The New 'Man' in my Life
I have a charming little man who has become totally smitten with me the feeling is mutual, by the way and follows me wherever I go!
He's under my feet all the time; if I turn, so does he! I've had a couple of near-misses stumbling over him.
Of course, you know that I'm talking about my adopted PURRfect furry grandson, Poe, a real charmer who does not behave like a cat most of the time.
Yes, he can be aloof when it suits him, but he's often just like a little puppy dog, following me wherever I go, a very affectionate, but also very laidback young 'man'.
Poe joins me when I meet and greet new guests, and comes to say goodbye to them as well!
He is very curious, and highly intelligent, outwitted hubby and me one night when we sneaked out the kitchen door to go down to the BNB cottage. Guess who was waiting at the cottage door when we got there, Sir Poe, of course! He knew exactly where we were going, and escaped through the living room door!
We all know the phrase
Curiosity kills the cat!
Poe's curiosity however has won many a guest over despite me warning them not to let him bother them, nor allow him in their units.
He loves getting a back rub, and falls on his side waiting for me to stroke him with my foot; an old gal cannot bend down that far, and this Lizzie gal is always on the run! A big stretch after his backrub, showing off his furry white tummy, and rubbing his head in pure delight against the paving or the carpet.
There's no rest for the wicked, so even though I try and tiptoe to the loo in the dead of the night, he'll come from 'his bedroom' and greet me as I walk down the passage.
It's not easy giving backrubs when you're half asleep and quite unsteady on your feet, so he gets the cold shoulder at those times.
He's a very determined young man though, and takes no offense to my rejection, so keeps on trying to win me over.
I'll let him sleep by my feet, but once he gets restless and stands up arching his back in a stretching motion during the night, I give him the marching orders.
Poe still forgives me and comes into the bedroom in the morning for an early morning snooze.
I am sure he has ESP as he seems to know when I'm feeling down. He'll look me in the eyes, and start talking to me in a meowing dialect as if to say - don't you worry, I will not leave you!
I never thought I would be a cat person, yet this charming little man has completely won me over.
Life, unpredictably, as always, throws curveballs, and I was knocked over with a massive blow this year!
Poe does not like sitting on anyone's lap, but he must have felt something was not right with hubby's health, as he went through a phase of jumping onto his lap just two months before that awful day. He came and sat on my lap during that period one night, looked at me with big eyes, as if to tell me something, or maybe asking permission, I cannot tell! It was just so out of character.
At least now, in moments of feeling alone and lost, my furry grandson is always there to comfort me.

My felines have been a lifeline. And it was really hard losing Rambo, too.
I am so glad you have Poe.
I honestly never would have imagined that Poe would be my beloved companion, although it's sometimes a love/hate relationship when he throws a tantrum. He really is such a character.
I now understand what a blow it must have been losing Rambo so soon after Tom.
I'm not enjoying this time of the year, last year's Christmas was like a long-lost memory!
I am working hard on not thinking about the festive season. I am grateful for work and markets that keep me busy. Last year, this was unimaginable.
Durban is now being dubbed as Dirtbin in the Ecoliweni Municipality, beaches are closed, so everyone is facing cancellations. I had 2, one
supposedlybecause of a death in the family (sorry if I'm doubting this) but I could at least claim from insurance for that. The claim settlement was reduced by:excess, plus commission I would have had to pay, PLUS 2% 'savings' - the savings I made in cleaning the unit!!!
So that's the kind of stuff that's been keeping me busy.
Thankfully we have wedding guests here for 2 weeks, I'm invited, and not in the mood, and an expat from the UK for just over a week, but she leaves tomorrow, and the studio unit is empty till the 27th! She's still young and lost her husband 3 years ago.
Both these sets of guests are returning guests, so that's nice, but also sad as the one guest used to have long chats with Arthur.
My biggest loss is the same as you're having to deal with, and as you say:
I've had some very bad days, but bought ingredients for Christmas mince pies yesterday, so will be making my filling today, the kitchen always cheers me up!
