A gift to collect

Hello everyone. I want to share with you an experience that deeply moved me a few days ago. I went to visit my grandfather, who has always been aware of my passion for collecting coins and banknotes from around the world. As an incredibly generous gesture, he decided to gift me something that I now consider a very special treasure: two Cuban 5-cent coins, yes, 5 cents! One from 1946 and the other from 1943. What makes them even more fascinating is the message they carry on their obverse side: "Patria y Libertad" (Homeland and Liberty).

Before the Cuban Revolution, the phrase "Patria y Libertad" was a common slogan on the island, symbolizing the struggle for independence and the freedom of the Cuban people. However, with the arrival of the Revolution, the phrase was modified to "Patria o Muerte" (Homeland or Death). This latter expression became the official motto of the government and marked a significant change in Cuba's history and politics.

But the story doesn't end there. Recently, with the protest movements and demands for freedom that have arisen in Cuba, a new slogan has emerged: "Patria y Vida" (Homeland and Life). This phrase represents hope and the desire for a better future for the Cuban people and has gained popularity in the fight for freedom and human rights on the island. The fact that these coins display the original phrase, "Patria y Libertad," is a beautiful reminder of Cuba's history and evolution over the years.

But that's not all. My grandfather also gave me a third coin, this time from 1942, also a 5-cent coin, but this one is of American origin. Unlike the Cuban coins, this one is in need of a little restoration as it is somewhat worn. However, that doesn't diminish its value at all. In fact, the wear and imperfections on an old coin can tell their own story and add character to the piece.

These three coins are now part of my growing collection, and to me, they are much more than mere collectible items. They are fragments of history, witnesses to crucial moments in the lives of Cuba and the United States. Each of them tells a unique and touching story.

Collecting coins and banknotes is a hobby I have cultivated over the years, and each piece I add has special meaning. I collect not only for their monetary value but for the history and symbolism they represent. Each coin is like a window to the past, an opportunity to learn about cultures, historical events, and in this case, the evolution of ideas and values in Cuba.

I deeply appreciate my grandfather for this gift that means so much to me. He not only gave me old coins but also a deeper connection to our family history and the events that have shaped Cuba and the world. The passion for collecting has provided me with a special bond with my grandfather and a unique way to explore history and culture.

I hope that these coins serve as a reminder that words and ideals may change over time, but the pursuit of freedom and hope will always persist in the human heart. I am a fan of collecting these types of pieces; I do it not just for their economic value, but as a passion. I look forward to adding new pieces to my collection, each with its own story and significance to me.

That's right, for me it is something special, even if it is not of great economic value, for me it is. I hope your children inherit the passion for collecting that you have. It is always a pleasure to talk with you. Best regards.

Those are great coins! The connection to your grandfather makes them all the more special. Decent Cuban coins can be expensive these days. I've always wanted to visit there, but back when I lived in the Caribbean US citizens couldn't travel there, my Russian friends did though!

That's right, now the situation has worsened here. You have to stay in a hotel and any country will do. Right now there is no fuel, you turn it off and the transportation problem makes it very complicated. Cuba is nice to get to know it and visit part of the country or a specific place. I would recommend it, although communism has ended with the country. I lived a few years ago in Cancun with the intention of jumping to the U.S.A., and its beaches are not half of the Cuban beaches. To enjoy it is the best. A big hug

Yes, I am fortunate to still have my grandparents. A very talkative grandfather who gives me his experiences and advice. How fortunate I am, that is my greatest treasure.

You really have some jewels for your collection. I also have a collection of coins from various parts of the world, as well as cards from major league baseball players.
They are a treasure for me!

What a peculiar gift. With extra value, because it was a gift from your grandfather. I hope your coin collection continues to grow. Happy Sunday.
