Same Route, New Perspective

avatar

A lot is going on at the moment. Lately I have reluctantly been applying for some jobs, realizing it's necessary given my current situation (i.e., I'm still in Stockholm). And last week I got a job offer that I decided to accept. I already start next week so there is not much time left before I'll be way busier...I haven't had a full-time job for almost 7 years...But I think it'll work out. I have felt more inspired lately and hopefully I'll be able to balance everything.

Considering it'll be dark before my workdays are over I wanted to take the opportunity to go for a long walk in daylight yesterday. It was drizzling, but we have a saying here in Sweden that directly translated would be something like:

There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes
(Swedish: Det finns inget dåligt väder, bara dåliga kläder)

Well, to some extent I agree 🙂

I also decided to shift my focus on this walk, you kind of always see all these pictures of water, that must be a bit tiresome by now, haha. I do walk in a city after all, so I turned my phone the other way around and took pictures of buildings instead.

Ok, so this building below is close to where I live. The building itself is rather ugly if you ask me, kind of the only one of its kind in this area. Now it houses hotel apartments. It's always kind of weird energy here.

This is across the street. These kinds of buildings are more common. As you might see there's also a rather nice clock.

IMG_3652.JPG

So here I'll soon start to walk along the water, you might be able to see it in the background. The boule bar is obviously closed for the season. But the restaurant is still open, not this early though (I started my walk around 11 am).

IMG_3653.JPG

Ok, a picture of water, but also a building 🙂 This is a pavilion, a very popular restaurant and bar when it's warmer.

IMG_3654.JPG

Turning around again to take a picture in the opposite direction. I'm not sure what this building is all about, to be honest.

IMG_3655.JPG

So the water is on the right-hand side. And between the gas station and the buildings to the left, there's a street. In the background you also see the tower of the city hall.

IMG_3656.JPG

And now I'm at the city hall 🙂 (Yes I decided to include the trash bin in the picture).

This is a tourist attraction (venue of the Nobel Prize banquet). But it also houses offices for the City Council. You can take a tour of the building. I never have actually...

IMG_3657.JPG

Now I'm on the other side of the building, or kind of 45 degrees from where I was standing in the last picture. I wouldn't normally include the billboard but I wanted to show you something new, perhaps.

IMG_3658.JPG

Now I'm walking in the opposite direction, on my way back home. So still along the water but on the other side of the island (the city center of Stockholm consists of islands to a large extent).

IMG_3659.JPG

One of many bridges in Stockholm.

IMG_3660.JPG

A common architectural style called 'funkis' in Swedish (short for functionalism). Was mainly built in the 1930s.

IMG_3661.JPG

A rather nice building, the Belgian Embassy.

IMG_3662.JPG

I'll finish this walk with a picture that I also would normally take. Kind of flooded here at the moment.

For those of you who have read some of my previous Wednesday Walk posts, hopefully this gave you a somewhat new perspective.

That's interesting. I've never knew Stockholm is arranged that way - in islands. Never been there, probably because of the weather, brrrr 😱🌡️❄️. Still, a pleasant and beautiful walk 😊

I used to get out regularly for morning walks while my wife was still sleeping, but since she fell and broke her shoulder I havent been going out in the mornings, I need to start taking walks in the afternoons

The last picture. It keeps me puzzled about what I see here. Somehow it looks like a big door with the outside of the frame such that it prevents people from swinging around it. But why? Looks like one can just walk around it. I don't see any wall or something. I must not see things as they are in reality ;)

The building in the first one is kinda old school. From the photo, it doesn't look that bad. But maybe in reality it is less nice looking.

NJOY ;)

Haha, yes it's true. It's possible to 'walk' around the door but you would have to get into the water in order to do so. I guess that stops most people. The door leads to a marina. You don't see any boats there now though because of the season.

Lol I am also amazed by the last picture with the door to nowhere haha.

Congrats on the job, wow how do you do this? Did you apply for the job, or it was offered to you?
Lol I am looking for something at the moment, so if you have any tips just go for it 😁

Thank you 🙂 Well, my background makes it rather easy for me to find a (boring) job. But yes, I did apply for the job, I was pretty confident though that they were going to make me an offer. I don't know what kind of job you are looking for? 🙂

Anyway, the plan is to resign as soon as my flat is sold.

Ah that's a good plan, my plan is the opposite, resign when I bought the house. It was kinda of a joke, you can't really help me find a job lol; But thank you I appreciate it!!
