Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

By the time you read this, I will have moved on to a new life, but hopefully, what I'm about to share with you, will help guide you into the future.

Listen to that inner voice, there will be times when you make the wrong decisions which will bring many regrets. I believe we are here on earth to learn lessons, some will be tough, but once you've dealt with it, move on.

Please do not dwell on yesterday's mistakes as they cannot be undone, and carrying them inside will only weigh you down!

At times like that, never make self-destructive statements like:

If only I had...
I should have...

A very dear and wise old man, who was my first boss, once said, 'It's ok to make a mistake, but if you make the same mistake twice, you are a fool!'

So, my advice is, do not be a fool as my dear old boss said, and learn from your mistakes. I indeed have been a fool for being too impulsive at times, but I remembered those words.

Another bit of advice from his lips was to stop and think twice before drawing acting. (I was a learner draftswoman at the time). Especially when it will be life-changing with no turning back.

In the same breath, I want to encourage you not to be afraid to follow your dreams.

Use your God-given talents, every bit of it, to make your world, and that of others, a better place.

Do not chase money, rather follow your passion. The money will follow, and you will be a happier person as you're doing something you enjoy.

I only set up our little BnB some six months before retirement, something I regret not doing when I was younger, but perhaps that is how it was meant to be, and I did fulfill that dream, which kept me sane when your grandfather/great-grandfather, left this world to move on to another realm.

Yes, I will meet you all one day when you pass through the thin veil between this life and the afterlife, a subject you may hear of more in your time, as more and more scientists are researching what is known as NDE's.

Do not be despondent and give up on your dreams if things don't work out, there will be thorns along the way, but if it's something you are passionate about, keep on at it. The phrase ' nothing ventured, nothing gained' is so very true.

Listen to your inner voice, do not ignore it, but rather act on it. I've bumped my head a couple of times by not listening, much to my regret.

Always remember that your thoughts have power, so keep on dreaming the impossible dream.

Be kind to the people you cross paths with, and be kind to yourself at the same time.

Learn to laugh at yourself, and don't take life too seriously, laughter for sure is the very best medicine!

You cannot avoid those bullies you meet throughout life; it may even be a so-called 'friend', but they are to be pitied as they're very insecure people and are envious of you. Do not let them walk all over you, rather stay clear of them altogether!

When it comes to disagreements with family or special people in your life, do not leave on a bad footing as you never know what can happen. You will always live with regrets if something happens to that person. Talk things over, and rather agree to disagree.

Never sweep troubling issues under the carpet. You know what would happen if you do that with dirt, it only piles up and becomes a big eyesore!

Something my Ouma told me on the night of my wedding, was never to go to sleep without 'making up' after a tiff with my husband.

Seasons will come and go, embrace each one, and when they come to an end, know that there will be a new season filled with new experiences, so learn to let go.

The best gifts in life need not be store-bought. The gifts I still cherish, are those that were handcrafted. A restaurant voucher, or tickets to a live show, also make for everlasting memories.

Your grandpa/great-grandpa and I invested in holiday club points with a reputable company. We started off small, and slowly bought extra points. That small investment enabled us to gift vacations to the special people in our lives, and when we went away, invite close friends or family along.
I trust those points are still in the family so that you also can experience wonderful 'together' times at their awesome destinations.

Cherish all special memories, and above all, live each day as if it's your last.

Reading through some of the blogs for this week's Memoir Monday Week 3, I see it led many Hivers to look back at their origins. I am fascinated with genealogy and started building a family tree.

How sad that memories of our origins are lost. Those photos of the young woman and young boy at the beginning of my post, are nameless ancestors. The photos came from an album belonging to my late Oumagrootjie (Great Grandma).
