A day visit to Hamel's Alley
Hello, friends. Today I want to tell you about my recent trip to Havana, where I had the pleasure of seeing a truly unique and striking place: Hamel's Alley. This is one of the places you definitely can't miss if you visit the Cuban capital. Let me share my experience with you.
Hamel's Alley is a place in the middle of the bustling city of Havana, just a few blocks from the Malecon. It is an artistic project carried out by the talented Cuban artist Salvador Gonzalez Escalona. This place is famous for its street art, murals, sculptures and other artistic expressions that decorate it, making it an open-air museum. Where you can appreciate artistic manifestations; Afro-Cuban creativity and culture make their presence felt.
One of the things that impressed me was the painting on the walls, a reflection of Afro-Cuban culture and religion. The walls are decorated with symbols and figures related to Santeria and other religious traditions of African origin that played a fundamental role in the formation of Cuban culture. The place is a tribute to these beliefs and a way of keeping alive this important part of Cuban history.
In addition to the impressive artwork, Callejón de Hamel is also known for its Afro-Cuban music and dance. On Sundays, live music and Afro-Cuban dance performances are held. Unfortunately, I was not able to be present on a Sunday, as I was only in town Monday through Thursday, but I'm sure it must be an amazing experience. So I hope to have a little more luck another time.
This is a place that makes you feel alive and takes you into the rich culture of Cuba. It is also a meeting point for tourists and locals alike. I had the opportunity to chat with some of the local residents and learn more about their history and their connection to this special place; it was thanks to them that I learned about the place and the activities that take place here. It also has some small private businesses and a bar which I did not inquire much about.
If you want to know more about Cuban culture and religion, be sure to include a visit to Hamel's Alley in your itinerary. Here culture, art and music merge into an unforgettable experience. You won't regret it.
