About the Quote
No matter how much we prepare for something-- business, academics, investing, etc.-- there comes a time to execute. Some people jump feet first into a task. Others plan their start methodically before they begin. Yet others talk and plan and plan and talk until they get afflicted with paralysis by analysis.
No one wants to go into a situation blind with no idea, so it's OK to take time to plan ahead and consider all relevant factors before embarking on a new endeavor. However, sooner or later the time to plan must end and the time to carry out the plan must arrive.
If we keep talking about what we want to do, or if we keep planning and trying make the plan "perfect," that can lead to procrastination. Procrastination itself doesn't help when it comes to getting things done because it encourages us to make excuses for not starting. This makes it easier for fear to infect us and keep us from beginning. Sooner or later we have to act, and acting only gets more difficult when it's done later.
Some (More) Information about Walt Disney
When Walt Disney was a youth living in Kansas City, Missouri, US, he took a correspondence school course in cartoon drawing and design. As an older student, he attended the Kansas City Art Institute and School of Design to continue his studies in this field.
In 1917 the family moved back to Chicago, Illinois, US, where Walt Disney enrolled in McKinley High School. At the high school he took photographs and made drawings for the high school newspaper. Disney was optimistic that he would land a job as a cartoonist with a newspaper, so on the side he continued to study cartoon art.
It was at this time that his studies were interrupted by the United States' entry into The Great War (as World War One was known at the time). He served as an ambulance driver for the American Red Cross in both France and Germany.
In 1919, Walt Disney returned to Kansas City. There he found recurring employment as a draftsman and asn an inker for commercial art studios. While working at one of those jobs, Disney met a young artist named Ub Iwerks. The early success Disney would have as a cartoon artist would be due in part to his work with Ub Iwerks.
