Streamlining Silverbloggers' Mother

avatar
(Edited)

Starting a Hive Community as a Silver-Haired Babe meant I was bound to make a couple of boobs along the way (not that kind guys!) I meant to say...a couple of blunders!

So...being impulsive and always up to a challenge, I blindly followed through on the tongue-in-cheek suggestion by @riverflows, and started the Silver Bloggers Community.
I was truly lost in the wilderness until I turned to two very special wise souls for guidance, and am forever thankful to Sassy LUT and Sterling Silver for getting me off the starting blocks.

My friend Sterling Silver in turn suggested I headhunt the super-talented Silver Flower, and I was tickled pink when she accepted the position of Admin. Needless to say, Fiona has decidedly proven to be irreplaceable, and I hope she will take over the reins when I start fading away, as the silver-blond has all but disappeared and become silver-grey!

Many of our veteran Silver Bloggers already know much of what I said in the intro, BUT...I now need to tell you all about the big blunder I made at the outset.

Big Blunder by dizzy me

When stumbling along in the wilderness and as people subscribed, I pressed the 'follow' button from mother, as we call our community account, @hive-106316.

Wrong move!, and you'll understand why, if you read on.

Why the Unfollow?

If you were one of the approx 40 Silvers that received a notification from Gina this morning that mother has unfollowed you, you're not alone, and you have not done anything wrong!
Pssst, news just in, Gina was last seen on 10 October, has gone MIA, but you have other sources of information not so?

Back to the Unfollow - Nothing has changed as you will still get our full support with upvotes and reblogging, plus our delegators will still receive autovotes on their posts.

The Ultimate Goal

stream 20211111_124757.jpg

Our goal with this change is to streamline mother's page and keep it relevant to Silver Bloggers and other important announcements, therefore we are still following accounts like @hivebuzz and @ocd. People come and go all the time and our feed will become clogged with irrelevant posts.

I hope this clarifies that keeping the accounts that mother follows to a minimum, is for the benefit of you, our Silver Bloggers.
No need to think you've done something wrong and will have to go and stand in the corner as we did back in my days at school - anyone remembers that?

Please remember:

If you have followed our community account mother, you will not miss any Silver Bloggers contests, prompts etc.

Silver Bloggers Guide to the Hive-iverse

We look forward to seeing more of you join mother, and if you have any questions, pop over and have a peep at THE MENU - A Silver Bloggers Guide To The Hive-iverse. This extraordinary in-depth guide has been produced by our very own Silver Fish.

I didn't get a notification saying I'd been unfollowed, but thanks for the information.

I only learned afterwards that Ginabot was down. I had to clean up mother's house so to speak to benefit all of our community, thank you for being a part of our family @kaazoom.

Knowing the team that runs this wonderful community, I know that the decisions they make have good reasons behind them. Thank you for informing and reassuring those of us who may be affected. Hugs! 🤗

None of those "mother" links work for me. I didn't receive the notification though.

I don't understand what you mean about @hive-106316 links not working for you?
If you're not seeing those posts, you must have missed it if your feed is full, so you'll need to scroll down in your feed to find it among the posts of others that you follow, and then reblog it so it stays visible in your blog.
Yes I learned after writing this post that Ginabot has been out of action since last week's hardfork so no one would have been notified, but at least those who check their peakd notifications now know the thinking behind the unfollow.
Have a good week @owasco 🤗

I would never see the posts from the community, not even reblogs, even though I would scroll and scroll down my feed looking especially for those. I have to go to the community to see them. If I follow the community, mother and all, should those not show up in my feed?

The reblogs are showing up in my feed now though at least. That should help me support the community better.

Hi Owasco,
It sounds like you're only following @hive-106316 and not the members themselves. Posts only show up in your feed if you follow the person. If you follow Mother (@hive-10631) you will only see posts published by mother, or any posts reblogged by mother.
Mother (@hive-106316) has to manually reblog posts, something we're focusing on now, but we often only reblog posts when they're a couple of hours old as we all have day jobs.
To see posts from mother (for #bom, prompts and updates etc.) go to @hive-106316 - click cancel if it asks if you want to open the community page - once there, click on 'All posts.'
Hoping this solves the probem @owasco, have a great Monday further.

I did follow the instructions to follow the mother account, but I hadn't been seeing the mother posts or the reblogs until yesterday. I think the problem has somehow been solved. Thanks for your help!

A very wise move to give more visibility to the relevant things we should reblog. And I wouldn't say you made a mistake at the beginning, everything evolves, and the SB community has evolved and has grown and hopefully will keep growing.

Thank you @coquicoin, our growth is thanks to you & the rest of our team. It was high time I cleaned up mother's house to make space for all of us 😉

The dreaded Unfollow 🤣
To be fair it was only natural that you did it. I am doing the same thing on my account, as I too did follow many people and made feed messy so to speak.
Fantastic that you have given people an explanation though!

Morning Ed, hope you had a good weekend, I had to do this as it was from the community account, a couple were still active SBC bloggers, one sent me a DM so I realized it would give the wrong impression. We will manually reblog sbc posts in mother.
Have a great week😊

I totally understand the need to periodically "clean up" a little bit... it's part of the whole Admin gig, which I have been part of (still am, in distant places) more times than I care to think about.

You all do a wonderful job with this community!

I believe it will benefit the community to clean up our feed, and I must thank you also for being such a loyal Silver Blogger with your uplifting posts @denmarkguy 😊
