Saint Seiya o Los Caballeros del Zodiaco es uno de esos animes que vi de pequeña, me entretenía pero no me gustaba tanto como otros. No lo terminé no porque no fuera bueno, sino que habían muchos otros que eran más mi estilo que ese. Sin embargo, hace unos años una amiga que adora este anime me recomendó ver el spin off llamado The Lost Canvas (El Lienzo perdido). No pensé que mi opinión cambiaría mucho, pero debo decir que fue una grata sorpresa equivocarme.
Hoy les comentaré mi opinión sobre este (lamentablemente) breve anime, con algunos spoilers.
Saint Seiya or Knights of the Zodiac is one of those animes that I watched when I was little. I found it entertaining but I didn't like it as much as others. I didn't finish it not because it wasn't good, but because there were many others that were more my style than that one. However, a few years ago a friend who loves this anime recommended me to watch the spin off called The Lost Canvas. I didn't think my opinion would change much, but I must say that it was a pleasant surprise to be wrong.
Today I will tell you my opinion on this (unfortunately) short anime, with some spoilers.
Sinopsis | Synopsis
Este shōnen trata de la historia de Tenma, Alone y Sasha, tres niños huérfanos italianos que son los mejores amigos. Sintiendo una conexión especial, casi como si fueran familia, se aseguran de siempre estar juntos. Sin embargo, esto cambió repentinamente un día cuando un caballero llamado Sisifo de Sagitario les explica que Sasha, esa inocente y noble niña que conocen desde hace tanto, en realidad es la encarnación de la diosa Athena. Ella ahora debe irse al Santuario para ser protegida, pero por supuesto esto deja muy tristes a los chicos.
Aunque posteriormente descubrimos que ambos también tienen un destino marcado, pues Tenma se convierte en Santo de Bronce, siendo ahora Tenma de Pegaso; mientras el dulce y calmado Alone fue escogido en el inframundo para ser la reencarnación de Hades. Así cuando éste despierta se da inicio a la nueva Guerra Santa.
This shōnen is about the story of Tenma, Alone, and Sasha, three Italian orphans who are best friends. Feeling a special connection, almost like family, they make sure to always be together. However, this suddenly changed one day when a knight named Sisyphus of Sagittarius explains to them that Sasha, that innocent and noble girl they have known for so long, is actually the incarnation of the goddess Athena. She must now go to the Sanctuary to be protected, but of course this leaves the boys very sad.
Although later we discover that both also have a marked destiny, as Tenma becomes a Bronze Saint, now being Tenma of Pegasus; while the sweet and calm Alone was chosen in the underworld to be the reincarnation of Hades. So when he wakes up, the new Holy War begins.
Ciertamente este anime continúa con la mayoría de aspectos de la trama original, sin embargo, no son exactamente iguales. En este caso la trama es un poco más oscura, pues se presenta la enemistad entre niños que a pesar de ser como hermanos se ven forzados a luchar los unos contra los otros. También las intenciones de Alone o Hades son más abiertamente sanguinarias y retorcidas, con mayor maldad así como sed de sangre. Hasta cierto punto él desea traumatizar a Tenma lo más que pueda, aunque éste intente ver el bien en su amigo, eso ya está perdido.
Puede que esos cambios no sean del agrado de todos los fanáticos más viejos, pero creo que al ser una historia que se ubica en un tiempo diferente el tomarse esas libertades creativas no está mal siempre y cuando sean bien ejecutadas, tal como es en este caso.
This anime certainly continues with most aspects of the original plot, however, they are not exactly the same. In this case the plot is a bit darker, as it presents the enmity between children who, despite being like siblings, are forced to fight against each other. Also, Alone or Hades' intentions are more openly bloodthirsty and twisted, with greater evil as well as bloodlust. To a certain extent he wants to traumatize Tenma as much as he can, and although Tenma tries to see the good in his friend, that is already lost.
