A Long(ish) Sunday Walk in Stockholm
It's been raining a lot here in Stockholm lately. So in a way, not much of a winter at the moment. It's dark and wet. But last Sunday, the sun was peeking out, at least for a short time. It was a lovely day for a longish walk (about 1 1/2 hours).
First I was passing through a nice allotment area close to where I live. No one is there this time of the year, but in summer it's really nice to see everything that grows there.
A friend of mine lives in one of the buildings across the water. All the boats are gone. As you can see the water isn't frozen, it hasn't been that cold lately.
I was walking along the water most of the time. But not crossing any bridges on this walk 🙂
Here you can see the sunlight coming in from the left side. Then it suddenly disappeared again.
The same bridge as in the picture above, just a different perspective.
As you can see, it was rather wet outside.
A few rosehips on this bush.
Here I turned around and took a picture.
As always, a lot of construction going on in Stockholm. I hadn't seen this before, not sure what they are doing here.
This might look rather peaceful but the bridge you are seeing in the picture below is actually a highway with a lot of traffic. This has been investigated for decades and a new route, called The Stockholm bypass, is currently being built west of the city center. The project will take approximately 15 years to finish and to reduce the impact on sensitive natural and cultural environments (this has been debated a lot), just over 18 kilometers of the total 21 kilometers of the link are in tunnels. When the link opens for traffic it will be one of the longest road tunnels in the world. Source
Now the highway bridge is behind me and here you don't hear the traffic so much.
Here I'm close to home and all of a sudden it cleared up.
I really do my best to go for a walk every day, even if it's a short one. It's so important to get some fresh air and catch some daylight. Yes, the days are getting longer here again, but still, it's dark around 3.30 pm.

Lovely walk taking in fresh air and surroundings, definitely not a cold winter for the Northern countries.
City is sprawled out giving one grand opportunities to enjoy green space away from the buildings, lovely view of the bridge even if it is too busy with traffic.

That's true, Stockholm actually has a lot of green areas and nature here is very accessible. One of the things I like about this city after all.
And yes, not too cold here. I can't complain 🙂
Enjoy your mild winter, perhaps the colder weather arrives toward end of season, still good walking weather no matter the weather when cold.
Yes, still time for colder weather to arrive, for sure. It was colder for some weeks back in December actually. And we also had quite a lot of snow back then.

A lovely long walk, such a beautiful area, by the water Love the light and all the cool bridges
Thanks for joining the Wednesday, its always fun for me to visit the walks from all around the world, getting a feel for communities where people live and what they see on their daily walks
Thank you, it's easy to feel a bit 'blind' when it comes to your close surroundings, but yes, I do my best to appreciate this beautiful city 🙂 (Even in winter, haha).
I know in winter its harder to appreciate a place lOl
but Like you I love walking different routes and exploring new areas
Wow it's dark around 330? crazy!
I guess you are way up north, so it makes sense. Random thought, have you ever eaten rosehips?
Haha, yes, I guess it's closer to 4 pm now actually, but still...it's pretty dark here this time of the year. What people not from here tend to forget though is that it's so light here in summer. Only dark for a couple of hours in the middle of the night. Kind of hard to sleep, haha.
Yes, I have eaten rosehips many times. In Sweden, we have a traditional dish, called rosehip soup, which is like a sweet soup, so it's more of a dessert.
This is from Wikipedia:
I have many childhood memories of this soup. It's not as common anymore though but still something you find readymade in every supermarket.
Wow!!! Rosehips soup!!! That sounds so interesting!
Nyponsoppa sounds more like a Japanese soup ^^
Haha
