Interview Q/A

Here is the detailed interview with @kenechukwu97, where he shares insights into his journey on Hive, his thoughts on content creation, and his vision for the future.

20240330_221802.jpg

Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you first discovered Hive?*

20240330_221802.jpg

I am Kenechukwu, a Nigerian who decided to step away from the banking sector and fully build on Web3. I first got into Web3 through a tokenized platform that was built on Ethereum. The platform, just like most other Web3 projects we see in this day and time, would be best described as a Web2.5 platform. But, for someone like myself who was new to the Web3 space, I lacked the skills to notice that.

Activities on the platform were tokenized. The token used in the platform was built on Ethereum. The founder gained the trust of the community and just when we thought we were all-in for the long-term, he rugged the project and dumped the token on everyone. So, my first experience in Web3 wasn't exactly inspiring.

However, the awesome community I connected with in that rugged project gave me the information that made it possible for me to know about the existence of an ecosystem like Hive.As you would expect, I didn't want to be rugged back to back. So, I was very careful when I got into Hive. I did my research before signing up. I finally decided to create an account and publish my introductory post, and it has been an interesting adventure since then.

20240330_221802.jpg

You've been on Hive since 2020. How has your content evolved over the years?

20240330_221802.jpg

Before joining Hive, I was not too sure of my competence as a writer. I wasn't one of those folks who had a Content Writing history before transitioning into the Blockchain. The only forms of writing I ever did were "writing to pass my exams" and "writing as a form of interaction." So, knowing that there's a platform where I could monetize my writing was an interesting discovery.

A part of me felt like I wasn't doing nearly enough whenever I drafted a post. I was always in the habit of reading and proofreading my work repeatedly before clicking the publish button. It's been years already, and I'm still like that. Even when I'm in DM with anyone, I proofread my text before sending it.

The thing that has evolved about my Content is the fact that I've become very convinced about my competence as a content writer. In addition to being a content writer, I have also explored Video making and podcasting, and I currently run a live Web3 series on X.

20240330_221802.jpg

What types of content do you most enjoy creating, and why?

20240330_221802.jpg

I got into Content Creation hearing so much about quality over quantity. With that in mind, one thing I always try to achieve with any content I publish anywhere is to make sure the content is a valuable one. Of course, "value" is subjective. However, I always start by making sure that the content I put out won't be a waste of time to anyone who reads it.

I write about Personal Development, Finance, Web3, Humanities, Lifestyle, Sports, and TV shows. Most recently, my writing outside Hive has been focused on helping Web3 projects build their brand and promote what they do in the space.I enjoy writing about those because my life mostly revolves around them.

My writing is an expression of the life I live, the life I wouldn't want to live, and my stance on several things happening in the Web2/Web3 society. There are moments when I push hard with my content in ways that may be offensive. But, at the very least, I don't lie about anything I publish on my page.

20240330_221802.jpg

Could you share some of the challenges you've faced as a content creator on Hive and how you overcame them?

20240330_221802.jpg

Since Hive is predominantly a hub of Content Creators, I'm sure that anyone who genuinely drafts his/her content would want that content to be seen by as many eyes as possible. We, as content creators, also want to get people's feedback on any work we put up.

I'm not exactly sure of the stats, but the most engaging content on Hive would best be judged by the number of original comments it got.

How many is that number? 1k comments? That's hardly the case in my experience. I don't see a lot of posts that have 100 original comments. So, the general issue of low engagement is one that most Creators deal with on Hive. When people complain about low engagement, a lot of folks get redirected to engage with other people's content.

That's a fair advice. However, you can do a quick test. - Account A doesn't engage with others and has a Voting power that's worth $10 for 10% vote.- Account B engages actively and has a Voting power that's worth $0.01 for 100%.Anyone who has been here long enough will surely know that Account A can post "Good Morning" with a picture and get more engagement than whatever Account B posts. This is exactly what content creators deal with on Hive.In my case, I understand this. So, I don't beat myself up about it. But it has to be said so anyone that's yet to figure it out would know. Low engagement on your Hive post doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the quality of your post. Know that and have peace.

20240330_221802.jpg

Are you involved in any projects/communities, please tell us about them?

20240330_221802.jpg

Yeah. I've been building with DreemPort since its ideation stage, and I've seen it grow from being a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) to what it is at the moment. For the record, anyone who's struggling with engagement on his/her content can leverage DreemPort to gain more exposure from readers who are reading from several areas of the internet.I'm involved with some other projects on Hive and across other Web3 areas. For example, I'm on the founding team of the very first edition of Web3ArtistsAwards, which will be hosted this December in Nashville, Tennessee.

Anyone that wants to stay up-to-date with that can keep tabs on my X account, Kene_Valentine.

20240330_221802.jpg

Your blog mentions that you're focused on learning and growing. What are some of the key lessons you've learned from being a part of Hive?

