In this piece, I moved away from the traditionally virtuous image of Supergirl to explore her more sinister side. The first bold decision was to give her long, tousled hair in a vibrant pink color, held back with a pair of green hair clips. I wanted her look to reflect an unleashed rebelliousness and a touch of flamboyance that would break away from her usual appearance.
The iconic blue suit with the iconic 'S' symbol on the chest remains, but with a twist: the fabric appears darker, almost as if evil itself has permeated the uniform. The billowing red cape adds dynamism to the scene, suggesting that this Supergirl is always on the move, always on the lookout for her next caper.
The background was crucial to capture the sinister atmosphere I wanted to convey. I opted for a dramatic purple sky, shot through with electric lightning. This apocalyptic setting not only highlights the dark nature of the character, but also adds a striking visual contrast to his costume and hair. Each lightning bolt and shadow was carefully placed to emphasize his menacing presence.
Working on this piece was an exciting journey. It started with a sketch that quickly took shape and attitude. Outlining brought to life the intricate details of his costume and facial expression, while coloring allowed me to play with hues and shadows to accentuate his malice. Finally, the highlights and glow gave the final push to capture the essence of this badass Supergirl.

Now, as the dreaded "Dark Supergirl," she uses her powers to impose her will on Earth. With her wild pink hair, her appearance reflects her chaotic nature. Her blue suit with the 'S' emblem and billowing red cape are the last vestiges of her former heroic identity. Under a stormy purple sky, Dark Supergirl reigns with an iron fist, defying any hero who dares to stand against her. Her goal is to dominate the world and eradicate any form of resistance, becoming the absolute ruler of a planet plunged into darkness.
En un universo alternativo, Kara Zor-El, conocida como Supergirl, fue corrompida por una energía oscura que alteró su moralidad y la llevó por un camino de maldad. Ahora, como la temida “Supergirl Oscura”, utiliza sus poderes para imponer su voluntad sobre la Tierra. Con su cabello rosa salvaje, su apariencia refleja su naturaleza caótica. Process / Proceso
The process of creating this digital drawing was a journey full of creativity and technique, starting with a sketch that laid the foundation for everything. When I started, I opened my favorite illustration software and, with my graphic tablet in hand, I began to draw the first lines of the character. This initial sketch is always a crucial stage, as it defines the proportions and pose. I wanted Supergirl to have a defiant stance, so I made sure to capture that attitude from the start.
With the sketch completed, I moved on to the outlining phase. This is where the outlines become precise and you start to see the details. I used a fine brush to carefully trace over the sketch, outlining every strand of her tousled pink hair and every crease in her outfit. This step required patience and precision, as the details of the outlining are critical to the final look of the illustration.
The next step was coloring, one of my favorite parts of the process. I decided to keep Supergirl's costume in her iconic blue, but with a darker hue to reflect her evil nature. For the hair, I used a vibrant pink to contrast with the dark background I had in mind. Adding base colors to each section of the drawing was a painstaking but rewarding process as it began to bring the illustration to life.
Once the base colors were applied, it was time to add shadows and highlights. This is the step where the drawing really comes to life and becomes three-dimensional. I used a palette of darker colors to create deep shadows in the areas where the light would not reach, such as under his cape and in the folds of his suit. I also added shadows on his face and hair to accentuate his evil expression. The shimmers, on the other hand, were applied to the parts where the light would naturally reflect, such as on the edges of her costume and on some strands of her hair. These small touches of light helped to give a more realistic and dramatic effect to the character.
The background was the last piece of the puzzle. I wanted a dramatic purple sky with lightning to enhance the sinister atmosphere. I used texture brushes to create the clouds and lightning, making sure they complemented and did not distract from the main character.
This process, although laborious, was incredibly satisfying. Each stage, from sketching to the final touches of shadows and glows, contributed to creating a unique, dark version of Supergirl that I hope everyone enjoys.
El proceso de creación de este dibujo digital fue un viaje lleno de creatividad y técnica, comenzando con un boceto que estableció la base de todo. Al iniciar, abrí mi software de ilustración favorito y, con mi tableta gráfica en mano, empecé a trazar las primeras líneas del personaje. Este boceto inicial es siempre una etapa crucial, ya que define las proporciones y la pose. Quería que Supergirl tuviera una postura desafiante, así que me aseguré de capturar esa actitud desde el principio.
Con el boceto completado, pasé a la fase de delineado. Aquí es donde los contornos se vuelven precisos y se empiezan a ver los detalles. Utilicé un pincel fino para trazar cuidadosamente sobre el boceto, delineando cada mechón de su cabello rosa despeinado y cada pliegue de su traje. Esta etapa requiere paciencia y precisión, ya que los detalles del delineado son fundamentales para el aspecto final de la ilustración.
El siguiente paso fue el coloreado, una de mis partes favoritas del proceso. Decidí mantener el traje de Supergirl en su icónico azul, pero con un matiz más oscuro para reflejar su naturaleza malvada. Para el cabello, utilicé un rosa vibrante que contrastara con el fondo oscuro que tenía en mente. Añadir colores base a cada sección del dibujo fue un proceso meticuloso pero gratificante, ya que empezó a dar vida a la ilustración.
Una vez aplicados los colores base, llegó el momento de añadir sombras y brillos. Este es el paso donde el dibujo realmente cobra vida y se vuelve tridimensional. Utilicé una paleta de colores más oscuros para crear sombras profundas en las áreas donde la luz no alcanzaría, como debajo de su capa y en los pliegues de su traje. También añadí sombras en su rostro y cabello para acentuar su expresión malvada. Los brillos, por otro lado, se aplicaron en las partes donde la luz se reflejaría naturalmente, como en los bordes de su traje y en algunos mechones de su cabello. Estos pequeños toques de luz ayudaron a dar un efecto más realista y dramático al personaje.
El fondo fue la última pieza del rompecabezas. Quería un cielo dramático de color púrpura con rayos que realzaran la atmósfera siniestra. Utilicé pinceles de textura para crear las nubes y los rayos, asegurándome de que complementaran y no distrajeran del personaje principal.
Este proceso, aunque laborioso, fue increíblemente satisfactorio. Cada etapa, desde el boceto hasta los toques finales de sombras y brillos, contribuyó a crear una versión única y oscura de Supergirl que espero que todos disfruten.
