All Souped-up!

Falling off planet Hive and being prodded and poked by masked strangers in white gowns is not my ideal pastime, but it was part of the process to 'fix' a little malfunction, something our bodies tend to do at times, especially when reaching bigger milestones with more years than we'd like to admit 'under the belt' on planet earth!

Yep, no escaping bodily parts showing wear and tear and needing fixing or replacement as age creeps up on one, something I'm sure many of our #silverbloggers can attest to.

This time around was very different from my previous visit to the same hospital when it felt like I'd stepped into a dystopian world where two lost souls were treated extremely unkindly, a fact I brought to the attention of management.

I now found myself among fellow patients who were real angels, and caring nursing staff! What a difference that made!

I was warned that the procedure was going to be painful, but still was not prepared for it!

No sitting at my PC, yep, I'm writing from my cellphone before I doze off again! My laptop gave up the ghost so will also need some overhauling.

The recliner, TV series, magazines, pain meds, and sleep now are my daily companions.
I cannot even concentrate on reading a book!

Getting in and out of bed without using my tummy muscles, is a skill I still have to master in order to avoid excruciating pain.

I swing between log rolls and a simple technique for getting-in-&-out-of-bed post-abdominal surgery.!

The good doctor surgeon should have ordered at least one physio consult while in hospital, which would have saved much agony! Had I done proper research, I would have requested/insisted on it, but trusted the experts to know better!

Yes, those rose-tinted glasses became clouded again, but my ward 'neighbours' thankfully brought back the rosy tints. We were all on the same page, physically and spiritually, which was a great morale booster

Nevertheless, I'm glad to be back home after a longer-than-expected stay due to a minor complication which involved the intermittent escaping of bodily fluid that would have made some grown men pass out 😉.
Fortunately it stopped with good nursing techniques, no surgical intervention required.

How healthy was hospital food?

On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate it as a 4!

Not the kind of food one would expect when recuperating in hospital, in fact if you want to know how reflux/GERD feels, book yourself into that hospital and you'll soon know all about it! There admittedly are non-spicy options, still not healthy choices though!
I ate hardly anything except cereal and veggies and was totally flummoxed that there was no fruit on the menu at all!
This is a private hospital, by the way!

Once back at home, my son came to the rescue again, and ordered a load of nourishing soups online.
I'll be all 'souped-up' in more ways than one!

Soft foods, fresh vegetables and fruit, high-fibre breakfast, no red meat, limited fish or chicken, and no starches, is my recommended diet.

Don't want any blockages in the system at all; this old gal and pain ain't no pals, so she'll follow instructions to the T!

It's not even 10am and I already am nodding off while tapping my cellphone screen!

Hoping to pop in more often once I'm out of my cocoon, all souped-up and sitting in my office chair again!

Oh dear Lizzie, that didn't sound like a pleasant experience at all, but if it solves the problems it's worth the temporary discomfort. I wish you a speedy recovery, take care!!

Thank you so very much Pauline, it's good to be back in the land of Hive! The hernia mesh procedure is a little more complex and very painful, but way more successful. I was just very alarmed when the keyhole started bleeding in the middle of the night, and took a while to settle. Thankfully I woke up!
At least I'll be able to get back to normal activities once it's healed.
I hope you're having a great Friday 🤗

Those numbers add up around us, sneaking up like a thief in the night, body strength flails more noticeably yet we still don't take note.

Yikes another experience to manage, thank goodness for a son available on hand to assist, chin up and smile..., then learn to take it easier on the body parts we take for granted to still rev like the younger version!

Yep Joan, I have to learn to ask for help especially with moving heavy stuff, I'm way too impatient!
My son is so considerate, ordered from Woolies, all the way from the Netherlands, my younger son checks in every morning and night, is planning a business trip down here, artywink also brought me some dinner for tonight, so I think I need to count my blessings more often!
Thank you Joan!

Our sons know us as we know them, it is special, many times one doesn't need to ask they simply step up to assist.

One thing I do miss are my friends most have passed on or moved away, time for change soon I think.

Take care of yourself we tend to think young, try do younger then body rebels!

Yep, I've stopped saying age is but a number. So many friends our age are having health issues or have passed on!
Yes, we really are blessed with good sons!

I am sorry you are having such a tough time with the pain. I went through that with a hysterectomy and I thought that was brutal. Thank goodness for your children helping. Stay strong and careful so you have a quick recovery.

Thank you so much for the good wishes @sunscape, it means a lot to me! Yes I also went through a hysterectomy in my late 30s, that was very painful! I had a bad reaction to morphine so am restricted with pain killers, nothing with codeine, also allergic to all anti inflammatories, it's a real 'pain'😉

Well, you pulled through it all, and now for the healing to begin. I call it the re-possession of our bodily parts as we grow older !LOL
Rest is needed and we are glad that your sons support you so well.

I'm so very sorry you are going through this, but as you say, it is one of the costs of growing older. I'm thinking of writing a blog about the need for reform in quality of patient care. I remember reading Florence Nightingale (her actual writings). She would be mortified if she saw how patients are treated in today's hospitals.

Good, nourishing food. Light airy rooms. Quiet, most of all, quiet. These were basic hospital reforms she recommended in her time. Also, sanitation. The emphasis on sanitation was paramount. This was a true despite the fact that she resisted accepting germ theory.

I'm glad you survived and that your wonderful son is providing you with all the aspects of care Florence would recommend.

Stay well ;)

Dear Lizzie, that doesn't sound like any fun but if it was necessary, that's all there is to it. Please take care of yourself. I wish you a speedy recovery. Sending you lots of healing vibes. Hugs 😘

Thank you Eli, unfortunately it had to be done, and each day is a little better. At least I'm forced to rest so have been binge-watching TV series. Definitely on the mend 🙏🏻
