named Simon who was very intelligent, cooperative, kind, until his behavior changed very radically. He fell asleep in the classroom, did not perform as he used to, and failed all his exams. So the teacher, worried, went to visit him.
It turned out that his parents had separated and his father got a new job that demanded a lot from him and someone had to take care of his other siblings, and since he was the oldest, it was his turn, so he didn't attend classes much. The teacher, worried about Simon's future, was thinking about how she could help him until she came up with an idea that implied a lot of responsibility, she committed herself and talked to the school management about her idea and they supported it.
It consisted of taking Simon's siblings to school and having them in the classroom with him, so he could take care of them with the help of other people who volunteered and watch their classes, there was a dining room and the children had breakfast and lunch at school. One day it was time to visit historical places in the city and because they were small children it was a problem to take them, Simon was excited to attend and told his siblings, tomorrow we will visit a house called a museum, I will tell them stories of everything they see there, but they can not touch anything, in agreement with the teacher and her collaborators, they left and the other children asked each other: Have you tried the museum? Another child answered: "You can't taste the museum, it's not food," and the teacher responded: True, however, we could say that to know it is to taste what it feels like to see how certain things were in the past compared to the present.
It was an extraordinary experience, Simon's siblings were eager and happy to see different things they didn't know and Simon managed to tell stories to his siblings about the antiques in the museum.
Simon's siblings eventually started attending the same school, it was no longer such a burden for Simon because the paternal grandmother took care of her grandchildren, and they would ask the teachers When are we going to the museum? another child asked What's that? and they were happy to know, they would explain and ask then Haven't you tried the museum? It is exciting.
