A feast for the eyes - Bonsai, Orchids & Sculptures
While in Johannesburg last week, the kids took us on a walk through a large, unique and stunning nursery - Sawasdee Bonsai & Orchids, filled with many exotic plants and full of surprises, as we ended up at Lorian's Cheeses that is housed inside the grounds of the nursery. I found the very best sourdough bread here as well, so was very chuffed as I only expected plants!
Bonsai
I will start with the bonsai, some really ancient specimens.
Succulents
A beautiful hanging succulent looking like strings of beads.
The very pretty heartshaped Hoya
Orchids
As Johannesburg has a very dry climate, they've created a humid atmosphere with netting above and water spraying in places; we did not mind getting a bit of the fine spray as it was quite a hot day. There were some really stunning orchids here, and I will show you a couple; it was a real feast for the eyes!
Metal Sculptures
We saw some large and small animal sculptures made with metal - giraffes, lions, buffalo, antelope, elephant, crocodile and many more.
These were taken through a fence, so obscures the sculptures somewhat.
Human forms and small creatures
My cell phone died as we got to Lorian's Cheeses and everyone was so busy tasting and buying that I forgot to get one of them to take photos, but the cheeses were divine as was the sourdough bread that I bought here.
All in all, a lovely walk through a very special place!

Absolutely beautiful pictures Lizelle and I can't believe all of the bonsai trees! I think that's the most I've seen in one place. I hope you are well! We have another couple of weeks in the Southwest and then we're hitting the road again for Minnesota. We sure have enjoyed our time here.

thats quite a nice place - very interesting indeed !
What a nice walk through a nursery, Lizzie. I've always loved looking at plants in nurseries and this one looks large and gorgeous.
I hope you enjoyed the time with your kids ;) 😊🤗
All pictures look really nice
It is indeed a feast for the eyes.
Beautiful! I just love things that are green!
We have a lot of those metal sculptures here in Table View being sold along the road as well. Always a massive giraffe to stick up and stand out as though to signal their location!
I enjoyed seeing the pictures and I like the shape of the hearts. I love colors
You made me remember my bonsai, I planted them myself and took care of them for a long time, but they are like a baby and need constant care. It is very beautiful that garden, there is so much to see and recreate.
Hi @lizelle, hope you are well.
What an excellent place to visit, those heart-shaped Hoyas were so pretty, as were all the flowers of course. But those sculptures were just awesome, life size, impressive.
We hit a place down in Florida that had such an inventory of outdoor artwork, it blew our minds.
I am so happy you are taking time to just enjoy life a little more, that bread and cheese must have been delish.
Always nice seeing your posts, but I must apologize for not keeping up as much as I would like, but things have been hectic since coming home, just so much to do, but all good, I have been catching up with some family and friends.
Have a blessed and beautiful day my friend.
