Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you discovered the Hive platform?
I was bored one day doing some research, and started Googling about some social web-sites to see what was out there, and I came onto Hive. I got the pertinent info to join, and went there and registered an account. It took me two weeks to get the account, and then I just let it sit basically 3 months before I did anything with it.
What inspired you to get involved in the HeyHaveYaMet project, and what role do you play within the project?
In November of 2018, I entered a coloring contest and I'm not sure how I met them, but I met @dreemsteem and @xcountyexplorers(Scott and Ren), and they had been operating the heyhaveyamet project on their own blog. But for some reason, dreemsteem felt that I would be a good fit for Welcome Wagon, a project she and @bluefinstudios had started. And Ren had been through there just before me, and so I decided to take a chance because I was in a learning mode big time out of curiosity. At some point, I saw that Ren was working hard, and I volunteered to help her with the posts, and she agreed to it. It was funny, because I hesitated when I first started doing it, and Ren even said she would have @wesphilbin help me if I needed it, but I (egotistically) said no, I would be okay
once I did a few, and we took off. It was through Ren and her server that I met Miss Kitty and Britt, and Britt and I would continue to work together on the Hey! Have Ya Met...? project.
@brittandjosie picks them out for me, and I work them out graphically. It's fun, not really profitable, as we pick the lowest rewards ones that are underappreciated, and try to give them more exposure.
How do you approach helping and guiding newcomers on Hive, and what advice would you give to someone just starting out on the platform?
Usually I give a seven point suggestions list to each and every new Hivean I do a workup for. Also, they come into the Terminal for learning as well, well, some do, but a few just come in to just drop a post and never come back. The best advice you can give a new Hivean is to engage with others, and a good start is to respond with a decent reply to comments on their intro posts. Then go to some communities that they might have an interest in, and read some quality posts, give a good heartfelt comment, and an upvote a follow if the author is cool. The key is engagement.
What motivated you to become involved in the Ladies of Hive community?
I really didn't even know it was around for a long time, I think a contest had come up or something, and @thekittygirl is an admin there ( the head moongoddess hahaha ) and for
some reason, just wound up going there.
What kind of posts do you enjoy reading and engaging with the most on hive?
I enjoy reading some of the intros that I have come across, and when I judged the contests, there were some pretty good posts. I lot of those ladies are professional writers, to me, even though most are not, but I guess I could call quite a few professional bloggers. But I enjoy reading many different genres as a general rule. The only ones I really don't care for are the financial technical ones, to me they are boring.
Have you encountered any significant challenges on hive and how have you overcome them?
Not really, got writer's block about 99% of the time, it takes me a long time to make a post. I don't know of many real challenges, except possibly the one thing that got me was when the new Hiveans got downvoted, with no explanation and no apparent reason, and no correction. A lot of them just got up and abandoned their accounts and never came back. I know a couple that happened to, and even though I am in contact with them, and they told me they will be back, I'm not going to hold my breath. Some of them absolutely do get nailed, and deservingly, when they get one account blacklisted and then just open another account. I try to weed out the rotten apples, but some do slip through the cracks. The other challenge is when they get downvoted just because they got upvoted by someone that the downvoter doesn't like, and they have a war and they don't seem to care much who is in the crossfire.
What is the part of hive that you enjoy the most? Engagement, rewards, meeting new people or any other?
I like meeting a few people, here and there, there have been some that have come into the Terminal, and turned out to be really cool people. I do engage occasionally, but in all fairness, not that often.
What projects or initiatives on hive do you find most appealing?
The ones that stand out besides @brittandjosie and my own ( Hey! Have Ya Met...?) are the Thoughtful Daily Post initiative and community founded by @wesphilbin. That seems to be a solid community, and Wes is dedicated to taking care of it even when he's down and has his challenges. One of the others is the contest run by Ladies of Hive, that brings a lot of women together to help support each other, and provides a little bit of a competitiive atmosphere.
Is there any positive message you'd like to share with the hive community?
Engage positively with one another, with thoughtful comments, upvotes, and follows with like minded people. If there are some posts you don't agree with, move on.
Finally is there anyone else you suggest should be interviewed here?
I might suggest @wesphilbin as a possibility
Thank you so much @jamerussell for the honor of this interview, we're so glad to have you in the spotlight and truly inspired by all that you shared with us.
Below are the seven point suggestions that jamerussell always leaves in the newcomers posts:
- Guard your passwords carefully, and only publish with the posting key,
- Use your active key only for wallet transactions, Keychain, Peaklock, and Hivesigner,
- The master password and the owner key are only used to reset compromised passwords,
- DO NOT lose your password or keys; copy and store offline,
- Do not publish other people's work, be it photos or written, without credit, and be sure to source all of your work, even if it is your own.
- An introduceyourself tag is used only once , and
- DO NOT OPEN any links in memos or comments that you do not know who they belong to. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is, so the old saying goes. There is nothing free here.
Thank you @brisby for the suggestion. Thank you @thekittygirl for all your support. I also thank everyone who has supported me as well π