Take care Fiona, and know we're in this together, you're constantly in my thoughts xxx
They sense when we are not doing well and always say that they are trying to protect us when they feel something is not right.
Poe is a handsome boy 😻
How do you do it? Here, Milo does not understand about marching orders. 😂
Haha Eli, he quickly takes offense so when I scold him, he goes and sulks in 'his' bedroom, he really is a funny cat!
Hubby grew up with cats, but used to say that Poe is not a cat, he really is more like a puppy ;)
He's been behaving in that he's not gifting me with dead birds anymore (for now at least!), but the poor geckoes are now easy prey! He came to me one morning with a lot of 'cat-talk' so I followed him and he proudly sat down next to his 'find', a mole! I praised him for that though, as they kill many plants, still not nice to see.
They definitely sense when we're not doing well!
Oh gosh, a mole lol! I don't know what I would do if Milo showed me something like that, haha around here the most he manages to catch is a lizard and fortunately, so far the little birds that sometimes enter the balcony have been saved.
I'm so happy you have Poe. I know my animals (one dog, two cats) gave me comfort that kept me living after my son died. This is a beautiful post.
But he greets and takes leave of your guests?!! That's very strange for a cat. Mine have always chosen to disappear when someone comes to the door. You have quite a cat there!!!
He is a real nosey parker. My son and his girlfriend got him from the SPCA when he was a little kitten. All the other kittens were huddled in a corner, but Poe boldly walked up to them, so they always said that he chose them, not the other way around.
He's settled in nicely here with his 'grandma', really is a comfort when I'm having a bad day.
I'm glad that you have pets to keep you going, I still shudder at the thought of losing a child. I think that's any mother's biggest fear💞
Well he's hella handsome and Poe is a great name, so looks like you found yourself a keeper, lady 🤍
Yes, he's named after the Star Wars character after all ;)
What a handsome you fella he is lizzie. I think it's amazing how animals have such instincts, my "grand" dogs just love me too, always following me around and tripping me up. 😃
Great pix of your husband, love that Poe knew his love was needed.
Enjoy you day!
That is so true my friend.
I miss him toooo much, but Poe really knows when I'm having a bad day, and will cuddle up against me or lie by/ on my feet when I'm working on the computer. He's been a blessing.
I hope you're having better days xxx
Poe is the little Angel that came to you at the right time, to give you that little bit of re-assurance that everything is going to be ok.
Angels come in different forms and sizes my friend, I believe animals know more than humans sometimes spiritually.
Poe has come into your life to give you strength during this sad and terrible loss that you feel, he's giving you he's unconditional love, forgiving you when he seems to irritate you.
Embrace the little Angel, he WILL never leave you my friend, he's love is unconditional.
Love you my dearest friend, stay strong.
Thank you for sharing this heart warming story of the new man in your life.
"Poe" the "little Angel" in the form of a Cat.
He really is a little angel disguised as a cat, full of mischief at times though, but seems he's stopped terrorizing the birds. The poor geckos are his new prey!
Thank you my friend, it's time we got together and go on a jaunt again xxx
He looks gorgeous Lizelle - so glad you have Poe -From the website Cathelpful I read it has been shown that having a cat lowers blood pressure and relieves stress.
I can quite believe that, he looks so at peace when he's sleeping, which he does a lot, and definitely has a calming effect.
Nice seeing you @pandamama xxx
Enjoy the "New Man" in your life - and may Poe bring you many more hours of happiness
He's a real charmer, gets quite upset when I go out, follows me everywhere when I get back home!
Ah Lizelle that is so cute. So glad you have him to keep you company
cats are very sweet my one makes me relax ❤️ everytime i see her and comfort me when she feels am not okay😃
They are very intuitive, glad you also have a cat to comfort you!
yes❤️
Oh, he is so adorable 🥹 he reminds me of my doggy friend who follows me everywhere to get a back rub.
He's a handsome little dude, sure he'd have been a real lady's man and always on the prowl if he wasn't neutered.
Enjoy your little doggie😉
