"Fear not, my dear youngling." - the Grand Elder said to a small kid that was crying by his side.
"If the clan stays together, we will regrow the tree. Hope is not dead yet, neither is our people..."

In biological terms, it IS possible to grow trees from branches! I didn't knew about it until recently; but you have to cut them in a specific way to avoid "killing" the branch!
