A modo de introducción debo informar que he venido publicando sitios icónicos de la República del Perú porque mi esposa estaba visitando ese bello País suramericano; afortunadamente ya regresó a Venezuela; por cierto, con una bella y grata experiencia turística y feliz por haber visitado a nuestro hijo, a la nieta y demás familiares y amigos. Mi esposa regresó del Perú, y ahora mi nieta con su mamá, se fueron de paseo para España.
En reciente visita a la Ciudad de Barcelona, España, mi amada nieta y su madre estuvieron en el histórico Arco de Triunfo de esa hermosa ciudad y desde allí me enviaron, vía WhatsApp, las fotografías que expondré para ustedes en esta publicación.

Gracias a esa agradable visita y a la gentileza de la madre de mi nieta, que me envió esas fotografías, pude conocer el Arco, obra arquitectónica diseñada por el arquitecto José Vilaseca, este monumento se construyó como entrada principal a la Exposición Universal de Barcelona de 1888. Según la información que encontré en la web el Arco fue oficialmente inaugurado el 20 de abril del 1888 considerado por los historiadores como la puerta de entrada a la modernidad.

Thanks to that pleasant visit and the kindness of my granddaughter's mother, who sent me those photographs, I was able to see the Arch, an architectural work designed by the architect José Vilaseca, this monument was built as the main entrance to the Universal Exhibition of Barcelona in 1888 According to the information I found on the web, the Arch was officially inaugurated on April 20, 1888, considered by historians as the gateway to modernity.

Como todo investigador necesité escudriñar en la internet para conocer parte de la historia del Arco y me encontré varios datos interesantes como, por ejemplo, que tiene 30 metros de alto y que es de proporciones clásicas construído con ladrillos rojos para que se destacara su belleza, su estilo predominante es el llamado neomudéjar que fue un estilo artístico y arquitectónico que se desarrolló a finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX. Este estilo predominó en Europa, especialmente en la península ibérica.

The iconic and imposing Arc de Triomf in Barcelona shows different faces or facades that, due to its excellent artistic decoration, cause admiration to locals and visitors; tourists are delighted with the motifs that are represented in the different friezes: The main frieze represents Barcelona, embodied in a figure flanked by the goddesses Cybele and Pallas Athena. Los motivos artísticos que representan los distintos frisos llaman la atención por su valor histórico y por lo que ellos significan: el friso La Recompensa, refleja el momento en el que Barcelona reparte premios a los ganadores. En ese friso se pueden ver unos relieves donde aparecen el escudo de la Corona Española y dos leones que soportan las columnas de Hércules. En cuanto a los laterales son alegorías como homenaje a la actividad agrícola, comercial e industrial, las ciencias y las artes. Es bueno destacar que en la curva del arco se puede apreciar el escudo de Barcelona y los escudos de las 48 provincias españolas.

The artistic motifs that represent the different friezes draw attention for their historical value and for what they mean: the The Reward frieze reflects the moment in which Barcelona distributes prizes to the winners. Gracias a esta maravillosa experiencia turística, no solamente mi nieta y su mamá se enriquecieron en conocimientos artísticos, históricos y geográfícos, sino que yo pude viajar, de manera virtual, a ese lugar. Gracias a las fotografías pude aprender y difrutar la belleza del arco; demostrando una vez mas la importancia del buen uso de la tecnología que nos lleva a recorrer el mundo de manera inmediata. Una video llamada, por ejemplo, hace que en tiempo real hagas un paseo virtual a lugares inimaginados, basta con que algún familiar o amigo esté en ese sitio para que se conecte contigo y ambos, en lugares y en horarios distintos, admiren al momento la escena que se proyecta.

This beautiful civil monument is located exactly between Paseo Lluis Companys and Paseo San Juan, city of Barcelona, Spain. Thanks to this wonderful tourist experience, not only my granddaughter and her mother were enriched in artistic, historical and geographical knowledge, but I was able to travel, virtually, to that place. Thanks to the photographs I was able to learn and enjoy the beauty of the arch; demonstrating once again the importance of the proper use of technology that leads us to travel the world immediately. A video call, for example, makes you take a virtual tour to unimagined places in real time, it is enough for a family member or friend to be in that place to connect with you and both, in different places and at different times, immediately admire the projected scene.
