THE BEST TIME TO START IS NOW
Its really amazing how time flies, everything just happens so fast. It's really important that we put aside our fears, quit procrastinating and begin whatever thing we wish to do, whether we wish to learn an instrument, join a choir etc because we would be losing out( wasting time) and we may regret it later if we don't take advantage of the time now.
Some events that happened yesterday made me to really understand this saying that "the best time to start is yesterday and the next best time is now" . Yesterday, as I was taking a walk in the neighborhood, I heard the sound of music coming out from one of the churches where I used to play drums back then in the past. The sound was beautiful and the instrumentalists were really amazing. I particularly liked the drummer, he was really skillfull. He was playing a song I liked so much so it held my attention.
Although his beats weren't exactly the same as what was played in the original song, I admired how he improvised and flowed with the rythm. I tried to take my mind off the beautiful sounds and focus on my evening walk but I couldn't.
The sound was too beautiful and irresistible but it was quite unusual.
It the neighborhood, I have come to know almost all the instrumentalists and musicians, and I can tell them apart by just listening to the sounds they produced with their voice or instruments. The sound I heard that day was unusually beautiful. It was more complex and sophisticated that I was used to hearing in the neighborhood. I was curious, I had to stop by to find out what was happening and also find out the people playing the instruments
I got into the arena and met I some young teenagers rehearsing. I was made to understand that they would be having a programme the next day so they were practicing for it.
I curiously peeped at the band/instrumentalists stand and I was surprised to find out that the people playing were young teenagers that I know so well.
I was quite amazed, I didn't know when or how they had gotten so good with the instruments.
I knew them when they were very much younger, I even know when they began learning how to play musical instruments and it's just a few years back.
I was really amazed by how they learnt so fast and how they can now play so well. I remember years back how this drummer would always sit close to me and stare in amazement whenever I played the drums. He was very very much fascinated and would always tell me about how much he loves drums.
He always told me about how he was eager to learn how to play drums and how he couldn't just wait to play like a pro.
Back then he had an issue, he was worried that it may take so many years before he would learn and even many more years before he could play like a pro. Those thoughts always discouraged him from starting a drum lesson.
I always encouraged him to just start. I would tell him that no time was too late to learn a new skill and that if he was consistent and diligent, he would be a pro in a short while. Although we hardly saw each other afterwards, I think he took my advice and started learning immediately because that's just the most rational reason for his current form
I am really happy and still surprised that he is now a pro after just a short while. He is now so good but still very humble, he even asked that I mount the drums and teach him a few things. I mounted the drums and also enjoyed the groove with them. I really can't say no to good music
I have learnt quite a lot of lessons from the life of these young teenagers. Indeed the best time to start anything is now and truly no time is too late to learn a new skill. If we quit procrastinating, if we put aside our fears, if we are hardworking, committed and consistent, in a short while we will definitely achieve our goals and dreams.