These changes may not be to the liking of all older fans, but I think that being a story that is set in a different time, taking these creative liberties is not bad as long as they are well executed, as is the case here.
La trama está bien desarrollada, con una línea de tiempo comprensible, con personajes bien desarrollados cosa que me agrada mucho considerando que es un spin off, porque usualmente en este tipo de historias se da por sentado que el espectador conoce perfectamente la historia de origen, por lo que no suelen explicar demasiado las cosas o motivaciones de los personajes porque "ya los conoces". Pero en este caso se toman el tiempo de desarrollar los personajes y el mundo que los rodea como si fuera la primera vez, lo cual ayuda a enganchar nueva audiencia o a aquellos como yo que no conectaron tanto con el anime original.
Por supuesto hay muchos guiños que pueden pasar desapercibidos si no conoces lo anterior, pero esto no es relevante para comprender la historia.
The plot is well developed, with an understandable timeline, with well-developed characters, which I really like considering it's a spin-off, because usually in these types of stories it's assumed that the viewer knows the origin story perfectly, so they don't usually explain too much about the characters' motivations or almost anything at all because "you already know that". But in this case they take the time to develop the characters and the world around them as if it were the first time, which helps to hook new audiences or those like me who didn't connect as much with the original anime.
Of course there are many references that can go unnoticed if you don't know the previous one, but this is not relevant to understanding the story.
Por supuesto la inspiración en la mitología griega es más que evidente de principio a fin, basando en ello toda la historia y dándole su propia interpretación. A mí me enacnta sobretodo el hecho de hacer que los dos enemigos sean hermanos y no por casualidad, sino por decisión. Esto hace que se explore el tema de los lazos sanguíneos, los afectivos, la influencia de las decisiones y qué es lo que nos hace humanos realmente, así como cuestionar si eso nos hace fuertes o débiles.
También está garantizada la emoción en cada una de las batallas. Son todas tan igualadas que nunca sabes realmente quién ganará, por lo que cada capítulo es súper entretenido de ver, sobretodo los de las peleas de los Caballeros de Oro, los más fuertes de todos.
Of course, the inspiration from Greek mythology is more than evident from beginning to end, basing the entire story on it and giving it its own interpretation. I especially love the fact that the two enemies are siblings, and not by chance, but by choice. This explores the theme of blood ties, emotional ties, the influence of decisions and what really makes us human, as well as questioning whether that makes us strong or weak.
The excitement in each of the battles is also guaranteed. They are all so evenly matched that you never really know who will win, so each chapter is super entertaining to watch, especially the fights of the Golden Knights, the strongest of all.
La combinación entre las batallas emocionantes y las historias tristes con mucha carga de sentimientos hacen que este anime sea entretenido e interesante en todos los sentidos. Es una lástima que su final haya quedado inconcluso pero aún así vale mucho la pena verlo. Yo sinceramente no le encuentro fallas, es realmente un trabajo excelente que le recomendaría a cualquier persona ver.
The combination of exciting battles and sad stories with a lot of feelings make this anime entertaining and interesting in every way. It's a shame that the ending was left unfinished, but it's still worth watching. I honestly can't find any flaws in it, it's really an excellent work that I would recommend anyone to watch.

