Postcards Collection From Poland to Italy

Hello, everyone. This is my first post in the community, and I want to show off some of my collections.

Other than collecting physical currencies like paper banknotes and coins from around the globe, I also love collecting postcards. I'd have many more stories about all the coins I've collected because I've been collecting them since I was a kid. For now, let's talk about my small but cherished collection of postcards.

I became interested in collecting postcards because, back in my university days, around 2015, snail mail was still quite popular. I heard people online doing post-crossing, and it was something fun to do.

So, I joined the fun and ended up collecting postcards from Poland and Italy to neighboring countries like Malaysia. While I have no ambitious goals around it, these days, whenever I travel, I try to get a postcard from the countries/cities I visited.

I took all these pictures when I moved out of my apartment, and I was just reminded how time flies. Each of these postcards has its own story. So, let's start out exploring them, shall we?

The first postcard is from Poland. It's a postcard I got from a snail-mail friend I had back in the day. I think it was 2015-ish when I first got a postcard. We became close friends and traveled together back in 2018. Since then, we have continued exchanging letters and emails. That led us to these two other postcards; if I am not mistaken, they are from Ukraine. My friend was traveling around the world at the time and sent me these postcards. He now lives in the UK and hasn't heard from him since last year.

The third one is from Italy, which I got around 2017. I came to know this Italian girl from an ex of mine. She also loved snail mailing, and you know, I was skeptical about the Indonesian postal service, but guess what? She received my postcards, and I received hers. She sent me twice during Christmas, but I might have lost the other one. I still have her address and wanted to send her a postcard this Christmas.

The fourth one is from my Malaysian friend, whom I got to meet quite in odd ways. When we became friends, I introduced her to this world and I got her postcard, and it had cute written greetings on it. It was really sweet. I met this girl because she was the girlfriend of my friend that I met randomly while I was traveling in Malaysia, Somehow this girl and I are like sisters now 🤣 and she broke up with the guy. Just around 4 years ago, she traveled to Indonesia and we had fun! I haven't gone back to Malaysia despite planning too. I guess time isn't just right haha but soon I'll get back there.

The last one is a postcard I bought in Laos. I was visiting a museum that raises awareness of bombing survivors. The COPE center is definitely a must-visit if you travel to Laos. They support rehabilitation and facilitate prosthetic legs for the bombing survivors. FYI, the bombing is still ongoing because during the Vietnam War, The Americans sort of just dropped the bomb all around it. So, when people go around the place mostly forest where it's not cleared out, they casually encounter this. Even young children sometimes play with small bombs cause it looks like a ball. It's bad but the war legacy lives on.

Last year, I regretted not buying the thailand postcard but given that I am returning next year, I definitely won't forget getting it this time.

For some, postcards may just be a piece of paper, but to me, they carry value and stories that I cherish.

Through postcrossing and my small postcard collection, I learned how the mail system operates. I've sent postcards to the USA, Poland, Italy, France, and several other countries that might slip my mind.

That hobby back in the day, made me a frequent visitor to the post-office and I learned the rope of worldwide shipping that led me into import-export side hustle. It's always interesting when my hobby led me to something fun and challenging.

Do you also collect postcards and have fun stories about them?

Post cards....

It's been so long since I heard the term.
The posting agency in my country isn't something I've ever experienced so I've heard but haven't actually seen letters and/or mails.

I would check if they're active though... Lovely post ✨

Que pasatiempo tan interesante, aunque en estos momentos es bastante extraño el envió de postales ya que la tecnología nos invadió por completo, es muy gratificante que aun mantengas esa manera de comunicación con los demás , buena idea

Ow, @macchiata , welcome to the Hive Collectors community. Pleased to see your post with this collection of postcards and the stories behind them. Hahaha, so funny the stories about the ex boyfriends but the friendship with the girls and mailing postcards thing won!! 👏

Of course, sent and received postcards are not just piece of paper! I recently moved, but one of the boxes that came with us is labeled : POSTCARDS

P.S. I am not advertising the brand of the shoes 😂😂😂, it just happened that I packed all my postcards here.

Looking forward to seeing your coin collection too. 😀

😅 I had so many encounters like that and it's always funny how it led me to stuff like this. Do you have postcard from Indonesia?

😁 I need to start taking pictures of my coins and share them here hehe

Hmm, no, I don't have any from Indonesia. All of them came from here, from different countries of Europe, but I do have one from Asia, from Taiwan (got it from LUT) in her initiative

Perhaps for some people, talking about postcards is like going back in time, but beyond marking an era, it also allows us to mark those experiences in a special way. In fact, I think they are treasured in a different way 🥰.

I love all the post cards you collected Ma'am @macchiata they are all beautiful.
I have not tried to travel outside the country. However, every time I visit different Islands in my country, I often collect refrigerator magnets and t-shirts. 😊

Why didn't you join my postcard initiative the other year? Would have loved to send you one from Taiwan. I didn't have any requests from Indonesia

So much beauty in the postcards! I love the variety and the colours, as well as the places... but she really caught my attention, I still don't know why but I love her!