20240330_221802.jpg

Being on Hive helped me to learn so much about the importance of Community. I identify with a few communities on Hive and I know I give my best in those communities. Additionally, I learned a lot of skills which has helped me to transition into professional Content Writing, Community Building, Community Moderation, Spokesperson, and Project Advisor for Web3 projects.

I've been a Hive Maxi since I joined and just a month ago, I decided to look into what's happening in other chains and Web3 communities. This made me realize that what I learned about Web3 by being on Hive is not nearly enough for someone like myself who's interested in learning, sharing, and growing. So, another important lesson that took too long for me to learn is that I really should have been more adventurous in my Web3 journey.

20240330_221802.jpg

As a Nigerian, how do you see the Hive platform influencing or benefiting the Nigerian community?

20240330_221802.jpg

I would say the influence or benefit the Hive platform is having on the Nigerian Community isn't or shouldn't be any different from what's happening with the Spanish community, Venezuelan community, or even the Pakistan Community on Hive. I wish @nonsowrites, who's the 001 of Hive Naija, would have a say in this. He's the one I see as the arrowhead of the Nigerian Community on Hive.

Hive, on the other way round, gets a huge benefit from the Nigerian Community. The number of Nigerians who are actively interacting on the chain is mind-blowing, and I dare to say that Nigerians on the chain contribute so much to the activeness of the Blockchain. We obviously don't have high stakes and the reason for that is fairly obvious. But we complement that with our active on-chain interaction.I mean, check Hive Pakistan, Hive Ghana, and even Hive Argentina. Do you know the number of Nigerians that also publish their content in those Communities? Haha.

By the way, I think I flipped the question. Sorry about that.

20240330_221802.jpg

Are there any unique challenges or opportunities you’ve observed for Nigerian Hivers?

20240330_221802.jpg

The Unique challenges we face are ultimately due to the fact that many Nigerians can't afford to increase their stakes in Hive (HP). The world economy isn't looking good, but for Nigeria, it hasn't looked good for over two decades. So, we are stuck in situations where most Nigerians have to survive with their Hive earnings even when they know that staking it and holding it for a long time is more beneficial.

The Unique opportunities we have is actually a sad reality and it ties to the thing I highlighted previously. Many of us wouldn't have a problem jumping into Moderation roles for the Discord/Telegram channel of Hive projects even when we are being paid nothing. Some also ghostwrite for the project's main accounts. These projects know they are filling roles that would normally cost 💲💲💲 per month. However... It is what it is.

20240330_221802.jpg

What advice would you give to new users who are looking to make a positive impact on Hive?

20240330_221802.jpg

I will keep it simple;

  • Don't be one of those who sulk up to people just because you want to get a $1 vote from them.

  • Don't frequently comment on the post of someone who doesn't take the time to reply to your comment. If you are a "Nice Post" commenter, this advice isn't for you.

  • If you have 500HP (for example), don't give 400HP away as a delegation to a bigger account. Instead, use that to support the people you interact with. That's how you make a genuine impact.

  • Write quality posts only. It's not compulsory to publish daily. So, if you know you are too busy, just stay away and read other people's work. That's so much better than spamming your profile with an AI-generated post, a Plagiarized post, or some low-effort gibberish 😎.

  • This may be uncomfortable for you, but step out of your comfort zone and interact with other chains too. Learn Defi. Run Testnets. Participate in decent Airdrops. Explore Web3 jobs. If you have the heart, mess around with memecoins too.

The lessons you will learn by doing all these over time will make it so much easier to appreciate what you could potentially build on Hive.

20240330_221802.jpg

What are your future plans for your Hive journey? Are there any new projects or content types you're excited to explore?

20240330_221802.jpg

My plans for Hive has always been long-term. At the moment, I don't plan to do too much on Hive. My Hive account is here to stay and it's something I will grow massively once I sort out the things I'm currently getting into. So, my present is targeted at learning a lot more about Defi, Testnets, learning more about trading, and Web3 as a whole.

I started using Dexscreener recently and I messed around with some Solana trading bots on Telegram. I also got to understand the shady stuff happening with Pump.fun token creators.I'm also growing my socials (X and LinkedIn) which I recently rebranded to match my long-term plan as a key player in the Web3 space. My branding is yielding inspiring results in some areas. I'm getting more exposure to Web3 projects, builders, Devs, enthusiasts, KOLs, etc.I will be sharing some of the things I learn with y'all on Hive.

The Web3 X space series I run on Tuesdays and Fridays is also there for you to join, share what you know and learn from other Web3 folks. The reputation and community I'm building away from Hive could be explored by Hive as a Blockchain for marketing/promotion purposes. So, I'm open for that collaboration.

Special regards to you, @madilyn02, for this discussion. Thanks to the special lady that recommended me for this. My regards to everyone that's doing honest and respectable work on Hive.

Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop or Comma.
