ENGLISH VERSION

For a while I worked in a high school as a facilitator in the evening hours, most of them were adults eager to make up for lost time, with dreams and new projects that demanded an academic degree.

It was interesting that time, I could see a lot of enthusiasm in their beginnings, some gave up in the middle of the year, others persevered, and taking into account that they left their jobs directly to the classroom, they returned home after 10 at night, men and women with families, who for one reason or another could not finish their studies, now as adults, resumed again that stage that should have been finished at the time.

The demands and pressure of new jobs, promotions earned for their abilities, needed to be backed up by a verifiable academic level, which drove them to continue. For them it was exhausting and demanding as they had to make time also to study, prepare for exhibitions and all that the level of education implied, for that time.

There were times when they would fall asleep at their desks, and I would talk about this with the other teachers who taught other subjects, about how exhausting and sacrificing it was for them.

The matter was not discussed any more and we continued, but I personally had that concern because in that rhythm of effort and sacrifice they did not perform. Until one day, a math teacher arrived with a big carrot cake and a pot of coffee, and proposed a group dynamic before starting classes, without departing from the parameters required by the educational area, she proposed it, liked it and from that moment it was put into practice, it consisted of describing her day's work in a summarized and concrete way, so that everyone could participate.

Then came a round of coffee with a good piece of carrot cake, it was something liberating, it reduced fatigue, it activated the level of attention. You could say it was because of the coffee or the ingredients in the cake, but I knew that just being interested in their work and how they felt, giving them a chance to let loose a little, motivated them and helped them feel more at ease.

It was a kind of therapy that was repeated during the whole period, varying only the drink, it was not that the carrot cake had something special, it was that the teacher specialized in that flavor of cake and it was very good, the truth was that it had a special touch, the love with which she prepared it daily.

For graduation day, each one gave words of thanks, and the final phrase, giving it a touch of joke, was "Thanks to the carrot cake we were able to graduate" it was an unforgettable time.
