Writing help

  • A free app: Grammarly. A lot of us are not native English speakers and I am finding it a helpful app. It will underline spelling and grammar mistakes. Remember that it is not always right -especially if you use complex sentence structures. Here is the link

  • Remember The Most Dangerous Writing App. You set the time - 5 min - and start typing. Don’t stop!!! It will destroy what you wrote if you stop for more than 3 seconds - and backspace does not count as writing on the app. If you are prone to stop and think - this app forces you to keep going. You can make corrections after the 5 minutes are over.

  • A timer. Egg timer is a free tool you can use on your desktop to set a time. This is useful for our freewrites or if you want to work in blocks of time and then take a break. Here is the link

  • I found this app through @emwalker. Use it regularly and it will help you type faster and more accurately. [10 fast fingers](https://10fastfingers.com/typing-test/english

It is very interesting how in different cultures the bones and ashes represent something mystical, an element that allows one to impregnate oneself with wisdom, special powers, magic and a lot of knowledge. Ancient tribes of Africa have a tradition of cremating their dead, especially their shamans, and distributing their ashes in a concoction that later in a tribal ritual, all seated around the communal bonfire, consume in an act that they are convinced will provide them with better crops, health, food and prosperity for all. It is as if through those ashes and bones they were able to prolong the life of their loved one. Other tribes use the ashes as material for the walls of their huts, and in this way ward off evil spirits that try to enter their homes while they sleep. It is also common to see how they place the bones and skeletons around the village, as a warning sign for those who intend to invade or disturb their comfort zone, which I find quite intimidating and quite terrifying, but at the same time amazing. Walking through these cultures and traditions tells us the story of how we as human beings have evolved from believing in ashes and bones, to currently having other gods such as the internet, technology, social networks and cell phones. They actually represent the same thing as those tribal bones and ashes, only we put it in another context.

It is a subject on which you should reflect.

This has been my participation today for the initiative of 5 minutes of freewriting.
