A New Walk And A Bakery

avatar

Even though I live in the countryside now I haven't been on many walks since I got here. I don't know, June was rather hot and sunny here in Sweden and it didn't feel so relaxing to go for a walk. But I guess the main reason is because I spend so much time outdoors nowadays anyway, doing different practical and physical work. But lately I have started to feel that it would be good to go for more walks. Also, the weather has changed. It has been raining a lot lately (which was very much needed) and now it's more like a 'normal' Swedish summer, i.e., cloudy with wind and sunny intervals, and not so hot (only around 20 degrees Celsius at the moment).

So I felt it's time for a Wednesday Walk post 🙂 (If you would like to read more of a general update from me you can read my previous post A Kind Of General Update - Where To Go From Here?).

Even though my closest surroundings are familiar to me I haven't been out exploring a lot. So I don't actually know the best places for a walk. But yesterday I decided to drive a couple of kilometers to a place that's very popular now in summer. I could probably write a separate post about this place, but there are so many tourists there now so I didn't want to hang around there too long (there are some shops, a popular café serving mainly waffles, and a newly opened sourdough bakery). I just parked there and started to walk along a road (picture above).

I'd had a look at Google Maps beforehand so I knew there would be some road to follow but I expected to walk in the forest, not on asphalt and passing by houses and stuff. (You don't really see the houses in the pictures haha).

But it was rather nice anyway. After some time I started to follow a dirt road instead.

The big plant in the front is an invasive species, not sure what it's called. The rest of the white plants are called meadowsweet. They flower a bit later in the season here in Sweden, i.e. now 🙂

But of course, it wouldn't be a proper walk in the Swedish countryside without a lake!

I was actually hoping to be able to walk in a loop but that didn't really work out so I had to turn around at some point and walk the same way back. But for the very last bit, I found a smaller road (see below).

Here I'm back where I parked the car and I decided to check out the bakery. I bought sourdough bread with walnuts, very expensive but that's ok if it's really good. (That's one of the few things I miss about Stockholm, my favorite sourdough bread). The bread was still warm so really fresh. The sourdough bakery is a nice initiative but things like these tend to not last long out in the countryside, at least not in Sweden. In summer, for sure, but for the rest of the year, no. And I'm not so sure the majority of people who lives here permanently are so into expensive sourdough bread. They are more traditional with their food so to say. But anyway, the bread was good, not my new favorite but I appreciate having this option so close by because it's much better than the bread from the supermarket for sure. Now, I don't even eat so much bread so I don't know why I share so much about it, haha.

Anyway, it was nice to get out and see something new, this was a new walk for me. I don't know, I might have walked about 6 kilometers or so. Hope to share more walks soon 🙂

I miss summers in Scandinavia, sometimes; many fond memories of those long summer nights, holidays at my Aunt's summerhouse on the coast north of Copenhagen.

That plant with the white flowers we had around where I grew up. We were always told to stay away from it because the sap could give a very bad rash on the skin.

Ah yes I understand, it's really special, the long summer nights here. I don't complain 🙂

That doesn't surprise me about the plant, it kind of looks a bit aggressive I suppose.

Raining in Sweden is normal but in my country raining causes floods. Ohhh

Oh I'm so happy to read you have moved. My time can be so sporadic on here, so I don't always get to catch up.
I'm a wee bit envious of your cooler climate as it's rarely gone below 38 here the last few days.
Sending you a hug and looking forward to more posts about where you are now living xxxxx

No worries, I had quite a long break from Hive so I haven't posted much lately. Yes I'm very happy to have left Stockholm 🙂

I thought I would be traveling in Europe this summer but I'm just content here, for now at least. And the heat in Southern Europe isn't that appealing, to be honest. I'll probably travel a bit in September instead.

I hope you are doing well despite the heat. Sending a hug from Sweden 🙂

Those landscapes are wonderful! Seeing the pictures makes me wish I lived a bit closer to the countryside, I've always lived in the city. Glad to have you back here, dear!

Thank you, I'm lucky to have so beautiful surroundings 🙂

It's hard for me to imagine always having lived in a city. Even though I have spent my whole adult life (up until now then, haha) in a city I grew up in the countryside, not far from where I'm not staying.

The meadow plants are just so beautiful. Everything is alive and buzzing, I imagine. What a stunning place.
