Conociendo el Pueblo de Fuentidueño 🏞️// Knowing the Town of Fuentidueño 🏞️
Hello everyone here! Blessed day 💫 Today I want to tell you about and show you photos of the town of Fuentidueño, a town at the foot of the mountain on Margarita Island. Many believe that because it is an island all the sun and beach, but there are beautiful corners with a lot of history, traditions and different landscapes.
Fuentidueño is part of the Valley of San Juan Bautista, it is the upper part of the mountain, the last place inhabited by its inhabitants. It is very famous and known for its rivers and pools that overflow when it rains and both locals and visitors enjoy bathing in all these pools of fresh water that come down from the mountain. In Margarita it does not rain all year round, so the rainy time is well used. In the past few days it has rained "more or less" so, passing near there, we decided to go up so that Marcela and Miranda could get to know the place and could see something of this landscape so different from what they are used to.
You go up to the town by a narrow street and you park in any possible place because as soon as you start going up, you can notice the waterfalls everywhere. As the riverbed is very low there were not many people bathing but there were washing the cars (obviously I did not take photos of them) and it is that this town does not get water through pipes like any other town. Its inhabitants have had to manage and invest in their own system to supply themselves with water and it is through those black tubes that are seen behind the photos that seem to be in the air. From a distance it looks like electricity, but the truth is that each family has its water intake directly from the springs in the mountains. Each family had to do this by themselves since they do not have any institutional help, thank God they told me that they do not lack water but, can you imagine?
But in another area of the town, where the main river is, you can see that the water hasn't run for a long time. It is a very nice place with a colonial air. It is extremely clean, tidy, well painted and with many fruit trees and flowers. Besides that you feel the freshness of the mountain, a total delight. Marcela and Miranda were excited and everything was dry out there, imagine if you saw the river running in all its splendor.
One of the most striking things for us was this tree that must be a good number of years old and shades a good amount of space. For the girls it was incredible to see one so big so they ran to hug it and see if it was real. I think it is an oak tree and around it there are benches and stones placed so that its people sit under its shade.
The town of Fuentidueño is quite small, three streets at most, it has a church where San Isidro Labrador is venerated, a small square and a sports field. It also has some shops and a public elementary school towards the exit. Everything is colorful, pretty and fresh. In the mornings you can find vendors of local fruits such as medlar, coconut, dates, and traditional sweets such as piñonate, dulce de leche, mango jelly and others. Many of those artisans live here who make sweets and weave crinejas for bags, hats and others.
We walked to go around the whole place and before reaching the car we made a stop to "test the water" if only with our feet. Marcela was not encouraged so she played with her hands, stones and sticks. I relaxed for a while and let them do the test by themselves and see how far they could go. At the time they took off their shoes and laughed until they could not because that was new for them. In addition, they asked me in amazement, "Mommy, do you really give me permission to take off my shoes and put my feet in?"
And when I realized it, Miranda had even taken off her pants 😂 but hey, I let them experiment and enjoy for a while nature and the beauty that it hides in those little places that we often don't look at carefully. Family photo and it's time to go.
Thank you for accompanying me on this walk to the town of Fuentidueño, a beautiful place, full of nature, landscapes, traditions and stories. A place that is worth visiting even if it is just for a little while, because it will make you smile and make you feel that you are blessed and lucky every day. We read soon.
