Living in a tropical country whose northern border borders entirely with the Caribbean Sea and just a tiny fraction in the northeastern end with the Atlantic Ocean, it is difficult to get snow, unless you take the car towards the Andes Mountains for about five hours of travel, until you reach the state of Merida, where it is possible to find perpetual snow on its highest peaks, and occasionally during some days of the year, on the road that connects this region with the center of the country.
On the other hand, I must confess that I have never made ice sculptures, besides, the temperature would not allow it to be maintained for a long time, leaving after a few minutes or hours, a huge puddle of water.
However, I have some pictures of the honeymoon trip I made three decades ago to the "Big Apple". In Venezuela it is common to have weddings in the month of December, among other reasons, because of the proximity of the Christmas holidays, in addition, the days are cooler and it rarely rains, ensuring a pleasant and suitable climate for these events, which for some is a blessing, and for others, not.
This pair of photos where I am the protagonist, were taken by the one who a couple of weeks ago had become my wife, during a walk we took on the first day of 1994 to the iconic Central Park, in the center of the island of Manhattan, while most New Yorkers were still asleep from the New Year's Eve festivities of the night before.
The photos were taken with an analog camera of the time, and it was up to me to scan them to .jpg format and then edit them with the tools offered by the Picsart and Snapseed applications, to attenuate the scars that the passage of time left on them.
Viviendo en un país tropical cuya frontera norte limita en su totalidad con el Mar Caribe y apenas una diminuta fracción en el extremo noreste con el Oceáno Atlántico, es difícil conseguir nieve, a menos que tome el carro en dirección a la Cordillera de los Andes por unas cinco horas de viaje, hasta llegar al estado Mérida, donde es posible encontrar nieves perpetuas en sus cumbres mas altas, y ocasionalmente durante algunos días del año, en la carretera que une esta región con el centro del país.
Por otra parte, debo confesar que nunca he realizado esculturas en hielo, además, la temperatura no permitiría que se mantuviese por mucho tiempo, dejando luego de algunos minutos u horas, un enorme charco de agua.
Sin embargo, tengo algunas fotos del viaje de Luna de Miel que hice hace tres décadas atrás a la "Gran Manzana". En Venezuela es común realizar las bodas en el mes de Diciembre, entre otras razones, por la cercanía de las festividades navideñas, además, los días son más frescos y rara vez llueve, garantizando un clima agradable y adecuado para estos eventos, que para algunos constituye una bendición, y para otros, no.
Este par de fotos donde soy el protagonista, las tomó quien un par de semanas atrás se había convertido en mi esposa, durante un paseo que realizamos el primer día del año 1994 al icónico Central Park, en el centro de la isla de Manhattan, mientras la mayoría de los neoyorquinos aún dormían fruto de los festejos de Año Nuevo de la noche anterior.
Las fotos fueron tomadas con una cámara analógica de la época, correspondiéndome a mí escanearlas para llevarlas al formato .jpg y luego editarlas con las herramientas que ofrecen las aplicaciones Picsart y Snapseed, para atenuar las cicatrices que el transcurso del tiempo dejó en ellas.