Muchachonaaa hello 😃, I watched this anime in my old college days but I could not finish watching it even though the story hooked me a lot.... I should have watched the anime instead of going to college Muajjajaa 😂, seriously, if it is an anime that as far as I remember keeps good dynamics and that reminds me of the fact that I have to finish it and of course, I will watch it again from the beginning for more pleasure....

Oh well, I don't know if it was a better idea than college... Probably it was 🤣🤣. It is very exciting and great, it keeps your entertained, also the story is very well written.
Sadly it will remain unfinished, the studio didn't had the enough budget for keeping it going so it was cancelled 😭. But it's worth watching what they did.
Lost Canvas is a miracle of life, I dare to say that I like it much more than the original Saint Seiya, I think the story is more sober and deep, besides, the characters are cooler, all the golden saints have enviable personalities.

I totally agree. It's a way better story than the original, better written and more entertaining. It's a shame they couldn't keep animating it but it's really worth watching what we have.

I didn't know this version existed, the animation looks very different to the one I'm used to see, but it's still nice haha I watched it out of the corner of my eye when I was a child, obviously at that age I didn't understand anything about mythology, I just watched to see haha no doubt an anime that will never be lost in time 👌
It was kind of unpopular for some reason, maybe it was precisely because it's not like the original Saint Seiya and people didn't liked that too much. But I believe (and hope fans won't kill me 😅) that this is a way better story than the other one. With more depth, entertaining and with good animation as a plus.
And like you, when I was young I just watched it because it was cool without having a clue about mythology hahaha
I'll be honest, I saw this anime a while ago and I didn't finish watching it, maybe I should do it to change my opinion a little bit. The thing is that I'm very nostalgic and for me Saint Seiya has no comparison, the years will pass and it will remain a classic hard to match. But well, in the end this is just another opinion hahaha.

Yes, many people find it hard to sympathize with this story because it's nothing like the original and nostalgia plays a strong role on that, but maybe watching it knowing that it won't be the same at all can make you appreciate it more. Although I understand how meaningful the original Saint Seiya can be.

Honestly it is a series that far exceeds the original, the designs if they look like massive armor and not as clothes lycra power ranger, the battles are full of adrenaline and desperation, in this aspect engages much more than the classic series.
It must be said that it is a disappointment that Masami Kurumada took out Next Dimention (and disappointed the public with bad scripts and filler) But being a spin off this series offers much more. Maybe because of creative licenses or problems with the author the thing will stay in We can not encourage more Lost canvas with second season, although when the original author is not the people and the studio will decide what will be canonical and what will be spin off.
I add Next dimention, even if it is by Kurumada it is meaningless filler that does not contribute anything to the point of being something that does not fit as (official continuation) after Hades, so legally we can no longer expect anything from Kurumada since each manga takes him 25 years or more and he has not followed the battle against the next god of Olympus until reaching Zeus, we must take for granted that the spin off will be the continuation of the work when (the publisher gets the rights after the death of the author).

Honestamente es una serie que supera con creces a la original, los diseños si se ven como armaduras macisas y no como ropa de power ranger licrada, las batallas son llenas de adrenalina y desesperacion, en este aspecto engancha muchisimo mas que la serie clasica.
Cabe decir que es una desepcion que Masami Kurumada sacara Next Dimention ( y decepcione al publico con malos guiones y relleno ) Pero al ser un Spin off esta serie ofrece mucho mas. Puede que por licencias creativas o problemas con el autor la cosa se quedara en No podemos animar mas Lost canvas con segunda temporada, aunque ya cuando no este el autor original la gente y el estudio decidirá que sera canonico y que será spin off.
Añado Next dimention por mas que sea de Kurumada es relleno sin sentido que no aporta nada al punto de ser algo que no cuadra como (continuación oficial) luego de Hades, asi que legalmente ya no podemos esperar nada de Kurumada ya que cada manga le toma 25 años o mas y no ha seguido la batalla contra el siguiente dios del olimpo hasta llegar a Zeus, hay que dar por sentado que los spin off seran la continuacion de la obra cuando (la editorial se quede con los derechos luego del deceso del autor).
I very much agree with you. In this work they really did everything much better than in the original, so it will always be a shame that they did not continue it. Although we hope that in the future that will change.
I haven't really seen anything about Next Dimension but from what I've read most people think the same as you, so I honestly don't see myself wasting time watching it. In general, it's a shame.
But at least we have what was achieved with The Lost Canvas which is super enjoyable.

Estoy muy de acuerdo contigo. Realmente en este trabajo hicieron todo muchísimo mejor que en el original, por eso siempre será una lástima que no lo hayan continuado. Aunque esperemos que en un futuro eso cambie.
Realmente no he visto nada de Next Dimension pero por lo que he leído la mayoría opina lo mismo que tú, así que sinceramente no me veo perdiendo tiempo viéndolo. En general, es una lástima.
Pero al menos tenemos lo que se logró hacer con The Lost Canvas lo cual es súper disfrutable.
