Grandfather

The sun was hidden behind dark gray clouds, and the shinning waves were crashing against the shore. It was a beautiful day and a perfect opportunity for visiting the World War II bunkers located on the beach; the place became a historical touristic spot a few years ago, after the local community got tired of the abandoned buildings.

Lots of families were visiting the place, walking around and taking pictures of the old weaponry and listening to the tour guides. But Antione had a different, deeper connection to this place.

As he walked, Antione saw it: the bunker where his grandfather died during the war. He walked closer and closer until he was standing right in front of it. He felt a strange sense of sadness and curiosity as he blankly stared at the bunker.

Antione stepped inside the bunker, feeling a chill run down his spine. He was overwhelmed with emotion as he looked around the room. He could imagine the soldiers huddling together during the war, scared and exhausted. He could almost hear the sound of gunfire, and feel the fear of his grandpa who had once been here.

He walked to the back of the bunker and saw a plaque on the wall. On it was inscribed the names of the soldiers who had died here, including his grandfather. Antione felt a wave of emotion wash over him as he read the names. He couldn't help but feel thankful to the sacrifices he had made.

Antione spent a few moments in silence, honoring all of those who had died here. He was thankful for the opportunity to visit this place so important to his own history. As he left the bunker and continued his walk along the beach, he felt a newfound appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who came before him, doing everything they could to protect their families and their legacy: he wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for them.

I truly hope all these men (and women) fighting, and dying for their countries will not be forgotten. If it comes to war there are no winners.
Today what they fought for seems no longer important.

Thank you for your entry. 👍
