aespa first mini album "Savage" Review [ENG/ESP]
A casi un año de su debut, el grupo femenino sur coreano aespa ha lanzado su exitoso primer mini álbum que actualmente se encuentra arrasando en los charts coreanos de música, y como buena MY(nombre oficial del fandom de aespa) que soy, ya me he escuchado a detalle las 6 canciones que conforman el nuevo lanzamiento de las chicas, por lo que el día de hoy les compartiré un poco de información sobre las canciones y mi opinión de algunas de ellas
Almost a year after their debut, the South Korean girl group aespa has released their successful first mini album that is currently hitting the Korean music charts, and as the good MY (official name of aespa's fandom) that I am, I've already listened in detail to the 6 songs that make up the new release of the girls, so today I will share with you some information about the songs and my opinion of some of them.
La primera canción titulada aenergy no solo es una acertada introducción al resto de canciones del mini álbum si no que también nos introduce al universo que el propio grupo ha creado, a lo largo de la letra podremos escuchar algunas terminologías usadas en la historia de aespa desde su debut, así como también nos habla de su villano principal, aliados, y el rol de cada miembro en este mundo ficticio
The first song entitled aenergy is not only a successful introduction to the rest of the songs on the mini album but also introduces us to the universe that the group itself has created, throughout the lyrics we can hear some terminology used in the history of aespa since its debut, as well as tells us about its main villain, allies, and the role of each member in this fictional world.
Savage es la canción principal de este mini álbum y su tercer canción promocional desde su debut, la cual se describe como “una canción trap con la batería y el bajo como foco principal” en donde el rap y la parte vocal tienen un rol más importante que en sus lanzamientos pasados. Esta canción es la continuación a su historia en el “SM Culture Universe” ya vista en sus canciones y MV’s de “Black Mamba” y “Next Level” en donde continúan en su lucha contra la mamba negra, el villano principal de las chicas y sus respectivas ae’s , en donde también se hace mención de Naevis, su aliada en las batallas
Savage is the title track of this mini album and their third promotional song since their debut, which is described as "a trap song with drums and bass as the main focus" where rap and vocals play a bigger role than in their past releases. This song is the continuation of their story in the "SM Culture Universe" already seen in their songs and MV's "Black Mamba" and "Next Level" where they continue their fight against the black mamba, the main villain of the girls and their respective ae's, where Naevis, their ally in the battles, is also mentioned.
Si bien hay algunos espacios a lo largo de la canción que se sienten un poco vacíos, en lo personal disfrute tanto la canción como el vídeo musical, a pesar de tener un concepto en especifico, nos muestra como las chicas de aespa no dejan de sorprender con cada nuevo lanzamiento con ritmos únicos y experimentales, pero sobre todo, adictivos que solo ellas podrían hacer funcionar
While there are some spaces throughout the song that feel a little empty, I personally enjoyed both the song and the music video, despite having a specific concept, it shows us how the aespa girls never cease to surprise with each new release with unique and experimental rhythms, but above all, addictive that only they could make it work.
La tercera pista del álbum lleva por nombre “i’ll make you cry” a la cual se la describe como “una canción de baile con un ritmo único y un sonido sintetizador llamativo” a partir de aquí las letras del álbum se desprenden un poco de toda la historia del SM Culture Universe, pero aun manteniendo el concepto empoderado de aespa. En lo personal esta pista se me asimila al de un sound track de algún videojuego de acción, no tengo una canción en específico en mente para hacer comparación pero definitivamente es una excelente adición a la discografía de aespa debido a todo el estilo “futurístico” y de “sci-fi” que manejan las chicas
The third track of the album is called "i'll make you cry" which is described as "a dance song with a unique rhythm and a flashy synth sound" from here on the lyrics of the album are a bit detached from the whole history of SM Culture Universe, but still keeping the empowering concept of aespa. Personally this track sounds like an action video game soundtrack to me, I don't have a specific song in mind to make a comparison but it's definitely an excellent addition to aespa's discography because of all the "futuristic" and "sci-fi" style the girls manage to pull off.
Seguimos con "Yeppi Yeppi", una canción con una energía poderosa que nos promete diversión con “un mensaje positivo”, la letra nos muestra a las chicas irradiando seguridad en sí mismas sin importar lo que opinen los demás, en lo personal fue la única canción que me desconecto momentáneamente del álbum pero aun así fue capaz de hacerme sentir en un ambiente agradable lleno de juventud
We continue with "Yeppi Yeppi", a song with a powerful energy that promises fun with "a positive message", the lyrics show the girls radiating self-confidence no matter what others think, personally it was the only song that disconnected me momentarily from the album but still was able to make me feel in a pleasant atmosphere full of youth.
Ya casi llegando al final del EP, tenemos “ICONIC” cuya letra tiene un contexto más romántico y pícaro y descrita como “una canción de baile energética”, vemos como la música se vuelve un poco más suave en comparación a las canciones anteriores más fuertes, esta canción vendría siendo el puente del álbum siendo la transición a la última pista del EP
Nearing the end of the EP, we have "ICONIC" whose lyrics have a more romantic and mischievous context and described as "an energetic dance song", we see how the music becomes a little softer in comparison to the previous stronger songs, this song would be the bridge of the album being the transition to the last track of the EP.
Finalmente tenemos a la última canción “Lucid Dream” Con una letra que nos relata el cómo se siente el caer en un amor profundo, y con un ritmo más suave y sentimental, nos permite cerrar los ojos y relajarnos luego de una experiencia llena de acción y emociones por las que nos ha arrastrado este mini álbum
Finally we have the last song "Lucid Dream" With lyrics that tell us how it feels to fall in deep love, and with a softer and more sentimental rhythm, it allows us to close our eyes and relax after an experience full of action and emotions that this mini album has dragged us through.
Mi manera de describir el álbum de Savage es como una aventura a la cual las miembros de aespa nos ha llevado, desde sus luchas en el KWANGYA , el plano donde se lleva a cabo toda la acción (aenergy, savage, i’ll make you cry). A llevarnos de regreso al mundo real donde las miembros no son más que jóvenes llenas de energía (yeppi yeppi e iconic) y finalmente caer en un plano onírico donde podemos soñar sin preocupaciones (lucid dream). A pesar de sentir que se fueron a lo seguro con algunas canciones, realmente fue un primer álbum muy sólido y consistente con una calidad indiscutible
My way of describing the Savage album is as an adventure to which the aespa members have taken us, from their struggles in the KWANGYA, the plane where all the action takes place (aenergy, savage, i'll make you cry). To taking us back to the real world where the members are nothing but young people full of energy (yeppi yeppi and iconic) and finally falling into a dreamlike plane where we can dream without worries (lucid dream). Despite feeling like they played it safe with some songs, it really was a very solid and consistent first album with an indisputable quality.

En general escuchar las canciones fue una experiencia muy agradable y me hace preguntar si aespa en un futuro ira por un ritmo definido o seguirán los pasos de sus grupos hermanos, Red Velvet, y F(x) al tener canciones más variadas con cada nuevo lanzamiento, al ser fan del grupo realmente estaré al pendiente de su evolución no solo artística sino también musical y me siento emociona por lo que traerán en el futuro. Overall listening to the songs was a very pleasant experience and makes me wonder if aespa in the future will go for a defined rhythm or will they follow in the footsteps of their sister groups, Red Velvet, and F(x) by having more varied songs with each new release, being a fan of the group I will really keep an eye on their evolution not only artistically but also musically and I am excited for what they will bring in the future.
