Blue Moon!!!
Running a BnB is full of ups and downs, as well as many surprises; some good, others not so good!
Our fabulous regular guests from Belgium, an ex-pat, her Italian husband and gorgeous son, who speaks 3 languages at the age of 10, arrived in a miserable cloudy South Africa! The main reason they always come is to see her family, something she's not been able to do ever since Covid. They however also wanted to see the sun and go home with a nice suntan especially after leaving a snowy Belgium!
The suntans did not happen!
As all my Hive friends know, we've been experiencing the worst weather ever with the sub-tropical depression cyclone ISSA causing absolute mayhem, with property damage and loss of many lives; enough to make anyone depressed!
However, they have left and have many stories to tell of their visit to a not-so-sunny South Africa!
On departure, they had a surprise for us, a very good Spanish wine and the most divine nutty choccies.
I canceled all the long weekend bookings as we were without water on Thursday, expecting it to be extended, but it miraculously came back the next day and has been on since then; unlike most other areas in and around Durban! The roads were also treacherous with many bridges collapsing and mudslides closing roads as well.
I received a strange request from a pastor who had booked a colleague with us before.
He was desperately looking for a swimming pool to do a baptism, and could we please do him a favour; they would only be here for half an hour, no more.
A family of four arrived on the morning of the baptism, and then more and more people arrived; likely about 20 in the end!
It was cold and drizzling when they were baptized in the pool and as some were also without water at home, we offered them a hot shower to warm up. Some took up the offer, but they were all gone in less than an hour!
A baptism in our pool was a first for us!
Tonight, on a Monday...a week after the devastating mudslides that happened to our neighbours, hubby had to go and fetch a guest from the bus station, supposedly to arrive by 21:30.
Because of the road conditions, the bus was diverted and my hubby is now sitting waiting, likely or hopefully should be home by midnight!
If not by midnight, hopefully sooner than sunrise!
I seem to be saying this more often of late; is it time us Silvers pack up and move to that little cottage? I'll certainly have more time to blog, read more fabulous posts and comment on those here on Hive!
Our dream has been to be close to the sea, but hearing that these subtropical cyclones are going to become more regular due to climate change, our hearts are now pulling more inland!
We however will stay put for now, as we do enjoy seeing life and meeting many interesting people!
This is day 18 of my attempt at #Hiveblopomo, an initiative of the awesome bizzy Queen Bee @traciyork, encouraging all Hivers to write a blog a day for the month of April. So far, so good, hope I reach Day 30!

Surely it must have been at least a curious thing to have an almost lightning baptism in your pool. ;)
I hope that everything gets better soon and things return to normal. And I hope that your husband has returned with the guest early and without mishap. 🤗😊
Unfortunately, more and more storms have been hitting us worldwide, I know the Philippines have been absolutely hammered with cyclone after cyclone after cyclone.
The baptism request was novel, and something to add to the BnB features!
Am so glad that you are okay.
